And yes, heartbreaking for the children.

Yeahnahyeah · 02/07/2019 14:13

I'm a bit blown away by the now 17 pages AIBU, and the fact that over 99% are against this.
I was under the impression the FWR was an outlier on this issue.
Which begs the question, how the hell have TRAs gained so much so quickly? Why are their voices so strident, why is this utter ideology being so meekly accepted in so many areas?
We are going to look back on this as a type of mass hysteria I think. I hope.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 02/07/2019 13:48

The tide is definitely changing and has been slowly for a while now.
I feel so sad for these children.

Michelleoftheresistance · 02/07/2019 13:31

I zoomed through that thread early this morning. Very heartened to see the ratio, massive majority are calm, kind posts saying they fully support this child to dress however they like, name themselves however they like, absolute acceptance to compete with the boys but no, they're a transgirl not a girl and they should not be in female categories for sport. And the attempt to liken it to Rosa Parks was very roundly called out.

I think not that long ago the ratio would have been quite different, it's very nice to see people not usual FWR posters who have no trouble seeing the issue and speaking up for girls. And the only argument really being put is that being trans is such a very hard life that the girls sort of owe their competition to the child as a sort of consolation prize.....which is thoroughly derogatory to every child in the situation!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 02/07/2019 13:18

Oops. I didn't see that post, but I'm assuming that "evil" means not admitting that men can be women....

NeverEverAnythingEver · 02/07/2019 13:17

It turned out that everyone is evil, if that's how you define evil...

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 02/07/2019 13:09

According to one poster on there, feminists are evil Hmm

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 02/07/2019 12:58

AIBU to think that this child should be allowed to compete as a girl? Transgender topic. http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3627152-AIBU-to-think-that-this-child-should-be-allowed-to-compete-as-a-girl-Transgender-topic

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/07/2019 12:55

Can't flippin find it and keep getting distracted by other aibu threads

OP posts:
NeverEverAnythingEver · 02/07/2019 12:16

Which is not something you say everyday ...

NeverEverAnythingEver · 02/07/2019 12:16

Yeahnahyeah My faith in the world has been slightly restored by that AIBU thread. Smile

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/07/2019 11:52

I think ‘Mx’ actually is pronounced ‘pretentious Bol-laux’. Probably French.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/07/2019 11:51

I walked past a fancy tea shop (sells boxes not cuppas) and even the sodding display on the window was stacks of boxes of tea - arranged in a bloody rainbow pattern.

I may need to wander in at lunchtime and knock it over...

KatvonHostileExtremist · 02/07/2019 10:38

Oh fekko I so agree.
Where were they all? You know, when it was shit and gay people couldn't even get married. When people didn't even dare sign up to the LGB club at uni. That wasn't that long ago.

It's a new secular festival. And capitalism is licking it's fat lips.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 02/07/2019 09:51

@LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD I fucking hate rainbow anything now unless it's in the sky as a result of natural phenomena. It gives me such rage. My DDs school has a large on flying outside the front of the building. One of the teachers is a Mx. I don't even know how to pronounce that and no idea if they are male or female. Pretentious bollocks. Get on with teaching instead of attention seeking.

Yeahnahyeah · 02/07/2019 09:24

*Does a happy dance

AIBU thread up to page 12 now and it's a resounding NO. Nup. Nadda. No.

FermatsTheorem · 02/07/2019 09:22

The women compete to different criteria - not in skating according to the Wikipedia entry - exactly the same list of marks, same number of jumps in the routines, same scoring criteria. Gymnastics is very different, singles skating not so.

Male ice skaters are not particularly masculine anyway. What on earth is that supposed to mean? They are very fit, very strong, very muscular, and (as numerous posters have pointed out) routinely land 3 or more quadruple jumps in a routine. Only 3 women skaters are capable of doing even one quadruple jump in their routines.

stucknoue · 02/07/2019 09:07

In skating it's not clear cut as the women compete to different criteria, gymnastics too, being larger framed (male) would potentially hinder you as jumps and strength isn't everything. Male ice skaters are not particularly masculine anyway.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/07/2019 09:06

I walk to work along oxford street. So many rainbows, balloons, flags. A bin van just went by - rainbow. My bank app - rainbow. My coffee cup - rainbow. Clothes shop - rainbow T-shirt’s and shorts on sale.

What is happening? Where were these fuckers when my sister was bullied for being gay and I was bullied for having a gay sister? Or when gay bars and clubs were targeted? Where the fuck were they?

Slap a bloody rainbow on it and make it Mardi Gras and every man, woman and CHILD wants to join the band.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/07/2019 08:56

1972 ‘hey Fekko - of course you can do things that ‘boys’ do - you’re just as good as they are!’

2019 - ‘Fekko is that a blue lolly you chose? Quick someone call the Tavistock!’

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/07/2019 07:22

Gender stereotypes harm both boys and girls.

OP posts:
NeurotrashWarrior · 02/07/2019 07:20

Oh not seen that. That is heartening.

Praps the bbc are being clever?

OP posts:
Yeahnahyeah · 02/07/2019 06:15

I am so feckin heartened that a 5-pager on this topic in AIBU has a resounding 100% opposition to the OP's assertion that the child should be able to play in the female team. Smile

Oblomov19 · 02/07/2019 06:13

I was saddened to see the other thread on this subject. In another section of MN.

MidniteScribbler · 02/07/2019 03:09

Surely a simple change of rules would be a much more sensible suggestion than expecting a male bodied person to compete as a woman.
