When Jean announced an upcoming ride for women, a TRA asked for info, wanting to join with “the ladies” to support “the ladies.” Jean advised that the ride was for women only. The TRA then sent Jean, who has ovarian cancer, a photo of an ovarian scan.

Kitty Holland of the Irish Times then appeared on Jean’s twitter feed to ask why Jean was “having a go” at transwomen.

Despite Jean’s careful explanation that this was a ride specifically to celebrate women in the UK murdered by husbands or boyfriends, and that no transwomen appeared in that grouping, Kitty Holland has continued to tweet about the “transphobia.” She even accused Debbie Hayton of transphobia after Debbie backed Jean.

A TRA posted on twitter a reward for anyone who’d knock Jean off her bike.

For anyone who has a bike but isn’t in London, Jean is now helping others to organize rides in other cities.

Benefits go to Karen Ingalla-Smith’s organisation, nia.

I have a policy of making a donation whenever this kind of pile on happens. It’s costing me quite a bit, I must say. If you’re reading this, Jean, I’ve just sent you a little contribution to your wonderful cause.

I do the same thing! Also chuck an extra quid in to crowdfunders when people turn up here to try to discredit them!

All power to Jean's elbow. She's very good at publicising her efforts and I'm unsure why this would be a bad thing?

SunsetBeetch · 11/06/2019 09:08

That's weird. Trying again.

GCAcademic · 11/06/2019 09:00

Top five? Sigh. “To be fair”. Bloody IPad.

GCAcademic · 11/06/2019 08:59

Or is it just about harassing women?

Top five, I don’t think it’s just about harassing women. For the handmaidens it’s also about getting men to like you, and using woke cred to progress your career. Other women are just collateral damage to them.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/06/2019 08:57

From the tweets there I think we don't need to assume anything, it obviously IS just to harrass women!

Popchyk · 11/06/2019 08:56

Trans allies can surely organise rides of their own? And honour whoever they want to honour in that way?

Or is it just about harassing women?

OrchidInTheSun · 11/06/2019 08:54

Sorry Kenn. Brain not quite engaged yet Blush

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 08:51

I regularly donate to Jeans cause, I was a child of terrible domestic violence and thought he’d kill my mum or brother many times. I’ll be donating again today to show support.

I don’t know why I’m surprised by this but the woman from the Irish Times has really pissed me off.

#JessicaWakefieldSV I was being sarcastic. Sadly I think the police are more likely to take course of action outlined by #KennDodd.

Sunset beetch, theres no image?? Has it been removed?

KennDodd · 11/06/2019 08:34

OrchidInTheSun

I was making a point about how this is more likely to be treated by the police.

Transwoman threatens to assault a women - police ignore.
Women, runs women only event, transwoman complaints - police investigate.

Datun · 11/06/2019 08:32

Awful for Jean and everyone else involved, but massive amounts of revealing sunlight. Explaining why women riding for murdered women is transphobic couldn't be more effective in exposing the misogyny.

Floisme · 11/06/2019 08:24

If they really want to help why don't they offer to serve tea and sandwiches afterwards?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/06/2019 08:24

Yep!

Isatis · 11/06/2019 08:15

There are an awful lot of knobheads around.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/06/2019 08:15

It isn't about actually joiing her, Isatis it is about her saying they can or can't.

As has been noticed over teh last few years when TRAs get something they have shouted about wanting they don't use it or they find another thing to shout about. Gender neutral toiltes for example. In places where they now exist TRAs are shouting that having floor to ceiling doors are transphobic! Sadly I am not joking!

Floisme · 11/06/2019 08:13

I don't know. But here's another genuine question: what kind of nobhead would want to do that when they've been asked not to?

Isatis · 11/06/2019 08:10

Genuine question: how, in practical terms, can Jean Hatchet prevent men from joining the rides if they take place on public roads?

SunsetBeetch · 11/06/2019 08:09

Here is a screenshot of the threatening tweet about Jean.

FlapsMagazine · 11/06/2019 08:09

Kitty's awful, just awful

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 11/06/2019 08:04

Jean is amazing and it seems there are now rides happening in Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Suffolk, Cambridge, Wales if anyone wants to join in.

OrchidInTheSun · 11/06/2019 08:01

What's she done Kenn? It's perfectly okay for her to arrange a women only event.

KennDodd · 11/06/2019 07:55

I imagine the police are dealing with this as I type...
Do you mean by interviewing Jean about her transphobic hate crime?

nettie434 · 11/06/2019 07:54

It is abhorrent to send Jean a picture of an ovary. I think what makes them angry is that by focusing the rides on women murdered in the UK by men, it becomes clear that trans women are not the most vulnerable group in terms of deaths by murder.

Karen’s website says 148 women were murdered last year in which a man was the suspect or main suspect. I believe one trans woman was murdered last year. Of course that is one death too many and I admit the number is very different in other countries.

It is a deliberate tactic to obfuscate the fact that anyone fundraising has the right to choose which cause/group of people to focus on and that Jean does not have to apply the Equality Act as if she were a public body or organisation delivering a service.
