I saw this in Manchester Canal Street this afternoon.

I am SICKENED. Paedophiles have no place in the LGBT community. The fact that this is being displayed in broad day light. Equally disgusted and dismayed.

I got so angry I compiled a tweet.

Gay rights have NOTHING to do with this shit. We are being tarred with this brush. NO!

The overton window is shifting. Everywhere we look we see paedophillia being normalised. This is not a drill. Women - wake the fuck up

i would read that as echoing 1970s campaigns by groups such as PIE.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 11/06/2019 20:35

does nobody check these things

They do, but it's all about seeing what you can get away with, slipping things in here and there to normalise it.

ThatCurlyGirl · 11/06/2019 20:34

Boy Love is absolutely a phrase used within pro paedophilia groups in the US.

And this is extremely well known in the LGBT community.

Using the phrase on a t shirt is goady as fuck.

It would be like an adult men's t-shirt that has "I like jail bait" written on it.

TheBullshitGoesOn · 11/06/2019 20:32

Wtf Zebras. That post! Angry

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 11/06/2019 20:30

It's clear what this is implying, and the "but it's only" response is why things creep in.

Hithere12 · 11/06/2019 20:27

As in ‘boys night out’, ‘our boys’ (soldiers), ‘boys in blue’, even ‘cowboys

None of those are code words identified by the FBI used in pedophile circles.

MonkeyTrap · 11/06/2019 20:25

I’m not disputing the code but I wouldn’t have realised this and just associated it with gay pride.

ZebrasAreBras · 11/06/2019 20:23

Nobody seems to have a clue about children's safeguarding anymore.

This is something LGBT News posted on FB. Spot the glaring issue.

I believe they have removed the post now - but ffs, does nobody check these things??

As in ‘boys night out’, ‘our boys’ (soldiers), ‘boys in blue’, even ‘cowboys’.

But none of the above are used. Yes of course boys can mean lads, and most people would happily say boys night out for lads night out.

But when specifically used with the word love following it, it is NOT a synonym for lads.

Bluestitch · 11/06/2019 20:17

Not the word 'boy', the term 'boy love'. Are posters being deliberately obtuse? It's nothing to do with terms like 'boys night out'.

FloralBunting · 11/06/2019 20:16

dreich, yes we can certainly hope that's the case. But it is still not acceptable, given the current climate of MAPs on Twitter and adding P to the LGBT alphabet soup and some of those links in the Twitter thread, to go anywhere near this sort of link. Like I say, naivete is not a good thing in this.

AlwaysComingHome · 11/06/2019 20:15

Ok maybe not code word but it’s a known term used by them

It’s also a synonym for ‘lads’.

As in ‘boys night out’, ‘our boys’ (soldiers), ‘boys in blue’, even ‘cowboys’.

I have an old Inspiral Carpets t-shirt. I’m not throwing it away because paedophiles use the spiral as a symbol.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 11/06/2019 20:14

Okay, I have been brave and googled boylove. It is apparently a known paedo term. So genuine mistake or not, the shop shouldn’t be selling them.

Bluestitch · 11/06/2019 20:13

Quick google of the term. The first definition on both wiki and urban dictionary-

I spent the last decade working in the field of child sex abuse and understand that there are and always have been those pushing for the legalization of sex between both adults and children and adults and teenagers. I'm pretty sure Harriet Harmon got caught up in it decades ago.
But I think boy is used in the sense that people talk about 'girls night out' etc. Rather than a t shirt suggesting child sex abuse is a positive thing.

Bluestitch · 11/06/2019 20:11

And it's a term used by 99.9% of the rest of the world to mean nothing at all to do with paedophilia.

Really? Can't say it's a term I've ever used. Do you have cause to say it much then?

FloralBunting · 11/06/2019 20:10

Really? Lots of people use the phrase 'boy love' do they?Hmm

DJLippy · 11/06/2019 20:10

I am not being paranoid or alarmist. The gay community has been infiltrated by paedos in the past.

Bluestitch · 11/06/2019 20:09

Boy Love is a term long used by pro paedophile activists. I find it hard to believe that a company would make those t-shirts having no clue of this.

Unshriven · 11/06/2019 20:08

And it's a term used by 99.9% of the rest of the world to mean nothing at all to do with paedophilia.

FloralBunting · 11/06/2019 20:08

Yes, I hope the creator of the T shirt was just completely ignorant of the context. I hope lots of people are, tbh, because to know what that phrase means and to still make the t shirt is a very nasty thought indeed.

SomeDyke · 11/06/2019 20:07

Girls is much more often used for adult women than boy is used for adult men (although BOYS plural has a different meaning, granted). So it is not equivalent between the sexes.

Given the history amongst the gay community with the man/boy paedo groups from the past, the dual meaning of boy love should not be ignored. So some young gay men might wear this, and just think it means younger gay men, but some will also wear it and know it has another meaning (and take secret pleasure in that they can publically display their actual predilections whilst hiding behind the 'it's just gay pride' thing.)

Gay rights (well, gay men predominantly) has been infiltrated in the past, and those designing T-shirts and window displays should know better. Or they do, and don't care............

It IS there, I know going as far back as when I was a student, there were gay male speakers who wanted to talk about 'younger' as in younger than even the straight age of consent at the time (16). Our lesbian and gay group, it was only the dykes who said if this speaker was invited, we would all leave. The chaps finally gave in, but they really did seem to have a problem recognising this as a problem. And some of the responses above seem to show the same issues.

Naivete is cute and all, but please take some time to read links here. Look up Tatchell and his contention that children having sex doesn't have to be a bad thing. Look at boy 'drag kids' dancing for money in gay clubs and posing with naked men.

Just because you are decent enough to understand that sex with children is flat out abuse, don't be foolish enough to think that there aren't people out there genuinely pushing for it. As uncomfortable as that is to acknowledge, it really must happen, or a whole other generation is going to be swallowed up in this.

Hithere12 · 11/06/2019 20:05

As code words go, it would be a bit crap

Ok maybe not code word but it’s a known term used by them.
