I've only heard it on PM R4 so far but it sounded sensible.

Declared it an ideology.

Can't find original statement.

Mike Schmitz is excellent. But this statement is very helpful.

There's a very good (not current) YouTube vid from Fr Mike Schmitz (Catholic priest) <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D4-9_rxXFu9I&ved=2ahUKEwjgmYLdrd_iAhU7VBUIHTsuBEsQwqsBMAB6BAgEEAU&usg=AOvVaw3SCk-YsTNKNodLMcEHmiF8" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here that talks all about a Catholic attitude to Transgender. I agree with him and love his conclusions that we are called to "walk with them" for anyone suffering. Its a compassionate and level headed argument.

Back to Pope Francis: isnt it stupid that GC thinking alligns with Catholic thinking on this issue when the church holds some pretty regressive views on other matters? Im thinking of issues such as female priests, contraception and abortion. I'm Catholic but think they need to move into 21st century, particularly on the priest issue!

When it comes to trans ideology its so regressive saying "these are female characteristics, these are male, if you dont fit these categories then change your appearance" ....crazy.

Trying to work out what is "pseudoscholarly" about that statement...

Nope.

DeBernardo added: People do not choose their gender, as the Vatican claims: they discover it through their lived experiences.

Yes, their lived experiences of having gender norms imposed upon them.

JellySlice · 10/06/2019 17:40

It says gender theories are “often founded on nothing more than a confused concept of freedom in the realm of feelings and wants, or momentary desires provoked by emotional impulses and the will of the individual, as opposed to anything based on the truths of existence”.

Seems reasonable to me.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 10/06/2019 17:34

Ironic that the transideologues are complaining about the Vatican not consulting biologists and scientists...

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/06/2019 17:34

(To mockers)

Not what I've read yet.

Bloody hell. I agree with Catholics.

JellySlice · 10/06/2019 17:31

Takes one to know one.

JackyHolyoake · 10/06/2019 17:31

So, the Vatican is telling us something we already know?

We know that "transgenderism" is an ideology. It has zero basis in any science or any other factual discipline.

MockerstheFeManist · 10/06/2019 17:29

The usual pseudoscholarly Vaticanese, but it seems to be saying that gender is linked intrinsically and inexorably to biological sex.

Or that there is no such thing as gender.

Or something else.

It's difficult to tell.

(which is possibly the idea.)

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/06/2019 17:25

Yes unfortunately so.

The irony of one ideology recognising another.

The reporting of what the document actually says is all over the place. I think we need to see the wording of the document itself.

Whichever way it goes though, it will serve as a stick to beat the gender critical side.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/06/2019 17:21

Quite the opposite mockers dear.

82 year old virgin conflates gender with sex.

As they say in Italy: He no playa da game, he no make-a da rules.
