Woke up and, not being able to get back to sleep, picked up my phone.

I haven't read them all, of course, but from what I can tell the 3000 responses to their tweet so far not surprisingly don't seem to be in support of their view.

I don't really do twitter so don't know what happened here, PN appears to have posted the same tweet a second time: mobile.twitter.com/PinkNews/status/1152144812906340353

Yep, and they are being dragged just as hard this time too. This lot are so far into own little TERFblocked world, they forget there are the rest of humanity going WTF? at this sort of thing.

Michelleoftheresistance · 19/07/2019 11:20

Many lesbian, bi and gay people no longer use the acronym 'lgbt(whatever)' and avoid anything with that label on it, because it has come to mean a specific political position. The position is 'queering' or 'queered' whatever - society, culture, education, which basically means any boundaries, any norms, any taboos, should be smashed. Safeguarding in particular is a norm and a boundary. Women as a concept is a norm and a boundary. This is where the pseudo intellectual drivel about 'childhood is a social construct' and 'sex is a social construct' is coming from. It makes people engage in discussion to defend it which by doing so validates that it is up for discussion and chips away at it.

It's got this far because it's largely of no interest to the average person in the street so far. But think of the howling mobs outside the courts when certain paedophiles have been on trial, and what they would have done to anyone they got hold of. And then think about what happens, demonstrated in history, when people no longer trust the law to provide justice and do it themselves.

If this group, who should have been put back in their box at the start, push this to breaking point (and they will, restraint and impulse control aren't characteristics of the leading lights of this movement) it will get very ugly.

Desmond is Amazing and the drag children wouldn't be a thing if they weren't being publicized and exploited, first and foremost, by their straight parents. It baffles me as to why the gay scene is enabling this child exploitation- they should be vocally condemning this and refusing to have underage performers in their clubs. It is a safeguarding NIGHTMARE.

Juells · 19/07/2019 10:29

Xiaoxiong
So much homophobia in the comments sad this is what I have been so worried about, that all the prejudice against gay people - gay men in particular - is going to come roaring back as a result.

There is increasing resentment towards gay men as they haven't defended women - not only not defended, but piled on with the TWAW because men's inner feelings are more important than lesbians' rights to be same-sex attracted and women's rights to privacy. I think there will be a backlash as homophobes take the opportunity to hide behind righteous virtue-signalling, just as misogynists have used TWAW as a way to put women in their place. All that's needed is an excuse, and Stonewall is providing that excuse.

ZebrasAreBras · 19/07/2019 10:10

But scarily, an LGBT Facebook retweeted the image with 10 on it with the caption ‘absolutely- love is love’. It shows how dangerous it is to just blindly accept it.

Potl - yes, that was how I was made aware of it - not from the hoax, but from the fact that an LGBT group actually used it!

But think where "Acceptance without Exception" actually takes us, as a society. It's not good - there are men out there wanting to sexually exploit children, lower the age of consent, and just as they jumped on the civil rights bandwagon in the 70s, they are back and jumping on the LGBTQ+++ bandwagon.

Incredible how history repeats itself, when lessons should have been learned.

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 19/07/2019 09:14

Pride needs to take some responsibility for the link being made between gay/fetish/paedophilia
Gay men should be distancing themselves from this and not, in some cases, using the movement to put the boot in on women. LOJ I'm looking at you

Lumene · 19/07/2019 09:14

The specific wording of the bill would outlaw any performance “that suggests a minor is participating or engaging in sexual activity, masturbation, or bestiality and that, taken as a whole by the average person applying contemporary community standards, appeals to prurient interest.

No mention of drag, just against sexualising children in any context.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 19/07/2019 09:00

If you, as a gay man, willing hook together homosexual orientation with open public fetishism and child abuse, there is no way you will prevent the backlash that will strike at every single homosexual.

Absolutely! High profile gay men have had absolutely no qualms in throwing women and children ubder the bus.

The pushback will take gay rights back, it will also take away some women's rights too. Sad

We are under the bus from both sides. Better make ourselves comfortable there!!

TheRedBarrows · 19/07/2019 08:58

What would Stonewall say?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 19/07/2019 08:53

Oh, that's disappointing.

I was hoping "pink news fail" was something to do with them going out of business.... Wink

FloralBunting · 19/07/2019 08:50

I've been saying it until I'm blue in the face. If you, as a gay man, willing hook together homosexual orientation with open public fetishism and child abuse, there is no way you will prevent the backlash that will strike at every single homosexual.

I'm not saying it because I'm looking forward to that backlash. I'm saying it to try and wake up your foolish arse before a mob comes with torches and pitchforks for everyone who thinks that homosexuality is natural and acceptable.

FormerMediocreMale · 19/07/2019 08:47

*sexualisation

FormerMediocreMale · 19/07/2019 08:46

Glad they are getting ratio'd, I'm in full support of stopping this blatant specialisation of children for adult fetish.

When pride first started it was all about showing people that homosexuals were normal people who happened to live the same sex. It was about showing people they were not deviants. That was when it was LGB.

Now the alphabet soup is more about kinks and fetishes including trying to make paedophilia seem normal. It is the organisations that included the alphabet soup that have led to fetishes being linked to homosexuality so sadly stories like this will have homophobic comments and I think there will be a certain backlash.

The LGB needs separating from the murky soup IMO but as I'm straight it's not really down to me. I have seen the damage homophobia has done to friends of mine - that have been assaulted by gangs and I would hate to see a resurgence of this because of the inclusion of fetishists.

Bezalelle · 19/07/2019 08:42

More and more, I'm convinced that the TRA lobby is financed by anti-gay and anti-women movements.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/07/2019 08:21

I used to go to gay clubs when I was a teenager (had the best music and very few creepy guys hitting on you). It was music and dance yay. This was the 80s.

Now I world with a few gay guys - the scene is quite different these days. I’m sure there were, err ‘specialist interest/activities’ going on in some clubs back in the day, but the things they tell me (is not unheard of) from some of the clubs - I never heard or came across anything like these. It was the type of thing you’d think of as happening in some dodgy back alley in soho.

Campervan69 · 19/07/2019 08:11

I've heard a lot more people openly criticising gay men, saying how when men get with other men they egg each other on in their perversions to go further and further into fetish whereas men who are with women will generally have the brakes put on their experimentation into fetish by women who generally aren't as into extreme sex and drugs as men are.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/07/2019 08:09

Why does sex come into this? Human rights don’t usually include the right to dress up as a cartoon dog and have sex with a person dressed up as secret squirrel. I believe a human right is NOT to be sexually abused or raped but I could be wrong here...

CodenameVillanelle · 19/07/2019 08:04

The outrage against that NSPCC employee who had a rubber fetish was decried as homophobic, as if it's a necessary part of being gay to have fetishes.
Fetish is a particularly type of sexuality which includes gay, straight and bisexual people. Most people aren't fetishists and that includes most gay men too. Why the obfuscation? Who does it serve?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/07/2019 07:55

In ye olde days some people would have the horrible and just wrong belief that homosexual men were a danger to children.

Dressing up little boys as drag queens - the only ones I’ve seen have been highly sexualised in their performance and ‘on the scene’ (posing with butt naked adults, photos with dubious characters, money thrown at them in nightclubs, drugs references...). It’s not exactly dampening down the old perception is it?

A bunch of hetero men throwing money at a little girl in a nightclub dancing in a crop too and daisy dukes - how would that look?

Pota2 · 19/07/2019 07:49

Zebras i think the age thing was a hoax that someone did where they photoshopped the poster to say 36 and 10 even though the original one said 36 and 72 or something. But scarily, an LGBT Facebook retweeted the image with 10 on it with the caption ‘absolutely- love is love’. It shows how dangerous it is to just blindly accept it.

And I totally agree- being gay is not a fetish. The fact that some gay people have fetishes does not mean that fetishes must automatically be protected. Lots of straight people are into fetishes too and we don’t talk about dragging kids into that. Have seen some idiotic comments from people who seem to think that as soon as you mention LGBT, it automatically negates any potential harm to kids. Which is why they think an 11 year old podium dancer is great but probably wouldn’t think the same if it was an 11 year old girl in a strip club.

Gay or straight, the one thing that those who exploit people (male or female) for sexual gratification tend to have in common is that they are male. You’d never hear of a bunch of lesbians wanting to see a pre-pubescent girl dance in her underwear because sexual abuse by women is very rare and it certainly isn’t out in the open. So maybe the lesson to learn is that being gay doesn’t stop men from being men.

ZebrasAreBras · 19/07/2019 07:23

A reminder that homophobia exists, but objecting to kids being groomed and sexualised is not homophobia.

Also 'Love is Love" is really dubious. A campaign poster included that AGE should also be no barrier - and had a depiction of a 34 yr old with a 10 year old.

NotTerfNorCis · 19/07/2019 07:21

I can't imagine what PN thinks it's going to achieve by supporting the sexualisation of kids. It's like it thinks it has to defend any kind of sexual behaviour outside the mainstream.

QuentinWinters · 19/07/2019 07:16

I feel sorry for LGB people who will now be set back decades due to this idiotic insistence that we have to embrace absolutely everything that people have a sexual preference for.

Yes. It drives me crackers. Being gay is about who you love and want to share your life with. Humans are social animals and want to live in a pair bond.
Being gay is not about sex. It's not the same as a fetish. Its homophobic to imply it is Angry

SarahTancredi · 19/07/2019 07:09

Wow that really didnt go their way did it.

I feel awful for the gay bi and lesbian people who as many have said fought against being tied in with perverts and paedos. This crap is taking them right back there and its nor fair or right.
