What a disgusting waste of public money. I agree the press needs to know about this. I reckon the Mail would be all over it. The Guardian/Independent would just bury it.

MockerstheFeManist · 24/06/2019 09:42

Anyone think the press should pick this up?

Gosh, if only there were a national newspaper of some sort that lurks on here.....

Time to call out this whatthefuckery of the first order.

Good find, though it seems to be a holistic programme but in the context of kids at risk of setting fires rather than a more generic school visit about gender identity.

Melroses · 23/06/2019 18:59

Is it buried on this page somewhere? Teaching young people how not to start fires by understanding their Gender Identity?

Mission creep

www.london-fire.gov.uk/community/young-people/life-programme/referring-a-young-person/

"Topics can include healthy living, sexual health, healthy relationships, cyber safety, money management, CV writing, interview skills, raising aspirations, reduction of antisocial behaviour, and raising awareness of gun and knife crime."

RoyalCorgi · 23/06/2019 18:40

In answer to a PP, Lucy Masoud is now training to be a barrister. I'm sure she'll be brilliant.

Iggypoppie · 23/06/2019 17:52

Did mermaids not give much of their funding to stonewall recently? Maybe Stonewall has passed it on to the Fire Brigade?

Follow the money....

Who is behind this?

KatvonHostileExtremist · 23/06/2019 16:58

She bizarrely told people she'd googled for them and linked to the normal school visits section, which doesn't mention anything but (wait for it) fire safety!

If I was the actual education manager there I'd be really cross. They do lots of crucial work with schools. This undermines that.

Why is she telling 11 & 12 year olds how to change the sex on their passports?

This is all creepy, what the hell is going on ???

That's the thing though. Where did the money for this training come from? I just did a search and came up with this for example:

www.fbu.org.uk/news/2017/11/15/union-slams-freemasons-funding-london-fire-brigade

So charitable bodies can give money to a service. They might then operate using the good name of service and the service gets some desperately needed extra cash? Worrying.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 23/06/2019 15:02

As Datun and Popchyck have pointed out, these individuals and organisations repeatedly target children and schools. Now why is that I wonder??.....

KatvonHostileExtremist · 23/06/2019 14:46

Can anyone do a freedom of information request to see just how much of our public money is being spent on this? I mean it's insane..... completely insane

DpWm · 23/06/2019 11:09

Oops I think my copy-and-pasted @ s might have sent an email to some random mumsnetters there...

Can I ask what training you have had to be delivering personal and social education to schools? It just seems odd that the fire service is needed for this when we have trained teachers in schools.

Do they call this "ratioed"

These children living in Bow, East London have been let down on so many levels.

Not least of which is that many of them will live in tower blocks.

Many of them will have parents who are in the early stages of learning English.

Many of them will be the public advocates for their families when liaising with landlords etc.

Of course, nothing about the legacy of Grenfell could be as important as telling children that they can change sex, but I hope Abby found a moment or two to mention smoke alarms, escape routes, safer cooking practices, lobbying landlords etc. during her riveting presentation.

OhHolyJesus · 23/06/2019 10:03

Oh good luck Chikenish let us know how the meeting goes (if it's not outing).

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 23/06/2019 10:02

Nothing about this makes sense. I have read the job description and it is entirely focused within the organisation.

Also, are school assemblies are booked over a month in advance? I wonder if this was a speaking engagement she had a stonewall and carried across to her new employer.

Also, surely the Fire Brigade has social media policies. Maybe she was too busy 'educating' children to complete her induction.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 23/06/2019 10:02

Nope. My niece trained with men and sat the same exams and physical tests as the men. She came top of the class.

SarahTancredi · 23/06/2019 10:00

What on earth is this to do with the fire service.Confused

arent fire firefighters medically trained to some extent ? Do they treat people according to gender identity or biology?

Deliriumoftheendless · 23/06/2019 09:56

“Trumpton fire station... what’s that? A small child thinks girls don’t have penises? Quick! Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew...etc”

(I know there’s already been a Trumpton joke but mine is slightly different.)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 23/06/2019 09:22

Oh and my niece went to visit a couple of stations when she was over here - she said their kit was very outdated compared to what she has.

Maybe they should spend this money (as these advisers seems to make a nice living out of this l) on updating their kit?

Datun · 23/06/2019 09:15

Popchyk

I am going to choose my words carefully here.

How come no bugger wants to go into care homes and the like to educate older people on LGBT equality? Lunch clubs for the over 60s? Gardening clubs? Knitting circles?

Nope.

Just children.

Indeed. These training sessions do appear to be disproportionately aimed at children.

FlapsMagazine · 23/06/2019 09:14

In NI our emergency services are under such pressure that fire fighters are being trained as paramedics. So nice to see London Fire Brigade have plenty time and resources on their hand

Chickenish · 23/06/2019 09:13

What happened to that gulag everyone was going to if they refused to toe the party line? I’d sooner go there than join this insanity.

I’ve got to go to work this week and explain to managers why I will be unable to work for them if they make the toilets mixed sex.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 23/06/2019 09:10

I don’t get it. They could be sending firefighters into the schools (ensuring a female FF is there too) to talk about what they do. What’s all this gender ID nonsense?

Unless we are in some country in the ME where women have (yes really) burned to death rather than be saved in their nighties or by an unknown male (not their choice).

And FWIW my niece is a kick ass team leader of a fire crew. She’d be brilliant to go and speak to little girls (and boys) thinking about being a FF) also very beautiful and glam - not that this matters a gnats). Unless she tells stories about what the job really entails (there isn’t enough money in there works for me to do what she does).
