From Heather B-E:

"Britain's experiment with puberty blockers is set to be exposed tonight on Newsnight BBC 2 at 10.30 pm. Michael Biggs chapter in our latest book broke the story! t.co/FV5FLye1oX"

This should be interesting....

BBC making some progress but with delivery strangely reminiscent of Philomena Cunk.

OMG. That was exactly it.

littlbrowndog · 22/07/2019 23:14

Cripes.

Despite sad music and faces. I think message was clear

Wtaf are GIDS up to. And nhs research panel

And why were theyallowed to drop the age of kids getting these untested drugs

Who was pressuring for this to happen and who made the descion that this would happen

HumberElla · 22/07/2019 23:14

Well that was a very different tone of delivery. Framed as a highly disturbing and serious issue.

Nothing new, all information we’ve been pointing at for eons, but ... Newsnight.

Erythronium · 22/07/2019 23:14

The park bench and the abandoned scooter in an empty attic was like an episode of Brass Eye.

TinselAngel · 22/07/2019 23:14

newtlover · 22/07/2019 23:14

it's a start

LangCleg · 22/07/2019 23:13

I suppose with the BBC it was always going to be baby steps.

By the BBC's standards, that was a hard hitting piece on this issue.

It's just embarrassing how far behind the curve they are.

endofthelinefinally · 22/07/2019 23:13

There was a lot of superficial waffle in that. IMO.
A lot of factual, scientific information was deliberately left out.

EweSurname · 22/07/2019 23:13

I think this is a huge step - the bbc are calling for higher standards of healthcare and research. It’s a massive sea change on this topic

CassianAndor · 22/07/2019 23:12

So no further discussion. I can’t help but feel that the production of that film did the subject no favours whatsoever.

RedToothBrush · 22/07/2019 23:12

i really question how children can give informed consent

They can't.

That's the point.

HumberElla · 22/07/2019 23:11

Subject demands open and honest debate

EweSurname · 22/07/2019 23:11

Health research authority, sorry

CassianAndor · 22/07/2019 23:11

Yes, she was.

I’m finding this women’s delivery deeply irritating.

So far, nothing she has said is news to me. And why have they not clearly stated that PBs followed by cross sex hormones causes sterility?

newtlover · 22/07/2019 23:11

i really question how children can give informed consent, the teenaer they showed more or less admitted no teenager will ever take any notice of risks of adverse outcomes
(see also, smoking, drugs, motorbikes etc)

BigotedWoman · 22/07/2019 23:11

I suppose with the BBC it was always going to be baby steps.

EweSurname · 22/07/2019 23:10

BBC sharing concerns with health research agency!

HumberElla · 22/07/2019 23:10

HRA threatened investigation and then did nothing

Meanwhile gids lowered the age limit

RedToothBrush · 22/07/2019 23:09

Susan Bewley was the one who took Dr Harrop to pieces on twitter with Margaret McCartney the other day wasn't she?

Erythronium · 22/07/2019 23:09

The production values for this piece are ridiculous. The message is that it's not important and isn't to be taken seriously.

EweSurname · 22/07/2019 23:09

These observations should have given gids pause

HumberElla · 22/07/2019 23:08

Susan Bewley now stressing need for good medical practice

newtlover · 22/07/2019 23:08

increased self report of self harm when on puberty blockers-
but poor research design

LangCleg · 22/07/2019 23:07

They've gone with the Vic Derbyshire Special Wistful Music vibe, I see.

Harps. About a potential medical scandal, FFS.

Polly Carmichael - question about why non stop (once on this path), is it we are not prescribing for enough people? Or are we putting them (on a track)

Really Polly? Hmm
