I'm on holiday, so don't get much access to the net. Can anyone tell me how the debate went?

So nothing being taught about women's rights, plenty on fucking gender...

Now why doesn't surprise me?

I started quoting CharlieParley's excellent post but didn't know when to stop. I agree with every word.

I think you'll find most regular posters know transgender people, thedevondumpling. Weird thing to say. That's not the same as examining the pros and cons of the primary school curriculum.

OldCrone · 26/06/2019 18:43

I quoted the man who is mediating, local MPs but you aren't open to considering anything other than the baying mob outside the school led by someone's uncle who decided he didn't like it.

If you read my posts, dumpling, you'll see that I have quoted the local MP, who has talked to the parents. I also said that there was a problem with some people who are clearly homophobic using this issue as an excuse to spread hatred. I have not, at any time, said that I agree with the 'baying mob'.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 26/06/2019 18:41

I do wonder if, actually a big part of the problem here is Moffat. we know he was sacked from a previous school for using teaching materials the governors weren't happy with, and he was teaching at Parkfield. Is the issue that on this occasion he was able to get the school leadership team to buy into his folly?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 26/06/2019 18:34

if you're going to sell this as state-mandated teaching of national equality laws

which isn't state mandated by the way. There's not requirement as far as I know that schools teach children about the eqaulity act. I'm a bit baffled as to why it's become a thing. schools have to comply with the act yes, but not teach it.

what other acts do we feel we must teach children? Police and Criminal Evidence Act? The Planning Act 2008?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 26/06/2019 18:31

Well plenty of Muslim in the area have good English, of course uncle probably needs to approve it

oopsie, your prejudice is showing

CharlieParley · 26/06/2019 17:52

This claim that Moffat is merely teaching the Equality Act is completely disingenuous in my view. Judging from the materials and reading list, there is hardly any (or no) teaching about sex as a protected characteristic, which would of necessity have to go into the women's rights aspect and then beautifully tie in with marital status and pregnancy & motherhood as two protected characteristics that help to address sexism. There's also barely anything about age either. And so on...

From what I've seen it's sexual orientation, gender and gender identity.

Nothing wrong with seeking to teach the kids about LGBT people and the issues they might face, but if you're going to sell this as state-mandated teaching of national equality laws, you don't get to a) misrepresent them and b) put such a heavy focus on a select few characteristics while all but ignoring the others.

Gone2far · 26/06/2019 17:37

It has a whole section on No Outsiders, which is being used by the school.

How odd that you're not interested in expanding your knowledge on this.

Why don't you try the transgender trend website? You might find it interesting. I know transgender people, not interested in website. I take it they aren't using it at the school so not really relevant.

thedevondumpling · 26/06/2019 17:29

If they were teaching about transgender to older children they wouldn’t be using My Princess Boy as material. Are they using that book at Anderton Park?

JackyHolyoake · 26/06/2019 17:03

The interesting thing about the Hansard report from that debate is how many men who are not parents contributed to it and projected an adult agenda, knowing about the LGBT agenda but knowing nothing about child development:

twicemummy1 · 26/06/2019 17:00

I think if we have to choose between protecting children from being transed ( catstration, mastectomy, puberty blockers, lifelong dependency on hormones) and promoting LGB rights we have no choice but to speak up against whatever the hell LGBT has become and protect the children.

LGB is going to end up taking a hit for the stupid trans.

Lesbians are saying Get the L Out but it stays in because anyone can be a lesbian these days.

AlwaysComingHome · 26/06/2019 16:25

I presume not everything is taught in reception. I mean algebra is on the maths curriculum but it isn't usually where the 4 year olds start. So if what they start with in reception is treating each other with respect, accepting all families aren't going to be the same that seems a good place to start.

If they were teaching about transgender to older children they wouldn’t be using My Princess Boy as material.

It is aimed at very young children.

I'm not relying on one man, I have quoted Mr Afzal the mediator, the Imam, other Birmingham MPs but like I said before don't let the truth get in the way of a good moan.

Gone2far · 26/06/2019 16:07

If you're interested, dumpling go on the transgender trend website. You seem to be overly reliant on what one Iman is saying

Should be Muslim women not Muslim.

thedevondumpling · 26/06/2019 16:05

I did see one news article that said that some mothers who went to the meetings to view the material had poor English, but weren't allowed to take the material home for their families to read. Well plenty of Muslim in the area have good English, of course uncle probably needs to approve it. We can't have silly women deciding.

thedevondumpling · 26/06/2019 16:04

OldCrone well he said he'd seen the resources they were using. I'm not going with one man, I quoted the man who is mediating, local MPs but you aren't open to considering anything other than the baying mob outside the school led by someone's uncle who decided he didn't like it.

OldCrone · 26/06/2019 15:58

Have the parents gone to the 1 to 1 meetings and seen the material? I don't think that was clear in what I read.

OldCrone · 26/06/2019 15:56

I can't imagine an Imam would be endorsing telling 5 year old they were born in the wrong body.

Was the imam aware of everything that was being taught?

You seem very content to go with the view of one single individual. I suggest reading a bit more widely about what's going on and look at what others are saying.

thedevondumpling · 26/06/2019 15:54

As it is, we're all in the dark. If you know more about this maybe you could post it here. I haven't seen it but I think the Imam was quite genuine, he was from the Muslim Council as far as I remember and I can't see why he would be lying about what he saw.

I went to school at a Catholic school close to Anderton Park but I don't have access to their resources. Have the parents gone to the 1 to 1 meetings and seen the material? I don't think that was clear in what I read.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 26/06/2019 15:50

I’m simply saying that teachers following recommended practice from Mr Moffat have ended up teaching children where I live things that I consider to be sexist and regressive, and dismissive of the rights of women and girls

And I can assure you I’m no homophobe

OldCrone · 26/06/2019 15:48

The problem with this, thedevondumpling, is that the truth is very hard to find. All the news sources are biased (as they are about everything). The local MP says there is "a frenzy of hatred against parents – mostly young mothers – who have done nothing wrong other than be good mothers who want to express concerns about what their children are telling them." He also said parents "are worried about a lack of consultation by the school, and about the "age appropriateness" of the lessons."

If we could all see what materials are being used and how the issues are being taught, it would be easier to see if there was actually a problem. As it is, we're all in the dark. If you know more about this maybe you could post it here.
