Just tried to find drEM and glosswitch. Neither account exists. Confused

You have made really valuable analyses for the discombobulated left.
Many thanks from Australia Flowers

Sparkyduchess · 01/07/2019 21:35

DrEm, so lovely to hear your voice here.

Your clarity has been eye opening for me many many times, and your concern for women so very evident always.

Please take care of yourself ❤️

R0wantrees · 01/07/2019 21:04

We must all question how we interact with gender (the system of oppression) – do we place male voices over women’s? Do we treat men and women differently in the name of kindness? Kindness to whom, because it is often not kindness to women and girls. I am of the opinion that if you do not centre women and girl’s rights or if you place male feelings above these, then you are actively working to damage and destroy what should be our shared goals.

This cannot be said better ^^

DrEm I've read and re-read your posts, your integrity & care for girls & women shines out. Flowers
Thank you & I do hope you have all you need for recovery.

KatnissEverbeen · 01/07/2019 19:34

Hi Dr Em! I love your work and commitment to women.
It does feel like the same shit all over again just worded slightly differently or said by someone else. The 2007 thread is eye-opening for what the true trans crew are doing now. They are gifting are rights away so they can boost their own profiles and feel nice.

Flipmation · 01/07/2019 18:46

Hi DrEm I'm on Twitter and was so sorry to see you had deactivated. I don't post very much but just wanted you to know I agree with you 100%. Women and girls first, always. This is the only kindness feminist women need to show. I hope to see you back if and when you feel ready and well.Smile

PencilsInSpace · 01/07/2019 18:09

Lovely to see you here DrEM, you are amazing Flowers

R0wantrees · 01/07/2019 17:19

I notice how interchangeable it is with other trans arguments and the appeal to 'kindness'. Kindness to whom, as it sure isn't women and girls. It is very self-indulgent.

Its such a manipulative post. Do they get a master response which they can just cut and paste into?

Patterned behaviour once recognised always stands out.

Manipulation definitely a theme in transactivism.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 01/07/2019 17:18

Yes! “I am asking, if out of politeness that you refer to me as a trans man. It's only words , and it won't harm you, but to not do so might harm me” from a professor of Law who knows full well the power of words. That jumped out at me too EM

ThatDoctorEM · 01/07/2019 17:09

I'm up to Stephen's words wont harm you, but they will harm me - it is batshit.

LangCleg · 01/07/2019 16:29

Wait until you get to the bit where the solution for guiding is to issue leaders with supplies of emergency contraception!

ThatDoctorEM · 01/07/2019 16:18

This person is an academic? Jeeze, their written communication is poor.

ThatDoctorEM · 01/07/2019 16:16

Thanks Lang this promises to be good.

LangCleg · 01/07/2019 16:11

DrEm - I really recommend you read the thread which Stephen Whittle initiated here. It's an er.... eye opener!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3212371-Where-are-all-the-trans-men-An-Answer

ThatDoctorEM · 01/07/2019 15:54

Thank you all.

I'm currently reading some MumsNet threads which are blowing my mind. The one about 2007 and the one about a Letter in the Times.

With 2007 I knew some stuff such as Whittle and WPATH but had no idea about everything else.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/07/2019 15:15

Thank you DrEm. You are a key voice in this debate. I'm glad you can see the support you have.

Please take the time you need. We'll be here (but not in the creepy 'still here' conference way) if and when you feel ready.

Amalfimamma · 01/07/2019 13:40

Em

I've told you numerous times that there is no need for thanks nor to explain. I'll stand up for my friends to the death and if I have a problem I'll come to you privately and we can hash it out.

The work you do for all of us, ie women and not feminists, is outstanding and you are a force to be reckoned with.

Big love ❤️

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/07/2019 13:23

Good to see you here, DrEm. I'm sorry you've had to deal with unpleasant nonsense. Rest up as long as you need, your health is important. Your recent Medium articles on Queer Theory were a revelation to me. I never studied any of this stuff and had no idea about the links with paedophilia.

StuntNun · 01/07/2019 13:10

Thank you so much for the update Dr Em I hope you are able to take the time to recover and recharge.

boatyardblues · 01/07/2019 12:58

Thank you to all of the women who have expressed concern over my whereabouts and their support for the work I do. I cannot tell you what it means to know that I am not stood alone.

I have been reading but not posting on this thread, DrEM, but I wanted to say how clear and incisive your Twitter threads have been and that your voice is valued and appreciated. I fully understand your need to rest and recuperate, but please don’t go silent. Many of us want to hear what you have to say. And thank you for all that you have done so far. Flowers

DanaPhoenix · 01/07/2019 12:55

Welcome DrEm please take whatever time you need and whether or not you return to Twitter is entirely your decision.

I would just like to say that I've found your insights and exposure of paedophilia invaluable. Mostly because you are revealing how deeply it's connections are imbedded in certain academic theories. Your threads and articles are at times difficult to read, truth be told they are quite distressing, but they are so incredibly important.

Satterthwaite · 01/07/2019 12:45

Wow DrEm you're amazing! All
power to your elbow. Take that break from Twitter

dancingcamper · 01/07/2019 12:38

I am about to read your posts properly DrEM but mostly I just wanted to say look after yourself first. This issue isn't going to resolved overnight so taking time to regroup every so often makes sense.

LangCleg · 01/07/2019 12:34

Lovely posts, DrEm. If you decide not to go back to Twitter, you'll always be welcome here. Flowers

Feminists are having to work alongside non-feminists in this cause which is always going to need tongues to be bitten sometimes and conflicts will arise.

This very true and managing it is never going to be easy.

ThatDoctorEM · 01/07/2019 12:29

Part two, sorry for these posts being so long.

I’m not going to comment on individuals or name names. This is not intended as a cop out it is just I see it as anything that is done to me can be weathered for the greater good of women & girl’s rights. There is no point in diminishing my voice even further when I am trying to raise the alarm about this ideology, queer theory and child safeguarding because I have put noses out of joint or upset the wrong people. I am sucking it up.

I deactivated because I was frustrated, exasperated and despairing. I had given up the fight, I don’t think I’m alone in reaching a stage when it feels pointless and undermined. I need to re-charge. I’m still deciding if I will go back to Twitter, some things have come to my attention over recent days which I am both heartbroken, horrified and angry about which puts me off returning and means I must cool off. It has also set my recovery back, I was meant to be clearing my mind. As some people may know I am disabled due to brain damage and I was at a stage where something was going wrong and I was essentially shutting down/losing certain abilities – I was very wobbly on my feet and I was finding speech increasingly difficult. This is a sign that I need to give my brain a rest and it is over worked.

I am a feminist, the real kind. Feminists are having to work alongside non-feminists in this cause which is always going to need tongues to be bitten sometimes and conflicts will arise. It is tougher when those who do not express or maintain feminist principles take your name – ‘feminist’ – while they demoralise you. It is not a tote bag or label, it is a theory and practice for women's liberation =).

In the GC movement I do believe that there is not only space but it is also necessary for all approaches and a coalition of perspectives. The feminist, the socialist, the conservative, the political, the protest, the work within power structures and the louder, blunter voices. However, I place a caveat on that – you should not consider yourself part of the movement if you routinely reinforce that which you claim to fight against. It undermines everything everyone has collectively worked for. It highlights how you are in it for yourself and not for the right reasons.

I think the jostling, back biting and point scoring to promote oneself maybe human but is both tiresome and dangerous to the collective goal. At some point the best interests of women and girls must be put above one’s own desires. Do not build your reputation off the backs of other people’s misery, if you are not aiding an end to suffering you are perpetuating it.

I am staunch in my idea that nobody is above question. I am committed to the principle that one should practice what one preaches: deeds not words.

To end positively, all the nastiness and shit pales in comparison to the amazing women I have met, learnt from and the friendships I have made.

ThatDoctorEM · 01/07/2019 12:24

I don’t know the etiquette of coming onto a thread one is mentioned in so apologies if this is the height of rudeness. I feel like I’m eavesdropping!
Thank you to all of the women who have expressed concern over my whereabouts and their support for the work I do. I cannot tell you what it means to know that I am not stood alone.
My gosh R0wantrees, I am fangirling over you – ‘she knows my name!’ style. I love your work and analysis on here and find the things you post about narcissistic control and flying monkeys invaluable, particularly when I’m trying to make sense of some situations.

The same applies to you LangCleg, your research is vital and I am fangirling. Thank you so much for your support, I’m overwhelmed.
Amalfimamma thank you for your support and belief in me, it really does mean the world.
Similarly, thank you too Pachyderm. And thank you Katniss.
Barracker, I do agree that the truth will always out and that includes the truth about one’s character and intentions. Am I right in thinking you wrote the Pronouns as Rohypnol piece – that was so fantastic.
Thank you BoudiccaKate and for raising the pattern. Like you I try to look at the patterns of behaviour alongside the wider structures which choices are made in. It is a bit like how liberal (anti)feminism has gutted analysis by hyper-individualising actions and events and freezing them in a disconnected vacuum.
Juelles I’m in agreement, and also that video was fantastic, really made me laugh.
Mermoose
I think your analysis of the comfort it can bring to one’s ego to say one has a trans friend, a trans person agrees with them, is spot on. I think it is sad and ultimately doesn’t work, all I hear is ‘but I’ve got black friends’, or ‘I’ve got female friends’. It suggests to me that the person is saying something they think is wrong and using the trans person as a human shield. I think using people as human shields dehumanises them, turns them into useful objects. Further, I do not think feminism, or even reason and facts, should be apologised for in any way. Our analysis is not hateful and therefore we don’t need to use human shields.
Erishkigal – it is true I express and stand by often unpopular opinions but I believe them to be right and be the truth. Sometimes, and this may be my perception rather than what is happening, it feels like I get shit thrown at me from all quarters for it. If standing up for what was right and women’s liberation was easy or brought personal advancement then everyone would be doing it.
I agree Erythronium, it is a pattern which has been played out across the women’s sector and we must be attune to it in our movement, be that GC or feminism. Mon 01-Jul-19 00:06:33
Thank you SpitefulBreasts my no-nonsense is often unappreciated and tone policed so it is nice to know that someone likes it!
Now I have to correct one point StuntNun made, I did not at any point unblock Kinesis. You are right though StuntNun I do feel it is coming at me from all sides at the moment, whether that is true or not, it doesn't change the stress of it. Thank you too for your support.

Also, that 2007 thread looks fascinating, thank you to AngryAttackKittens and, R0wantrees for posting it. I'll give it a read even though I'm under strict instructions to chill out in the garden!
