Adding to the chorus of "you are amazing, Sharron!". Because you are. Thank you for doing this.

Interesting that so many of the comments are essentially advocating for a third space. We know that won't appease the TRAs though...

jhuizinga · 06/07/2019 17:10

I have so much admiration for Sharron's bravery and tenacity. Glad to see that there are now over 100 comments on the article and that they are overwhelmingly supportive of Sharron.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 06/07/2019 16:02

Sharron you’re wonderful.

BickerinBrattle · 06/07/2019 15:54

What a champion she is! So forthright and genuine, without any self- aggrandizement at all but making clear her discipline and resolve, and using plain speech about an issue even toddlers understand: fairness.

No wonder she drives the activists crazy. She is everything they are not.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/07/2019 15:50

Which raises the tantalising prospect that just to make sure he finds all references to himself, he now has google alerts set up for sanctimonious morph, talcum x and tiny ineffectual pseud

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/07/2019 15:47

I love the fact that she won't even say sanctimonious morph's name in that article

how's he gonna find it when he vanity googles himself?

GrimDamnFanjo · 06/07/2019 15:37

I am so cheered that Sharron has got the bit between her teeth and is refusing to let go!
I worried she might fade away but it looks like she's really took the campaign up now.

There's one comment at the bottom. With over 13,000 likes.

JazzyGG · 06/07/2019 13:49

@NotBadConsidering Dustin Lance Black - urgh. Even some of my gay friends who've been through surrogacy don't like him. Conceited prick.

NotBadConsidering · 06/07/2019 11:38

Dustin Lance Black getting shown up for the hypocrite he is down on this thread. Note that LOJ retweeted it and popped up to have a nasty little dig at Sharron again:

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 06/07/2019 11:20

That is a great article and the only comment that has been allowed on it so far has complete support for Sharon from over 10000 readers and very little dissent

boatyardblues · 06/07/2019 10:08

I agree. The inclusion of the IOC’s new testerone levels and the male/female reference ranges show very clearly that the top of the new IOC MTF trans qualification range is within the normal, healthy male testosterone range.

DuchessSybilVimes · 06/07/2019 10:03

That article is brilliant. Spells it out so clearly.

Aspley · 06/07/2019 08:36

That DM article is awful to read.
Speaking out for fairness should never come at such personal cost.

Though if anyone wants to see just how vile some trans activists are the replies to some of Sharron's threads are a perfect examples.

nettie434 · 06/07/2019 08:26

There’s an article about Sharron in the Daily Mail, 'I won't let trans militants drown me out:

www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-7218181/SHARRON-DAVIES-wont-let-trans-militants-drown-out.html

Written in the usual DM style but makes her commitment really apparent.

"Plymouth Olympic swimming legend Sharron Davies MBE says she is taking legal advice after Guardian columnist and socialist Owen Jones appeared to label her a 'transphobe"

andyoldlabour · 03/07/2019 13:46

"Little OJ does hate women so much."

Yes, I think he does, and that is why it is strange to see on his Wiki page, he describes himself as a "feminist"

twelvecolourfulbirds · 03/07/2019 10:07

It's perfectly clear what Sharron was saying. Anyone failing to understand is being deliberately obtuse and utterly disingenuous.

Owen Jones, self styled class warrior, always seems to forget that the main losers when women's rights are compromised are always the same people: the poorest women who don't have the financial, social and educational resources to try to protect themselves.

Carter Ruck Solicitors act for all the lovely people - like the Church of Scientology. Anyone ever watched Leah Remini's Scientology and the Aftermath series? The analogies one can draw between small but powerful and litigious "faith" groups and their infiltration of government through charitable status is quite startling, not to mention the group think and collective turning on anyone that betrays the agenda.

Aspley · 02/07/2019 20:40

They have to try to bring Sharron down.
She has a massive following and has spoken nothing but sense - sense and realism being the biggest enemy of a certain group just now.

Sharron, ignore the bullies and those trying to slander you.
You are right, you know it, we all know it. Sense will prevail.

Eaudear · 02/07/2019 20:36

Owen Jones's sole agenda on this is to weaponise the homophobia of the past and to twist any objection at all to the idea that men are actually women, to link it with homophobia. As a 'shut up bigot' move.

The reason he has to do this is because he knows that he doesn't actually have any decent arguments when faced with the concerns that women have. So he has to play the 'you sound like a homophobe' card as a way to try and silence concerns, as it's all he has got.

Plus of course the fact that women are largely irrelevant to him. It's impossible in his mind for women to actually have genuine concerns for their own rights, because to him their rights don't matter, so the only explanation for them saying these things must be homophobia/transphobia.

I can't get over how misogynistic it is actually.

Binglebong · 02/07/2019 20:24

Transwomen are women, but still have male chromosomes? But woman is an adult human female defined by chromosomes, in which case a transwomen is simultaneously an human female, and an adult human male.

Schrödinger's chromosome?

Erythronium · 02/07/2019 20:11

It's ridiculous to pretend that there is no context to Sharron Davies' remarks when she has been part of the public conversation on trans for the last few months. As usual trans are hiding behind actual oppressed minorities, in this case lesbian and gay people and disabled people. Anything to make straight white men the most oppressed minority of all.

Sex matters, that's literally what she said. It's true, it does. Not a single one of us would be here if it wasn't for the fact that men and women exist and their respective gametes are what produce a baby. More importantly, women matter - adult human females. Without a woman, none of us would ever have been born. Germaine Greer said that trans was an insult to their own mothers and she's absolutely right.

JackyHolyoake · 02/07/2019 19:40

Someone needs to remind Riley and Jones of the UK Equality Act 2010:

Section 12: the protected characteristic of sexual orientation:

(1) Sexual orientation means a person's sexual orientation towards—
(a) persons of the same sex,
(b) persons of the opposite sex, or
(c) persons of either sex.

(2) In relation to the protected characteristic of sexual orientation—
(a) a reference to a person who has a particular protected characteristic is a reference to a person who is of a particular sexual orientation;
(b) a reference to persons who share a protected characteristic is a reference to persons who are of the same sexual orientation.

www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/15/section/12

Plus Explanatory Notes [paras 55 - 57]:

Effect
55. This section defines the protected characteristic of sexual orientation as being a person’s sexual orientation towards:

people of the same sex as him or her (in other words the person is a gay man or a lesbian)

people of the opposite sex from him or her (the person is heterosexual)

people of both sexes (the person is bisexual).

  1. It also explains that references to people sharing a sexual orientation mean that they are of the same sexual orientation.

Background
57. The definition is designed to replicate the effect of similar provisions in the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003 and the Equality Act 2006.

Examples
A man who experiences sexual attraction towards both men and women is “bisexual” in terms of sexual orientation even if he has only had relationships with women.

A man and a woman who are both attracted only to people of the opposite sex from them share a sexual orientation.

A man who is attracted only to other men is a gay man. A woman who is attracted only to other women is a lesbian. So a gay man and a lesbian share a sexual orientation.

Someone needs to remind Riley that she is supposed to be there for the 'L'.
I very much doubt she would practice what she preaches on this issue (and for that matter neither would Jones).

Linda, homosexual females are bring excluded from "your" LGBT "community" right now - on your watch - please do something for us.
It cannot be right that lesbians are being critisised for our sexuality.

Sharron has spoken out more for the rights of lesbians than Linda has done.
Sharron - you are a star - thank you. Linda? yeah, best I don't comment.
