This is second of three cases that have been grouped together and in which defendant is represented by @JCCFCanada lawyer.

There is background on first thread about the BC Human Rights Code and the Tribunal. JY has made 14-16 complaints about being denied waxing services. From info heard in last hearing, it appears that some have been settled in mediation.

Not rtft but has anyone mentioned training? For insurance purposes therapists shouldn’t practice outside their training. Differences in genital skin?
Also it might not be picked up by a lot of media if it’s clear person has serious mental health issues.

Maybe that's why they are talking about her religion? That's she's objecting on religious grounds, not because she isn't qualified. She can't say she isn't qualified if the qualification doesn't exist?

This is actually the way around it if the beautician thinks someone is with make genitalia identifying as a woman. Especially in Canada, where there's no training for cock and balls waxing but IS for vulva waxing.

OK, I genuinely had no idea who JY was but the very quickest of Google searches revealed all. JY is kidding themseld if they think the restrictions on reporting are actually going to conceal their identity.

Really I think anyone who provides home services should be able to refuse anyone, no questions asked. I have massages with a female therapist and she only accepts men if they are partners/friends of women she knows - obviously she loses clients but experience has shown her that the risk of assault is too big if she accepts anyone. Laws really need to take into account the reality of male violence. It is ridiculous that this person is saying that gender equality is not being respected- women are greatly disadvantaged in this scenario.

When I worked as a therapist I was in a small windowless room with my client. Of course I was watching them all the time but if I felt uneasy I’d leave the door open or say that I was having a trainee observe the session. I’d also say that I was recording the session for them.

This was pretty standard for the clinic - men and women - but the reasoning there was just in case they tried to attack you, or accuse you of something inappropriate. Not in case you literally tried to kill your client by calling someone by the wrong pronoun.

I've worked with a local network of holistic therapists doing massage, Reiki, ear candling, reflexology etc, and most are women with a therapy room at home. All take women clients via phone or email contact, but have a policy of men only if they are known to them or known to a friend or a long term women client. Several have been sexually harassed or assaulted in the past by male clients. All have said if they are no longer allowed to clearly establish if someone is in reality female and state their own boundaries, then they will simply stop advertising and will pick up clients only through friends and acquaintances and personal recommendations.

Basically go underground like the lesbian groups and women's support groups etc.

Cosmo, of course, has a piece where they asked 3 waxers if they've been asked to wax men and if it is different. They were, in true Cosmo style, totally cool and said that it was little different. And they talked the clients through how it was totally fine if they experienced a normal biological response and how they responded.

AB started out providing services from home - discusses risks involved.... AB discusses male wax clients. Must handle their genitals - shaft of penis,scrotum. Many men get erection - some embarrassed but substantial % ask for sex service
When refused, some may be embarrassed but some get angry. AB has been called bitch, slut, c@nt. AB works (or has worked ...at male only wax salon - says angry men very intimidating to staff at salon.

What about the women who threw money at them to go away? Shame they can't have any comeback. Or maybe offer their burly husbands to do the waxing for them.

Datun I agree. But (desperately looking for a silver lining) as I said upthread, if this case is looked at carefully and with all due process and then chucked out with a fuck off to the far side of fuck and then fuck off some more, it may help to re-establish sanity. And women’s rights.

And maybe JY will be prosecuted for his racism.

And I hope the women whom JY is vexatiously litigating have good support.

Did they ever get anyone to do the waxing? What would they have done if someone had said 'great come on it and get your frock off'?

There must be places where JY can get waxed, there is one place in Edinburgh that are happy to do those services for trans people, and that fine, they advertise as having those services.

But in JY’s world he’s not trans , he’s a woman.
