Fucking hell. I belong to a child-free group on Fb. Fairly good craic even though I don't agree with some stuff on there. Majority in the group probably women in their early 20's. Someone asked yesterday what people thought about Trans woman competing in women's sports and ohhhh my god. The number of women sabotaging themselves with comments such as the one in my title. Wtf is going on? :( I know you'll find uber-wokes in all corners of the internet but God it makes me sad. How are some women so utterly gullible? Apologies - nothing new to add to the debate, I'm much more a reader than a poster but I feel very deflated right now.

Im also unable to comprehend what the hell 'big-dick-panties' mean.

To me that says underwear for men (I borrowing an american expression for womens knickers).

Mysogynistic also the inference of size of dick.

Mysogyny is unhealthy for women, yes, but men also.

Promoting stereotypes of male genital size etc. Like oggling/exploiting women with large boobs

ScottishDoll · 21/06/2019 12:24

I think that sort of comment needs proper assessment.

cis women need to put on their big dick panties and try harder.

Sorry I am really confused by this do you mean "Women need to put on a strap on dildo to run faster?" How does that work, I am not familiar with the mechanics of such "panties"? Obviously I have been aware of issues raised by The IAAF, Martina Navratilova, Sharron Davies etc but am completely at a loss on the topic of "big dick panties". Would you care to elaborate?

JustPurple · 21/06/2019 12:11

Rugby already does allow trans players in female leagues Fermat.
It is on a case by case basis but not only can trans women play in female leagues, trans men can (and do) even after they've began taking T.

Were simply not allowed to mention or discuss it because you're told your fear of being seriously hurt it bigoted.

RunningWild12 · 21/06/2019 12:01

Would they say that to Serena William’s face? So insulting to women have trained to an elite level in sport to be told it’s not good enough.
And why are these young women viewing themselves as some kind of subset of men? We are women/girls, full and complete human beings in our own right. Not lesser men. We face violence and discrimination because of our sex.
We fought to have our sports to suit us, our bodies. You let men in, there are no women’s sports.

DanaPhoenix · 21/06/2019 11:49

Yes it is vulnerable to the wokenistas. I stopped watching NRL men’s due to what I found was the hypocrisy of those in charge. Promotion of women’s rounds (not women actually playing) a lot of rhetoric only to turn a blind eye to some of the appalling behaviour of the players, rape, domestic violence, general misogyny. They make examples of the odd token player usually for drunken night club brawls or drugs, but when it a “talent” excuses are made.

I can definitely see them being inclusive to prove their progressive cred.

Hope your club makes the super league.

FermatsTheorem · 21/06/2019 11:11

They are Dana. I was lucky enough to be in the crowd at my local rugby stadium this year when we set a record for the largest crowd come specifically to see a women's Six Nations match.

Very much hoping my local club will be in the women's superleague being planned by the English RFU (I am going to buy season tickets if it comes good!)

But rugby is a sport which is particularly vulnerable to the woke-istas campaign. If they get their way and transwomen get included, it will simply become too dangerous to play.

(In the UK, youth football can be mixed right up to 18: for rugby the cut off is 11.)

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 21/06/2019 11:10

There are areas where women can compete with men, and there are many many areas where we can wipe them into the floor. Direct physical competition on grounds of strength is not one of them. It's ludicrous to even suggest it.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 21/06/2019 11:08

What you need to do is remind these young twits of the worth of such sayings as "If you want something doing do it yourself" and "put your money where your mouth is".
An alternative method is to agree fervently, nod emphatically and tell them that clearly all previous women have been doing it all wrong and we need these amazingly amazing new young women to get out there and show us how it's done.

Either way, end goal is to get them out there competing with the men themselves. Preferably in something contact based like judo. They'll learn.

TruthOnTrial · 21/06/2019 10:59

Yes, also nodding to the rude awakening that was the realisation my belief in sexual equality was merely a fantasy was a body shock.

DanaPhoenix · 21/06/2019 10:58

If it gives you any hope that things are slowly improving Fermats kick off has just commenced here for WNRL (Women’s National Rugby League) State of Origin. Prime time on a Friday night.
DS2 has insisted on watching massive NRL fan who after watching last years Women’s game was really impressed with their talent and toughness. “Excellent the Women are playing, we have a good chance of beating QLD this time, the blokes are useless.”

Better get back to it. Happy Friday.
GO THE BLUES 🤞🏻

I agree there is an optimum point if positivity, and beyond that is delusion, risk and self-denial...a very negative path to go down.

Also eeeeuuw over the word panties although its an americanism, its not used here in the uk that I've heard.

I really would have to block people pushing their agenda on women (like forcibly applying terms on the group women ).

Call her on it OP, make it clear that its entirely unnecessary and serving to promote that agenda upon women by changing our own group name [or trying to].

Not having it. As a group of young women, they have been sold this along with their nice feminine socialising, et voila!

Start reversing this trend at every turn, whilst giving full respect to those who do genuinely suffer from dysphoria, in all its forms.

chilling19 · 21/06/2019 10:19

DuMonde yes, it was like a bucket of cold water over my head. The party was well and truly over.

SenselessUbiquity · 21/06/2019 10:13

More broadly than just with respect to feminism, I think all this positive thinking / growth mindset bollocks has a lot to answer for.

It's privatising struggle and denying systemic factors and is a huge part of the way young people are brought up (though often for well meaning reasons).

So you get a load of magical thinkers who are all "deep down we can all fly". When of course you can't fly, you're filled with self loathing and a sense of failure. Easier to pretend your identifying as a flyer than face up to all this, till there is physically no choice, and then it turns into depression. All these young people are wildly oscilliating between aggressively judgemental optimism, and falling off a cliff of miserable mental illness.

I fucking hate positivity. I mean it has its place but I am constantly being shunned at work as Debbie Downer when my message isn't supposed to be "we'll never do this" but "please can we take a proper look at the risks we have to manage to be able to do this". It's out of control.

HorsewithnoHoldsBarred · 21/06/2019 10:08

Is it just me that hates the word "panties"?

A creepy man's word?

Whatisthisfuckery · 21/06/2019 09:30

Aren’t most women childfree in their early 20s?

RosemaryRemember · 21/06/2019 08:53

Another perspective.

I do not know any properly right on people at this stage in my life.

Almost everyone I have chatted to on this topic as it relates to prisons or women's sport has looked somewhere between uncomfortable and horrified.

Except for one young woman who went to an all girls' school where she has absorbed the ethos that women can do anything. Which in terms of her career trajectory right now has done amazing things for her. And no she has never chosen to do a sport.

FermatsTheorem · 21/06/2019 07:36

I'd put money on them all being the sort of women who don't play sport or if they do, play a niche sport where either physicality doesn't matter so much, or where the sport has so much engrained sexism that "cultural factors putting women off" is almost a plausible explanation.

I used to play women's football. There undoubtedly are huge cultural factors at work. For example, as the mother of a DS my experience is that approximately 50% of boys play football obsessively from when they can walk until the age it dawns on them they'll never play in the Premiership, whereas with girls it's closer to 1%. This means women's football has a much smaller pool of talent to choose from. It also explains the spectacular improvement in women's football over the last 25 years. It's gone from being a game where you could play at the top levels even if you weren't a natural athlete (the old cliché of men's pub football, the fat bloke with good ball skills - my ex's description of himself), to being a game where you have to have both at the top levels (compare the current women's world cup with the first women's FA cup to be televised). And remember the base line women's football is clawing its way back from is a 60 year ban (imposed by men in suits) on playing on FA pitches.

So I can see why some women construct this "we can catch up if we try hard enough" fairy tale. But if you look at a sport where the women's pro game has been there for 50 years, tennis, you quickly realize that there are physical discrepancies which no amount of hard work and talent remove.

And it's not just elite levels where this matters. Put a single male forward on a rugby pitch even at amateur level and the women will be coming off the pitch on stretchers.

It always strikes me as a curious contradiction that these women seem to want to say "if we admit to differences in strength and speed between men and women the whole edifice of feminism will come tumbling down" but at the same time are so ready to embrace the concept of "lady brains".

Iggly · 21/06/2019 07:13

Do young women not experience the relentless sexual harassment I got when I was younger? I'm sure they do. I've always been a feminist so I don't remember a time when I thought this was okay, how can women not notice

Subconsciously they’ll probably think it’s their fault.

"I honestly think they’re just selfish, bad people. They don’t give a shit because it doesn’t effect THEM directly. Very few people compete in sport for living, so they’d rather just virtue signal they are inclusive etc.

If it effected them directly they’d charge their tunes very quickly."

This.

I think it's selfishness, too. They aren't negatively affected by it directly and they just want to appear woke.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 21/06/2019 01:21

I was a bit of a ninny in my early 20s too. My entire vibe was based on what would make me appealing to men (although OF COURSE I was a strong, confident blah blah blah). Radical feminism doesn't really appeal to men. Throwing other women under the bus definitely does.

Just pity them. They've grown up in a world that tells them that their only worth is in being decorative and kind and fluffy. In a few years, the vast majority of them will see the truth.

BickerinBrattle · 21/06/2019 01:14

I don't know if there are Americans in your FB group, OP, but in the US, a LOT of girls go to college on athletic scholarships -- for many families, those girls are the first ones in the family to go to college.

So it matters a whole hell of a lot if boys start winning secondary school level championships and start taking slots and scholarships on university women's teams.

Hithere12 · 21/06/2019 01:05

Alice Robert's initially said apart from the very top Elite athletes the issue of Transwomen in sports was a social one. Someone showed her the stats for boys and girls and that from 13 onwards boys outperform girls and the gap accelerates every year. Funnily enough she never replied.
