Mordaunt's sacking, given that she is a staunch Brexiteer, is seen as something of a surprise. A small part of me is wondering if/hoping her unequivocal declaration that transwomen are women and links with Stonewall somehow contributed to her downfall.

As has been said upthread, Cummings is too astute not to notice that this position is a vote-loser. Removing her gives the party a perfect opportunity to do a U-turn on self-ID.

GCAcademic · 27/07/2019 10:02

Another interpretation at the time was that she did not want to say ‘My predecessor did all this and as she is the Prime Minister there wasn’t a lot I could do about it.’

Yes, she was made to take the hit for May’s vile policies.

nettie434 · 27/07/2019 09:54

As Home Secretary, her defence re the Windrush scandal was that she hadn't read the memos, so I fully expect her to let civil servants dictate her stance on self-id.

I agree with Alwaystawnyowl that the size of her majority will be what’s most on her mind.

Great to hear that Gilligan has BoJo's ear.

TimeLady · 27/07/2019 09:35

From Guido:

Victoria Atkins remains as a PUSS at the Home Office, and as Minister for Women.

She seems fairly GC:

LizzieSiddal · 27/07/2019 09:27

I had the same thought Pop. We need you Andrew, please find time to carry on your very important work.

Popchyk · 27/07/2019 09:05

Hope that Gilligan still has time to cover the trans cult though.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/07/2019 07:48

Ooooh fab news!

LizzieSiddal · 27/07/2019 00:00

Bloody brilliant!

Come on Andrew, let BJ know
the full facts of what’s going on at the moment.

GirlDownUnder · 26/07/2019 23:44

Oh maybe we can have some actually useful webchats now - that'd be lovely.

RubyViolet · 26/07/2019 23:36

Andrew Gilligan this is your moment to use your influence.

MrsSnippyPants · 26/07/2019 23:34

I’m in bed but doing a little happy dance Grin? It all helps.

The very same, Lizzie. He and BJ go way back - BJ hired him on the Spectator years ago.

It must be possible to mobilise women voters, and their concerned male relatives and friends, in Hastings and Rye to focus Amber Rudd's mind on this. Local FB groups, for instance.

ThePurported · 26/07/2019 13:43

Good point, Always.
I don't know whether Rudd is GC or not, and it's irrelevant anyway because she is not a conviction politician. She is driven by her own political survival (and that of her party).
As Home Secretary, her defence re the Windrush scandal was that she hadn't read the memos, so I fully expect her to let civil servants dictate her stance on self-id.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 26/07/2019 13:15

Amber Rudd is sitting on a majority of 346. She will be very vulnerable in any general election to even a small number of women switching sides over this.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2019 11:24

Regarding his sister though, I do think she's GC. She's written a few pieces around the issue:

www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-4121112/RACHEL-JOHNSON-told-class-call-Richard-Did-trans-kid.html

WhereAreWeNow · 25/07/2019 16:28

My gut feeling is that Rudd is GC - perhaps not in public but in private. I hope I'm right.

I guarantee Boris couldn't give a flying f*ck about trans rights or women's rights. I imagine he's critical of trans people in a boorish, bigoted kind of way rather than being thoughtfully critical of gender ideology IYSWIM. I suspect Carrie Symons is GC from what people have said upthread. I also suspect people like Andrew Gilligan have Boris's ear.

Overall, I think Boris is a disaster for the country and is no friend of feminists but I also think it he will extinguish the GRA reform project.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 25/07/2019 16:23

Stonewall is already asking everyone to contact their MP in support of GRA reform so we need to get our voices heard. They also have a website fill in form to make it easier.

Needmoresleep · 25/07/2019 16:09

Timing is interesting though. Mordaunt confirms legislation is going through, despite knowing Boris had the leadership in the bag. Was she naively hoping this was reason to keep her on, or was she signalling her ally status.

Then Pink News report that it has been kicked into the long grass before Rudd is appointed. And then Rudd emphasises "women and girls". My guess is that the party has decided this one goes on the back burner. It is tge advice editors of the Times, Spectator and Mail will have given if they were not able to work it out for themselves.

LangCleg · 25/07/2019 15:45

Every new face pitches up not knowing anything about the GRA and its proposed reform, listens gravely to the Stonewall civil servants telling their tales of suicide and erasure of transfolx, and the Minister then goes forth to repeat what the GEO staff have instructed her to say.

I agree.

LoveGrowsWhere · 25/07/2019 15:22

Quick off the mark there ReSisters! Nice one.
