Misandry is a real word

This debate has always interested me. I read a very convincing article about ten years ago, written by a man, explaining why misandry isn't a real word. He listed the etymology and history of the word and so on. He was also an excellent writer and I admire good writing. I can't find the article. I will look again for it.

In searching for it, I came across a men's rights activism forum where they're discussing a thread by the title of "Misandry is a Real Word"

news.mensactivism.org/articles/02/01/02/1631228.shtml

Personally I'm with the writer of the article, but the men's rights activism forum make a convincing argument

Yes, those are absolutely valid reasons for not wanting a male HCP.

Lots of men use porn and we hear of male HCPs doing much, much worse to women. It's always said on here that we can't spot the predators and medical authorities are useless at weeding them out, so why take the risk?

Aaarrgghhh · 23/07/2019 02:40

Oh good lord. I think you need to step away from mumsnet and just have a lie down or something.

sakura184 · 22/07/2019 12:42

I also think I mentioned that doctor who cut off over a hundred women's breasts even though they didn't have cancer because he just wanted to. Maybe it was his fetish or something. Anyway, I said what if my doctor gave me unnecessary medical procedures because that was his "thing"

I said I didn't want men to assist me at birth for lots of reasons. Because I'm suspicious of their reasons for entering the profession, after the NSPCC guy was found tweeting that the best part about his job at Ann summers was that he got to make women feel uncomfortable. The best bit, he said.
I said I'd heard that brothels offered pregnant women, sometimes for gangbangs, and what if my obstetrician was doing that in his private time. Or watching medical porn.

So mean aren't I

Many of your posts are in the same vein.

Best eradicate that dastardly misandry on mumsnet

LassOfFyvie

top twisting things Sakura. You said far more than merely expressing an opinion that you only wanted to have female attendants. And no- one said you shouldn't.

Yes I expressed why I wanted only women. Went into a lot of detail about that because my preference for women was scrutinized. Is it normal to scrutinize a woman's preference for women for intimate medical procedures and birth?

I had to them explain why I don't want men. I said they might be pornsick, just to give one example.

So was that being mean to men?

You must have missed my update, just underneath it said it was meant to read misandry.

You're the one who started a thread about misogyny and if it's a real thing/word.

Did I?

Another train wreck thread Confused

RosesAndRaindrops · 22/07/2019 11:37

thread about misandry that should read!

RosesAndRaindrops · 22/07/2019 11:36

&If you don't understand the meaning of the hatred in the word misogyny then do I have to start bringing examples onto this thread, of the things misogynists do to women?*

You're the one who started a thread about misogyny and if it's a real thing/word.
Lass gave you some examples, including a lot of your own posts, and now you seem to be getting snotty about it? Confused

RosesAndRaindrops · 22/07/2019 11:30

Many of your posts are in the same vein.

Agree completely Lass.

How very dare you LassOfFyvie say that a woman who only wants females around her in birth, is a female equivalent to a misogynist

You are STILL lying and twisting, I see.
I was on that thread too and not a one, not a single one said you were over-reacting for wanting females around you, even though you cannot see that (or deliberately don't want to, who knows)

Did you hell as just say about females round you anyway, there was a heck of a lot more on to it than that.

I don't usually bring up past threads but seeing as you're still lying and twisting what that thread said on this one, I'm mentioning it.

LassOfFyvie · 22/07/2019 01:45

Stop twisting things Sakura. You said far more than merely expressing an opinion that you only wanted to have female attendants. And no- one said you shouldn't.

I will not be replying to anything else on this thread. You might like to bear in mind however that the blogger you spoke so approvingly of on your ante- natalist thread is so extreme and so irrational she is a gift to MRAs. Many of your posts are in the same vein.

I'm hiding this thread now as it's a waste of time.

Are we really going to have to go there?

Roughly every 16 hours in the USA a woman is shot and killed by her current or former male partner.

An example of misogyny

So online meanies basically LassOfFyvie

God don't talk to me about the rape threats. I had a blog and the rape threats were endless, literally incessant. Because they were coupled with doxx threats this was very frightening to me and I only managed to write for as long as I did because I was living in east Asia and I knew the American, Australian and British men who were baying for my blood couldn't get hold of my details and doxx me.
The blog is closed now that I am back in the UK

Examples of misandry ? A deleted thread saying fathers simply masturbate into a vagina- that gives them no right to have any involvement with the resulting children. Not the first time I've seen that line. It's rare and extreme but it occasionally gets said.

Quite a lot of OP's posts in the birth thread were in my view misandrist.

The blogger the OP linked to and admired in the ante- natalist thread. Her blogs were full of it.

I don't think the fact that women stating misandrist views are unlikely to have power means misandry at an individual level is not real.

sakura184 · 22/07/2019 00:45

Haha thanks for your contribution ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving . Obviously I agree with all you say.

Yes for sure misandry is synonymous with feminism.

OP posts:
ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 22/07/2019 00:34

But then both him and SIL are the poster children for "TWAW!", "Feminism is about EQUALITY therefore stop what you're doing and start campaigning for men's issues", and "If we want men to get on board with feminism we need to make it attractive to them". They're liberal feminism personified. Think SIL might die on the spot if I said men can't be feminists.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 22/07/2019 00:31

My BIL loves to talk about misandry. His definition of misandry does seems to be synonymous with feminism, or at least feminist class analysis. When I said that most violent crime is committed by men, and that women still do the majority of household labour, he said I was a misandrist. He also thinks that false rape claims are really common, that there's a genuine risk this has lead to many innocent man being falsely convicted, that women should have to sign "consent contracts" before sex to prevent this, and that there are loads of fathers out there being denied access to their children because family court unfairly favours women. It seems to be:

Women pointing out patterns of male behaviour = misandry

Women getting rape threats online for pointing out said patterns =/= misogyny, this is just people being mean to people and not at all gendered because women are also mean to men (or something)

In conclusion, my BIL is an MRA misogynist, my SIL should GTFO, and misandry - although technically a real word - is about as tone deaf as "straight pride", "reverse racism", and "international men's day".

sakura184 · 22/07/2019 00:21

I presume he was trying to shame me and to him being a lesbian was so shameful that being called, or should I say, being accused of it would snap me out of my feminism

OP posts:
sakura184 · 22/07/2019 00:18

What's your definition of man-hater? RosesAndRaindrops

Hairy lesbian?

That's what my brother called me once when I espoused some feminist viewpoint. It came totally out of the blue. I was like erm why is he talking about sexuality, how random.

OP posts:
RosesAndRaindrops · 22/07/2019 00:13

So a misandrist basically means a woman who is a big meanie online

Erm, no.
Hmm
Biscuit

sakura184 · 22/07/2019 00:05

You can add hairy for extra flair. Hairy man hater
