This short film with Mhairi reading out (mostly respectful) comments from women is really sad. I have always admired her but like many politicians she is unable to comprehend the issues women are raising. She says there is no evidence or legitimacy in our concerns. Oh well.

That was to @Chickenwing

DonkeyHohtay · 04/07/2019 21:29

But@Chickenwing that's the whole point - the new Scottish legislation there is no transition required. You just say you'd like to be recognised as a woman please and that's it.

Datun · 04/07/2019 21:28

If a man was a pervert or a danger there are much easier methods to access woman than going though a sex change.

Strewth, how much longer do we have to put up with this uninformed idiocy?

You don't have to do anything, fuck all, to say you are a woman.

I love her! Mumsnet is VERY trans phobic.

Someone is not going to go through the difficult transition of becoming a woman just so they can abuse other women in a toilet. If a man was a pervert or a danger there are much easier methods to access woman than going though a sex change. So why are these people been targeted as such a threat?

I find it insane that women are pretending to be genuinely scared that a transgender person is going to harm them in some way.

They want to use the female toilet because they are female!!! They were just born with the wrong genitals.

Sick of all this transphobia on every other post!!!! Be more open minded and understanding of other people.

BigotedWoman · 04/07/2019 21:05

Jared O’Mara is another example of a rubbish young MP.

LassOfFyvie · 04/07/2019 21:00

The reference to racism might be related to her response to tweets made when she was 14 being dug up.

Now dragging up tweets by a 14 year old probably isn't fair but Black's response was ,in a Holyrood article , to describe the people who did it as “plastic Irishmen”

www.theirishvoice.com/news/mhairi-blacks-reference-to-plastic-irishmen-is-totally-unacceptable-for-a-member-of-parliament/

Hugh Henry [former Labour MSP] was in the news saying that I was a bigot and that was the irony of it, all these plastic Irishmen tweeting me dug’s abuse and saying that I’m anti-Catholic and I’m like, ‘my mother’s got 13 brothers, my granny took me to Mass every day, have you seen the chains I wear?’ But there was no vehicle for me to say that, to fight back, and then there was a big bit of me thinking it’s none of your bloody business so why should I justify myself?

I don't know what a "plastic Irishman" is. The gist seems to be that "plastic Irish" have no business identifying as Irish if they are not actually in Ireland.

Have you seen the number of likes? Nearly 6k. It makes me feel like we're fighting a losing battle sad

I doubt they are all from the UK.

Have there been any challenges from other SNP MPs / MSPs?

SNP official twitter feed has even retweeted it.

WIngs is onto it mind.

Imnobody4 · 04/07/2019 19:36

Reminds me of Gordon Brown and 'bigotgate' -at least his contempt was inadvertently overheard not an in you face performance. She can't unsay this.

Cismyfatarse1 · 04/07/2019 19:26

She has 160 000 followers. I'm not on twitter so I don't know what 6k likes means in the context of her number of followers. Is 6k a lot or a bit poor given how many follow her?

Tootsweets23 · 04/07/2019 16:43

She has always been high on the bullshit scale. As others said, she's pushed this "I'm a working class chip shop worker who became an MP" but it is utterly disingenuous. She's from the posh bit of Paisley, her dad wasn't just a teacher he ran his own education business, and she worked in a chip shop while doing her politics degree at Glasgow university. Her achievements in becoming an MP at such a young age were impressive enough, she didn't need to bullshit her way through. That she did, combined with her terrible parliamentary record and constituency responding rate says all you need to know about Ms Black.

MockerstheFeManist · 04/07/2019 16:34

It is an immense task for a young MP who's never had a 'proper' job.
23 year old Charles Kennedy who was superb, until the drink got to him.
Contrary to the populist moans, the workload is immense, something any politics graduate ought to be aware of before standing.

OldCrone · 04/07/2019 16:33

I would consider being a mother and raising children as a legitimate role that would cover the requirement for previous proper jobs

I agree. If this was included under 'employment' then there wouldn't be an issue.

OldCrone · 04/07/2019 16:32

There are very very few women now who have never worked.

Yes, but you said a 'specified length' of work. The longer the specified time, the more likely it is that women with children would be affected. I think that a minimum age of somewhere between 25 and 30 would mean that people have sufficient maturity to cope with the job.

thisreallyhappened · 04/07/2019 16:30

What a shallow video, she didn't give any real evidence or rational or logical framework for her views. And some of her arguments just ridiculous - how can anyone seriously counter the argument that women don't want to be naked in front of men, by saying, you don't have a right to your own room, honey. It's absurd. it completely fails to understand women's experiences.

I think her summing up of 'be nice' said it all really. Misogyny summed up in two words: girls and women, remember the core duty is to 'be nice' - don't assert yourself or your boundaries or your views, ' be nice'.

DonkeyHohtay · 04/07/2019 16:27

I'm not surprised at all. She's the SNP darling, hotly tipped as the next big thing after Sturgeon. The SNP are mostly for my of the TWAW opinion. Mhairi just being a good little nationalist and toeing the party line.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 04/07/2019 16:23

This could have a disproportionate impact on women with children

I would consider being a mother and raising children as a legitimate role that would cover the requirement for previous proper jobs Smile

Aspley · 04/07/2019 16:16

@oldcrone
I don't see why it should.
There are very very few women now who have never worked. As I said I wouldn't put a criteria on the job - anything at all would be better than some of the idiots we are now getting.

OldCrone · 04/07/2019 16:12

100% there should be minimum qualifications for MPs and one should be a specified length of employment in a real job/business.

This could have a disproportionate impact on women with children, meaning that even fewer women go into politics. I agree about a minimum age of 25 or 30, though.

nauticant · 04/07/2019 15:45

Twitter isn't a good measure of the general population.

Twitter has a relaxed attitude to the promotion of paedophilia. Many of the people on there promoting their, often startling, interests are on the far fringes, be it Left, Right, or whatever.

Doobigetta · 04/07/2019 15:05

Tbh this just confirms m for me that she is too young and doesn’t have enough life experience to be a good MP. We all know everything at 21, you have to live a bit to learn that you aren’t the font of all wisdom. I know that’s not necessarily a popular view. Apart from with other old farts.

Manderleyagain · 04/07/2019 15:05

I just watched it. Nasty, and contemptuous of the electorate. But, lots of people will be googlin agp.

OvaHere · 04/07/2019 14:40

Twitter isn't a good measure of the general population. It appears to lean quite far left as a demographic which is bolstered by the company running it also leaning that way.

Also many people click like without actually watching and critiquing the content (which can apply to any political bubble).
