Jeremy Hunt is trying to be the next Tory leader, is on national TV declaring abortion limit should be 12 weeks in his opinion. God help us if he’s elected.

Aren’t there more important things to prioritise than policing women’s bodies?

@Grimbles
Apparently not. Just the way they go sometimes. Ive aldi been told it by another friend who worked in the termination department for years. Its jot as uncommon as you might think. The job ofstaff is to swiftly remove the foetus and conceal it to from the woman. If its moving its a bit hard to do though. When shes involved in surgical abortions they scanbto scan yo check there is no heartbeat first as we all know they have to remove the foetus in segments. She is extremely compassionate and always says it's very unpleasant especially as they have to reassemble the foetus afterwards to check nothing is remaining which can endanger the woman's health but is totally impartial and extremely caring. Few medical staff are willing to be involved in these procedure we should be thankful for those who are.

Off-topic for a moment but.... several coming out of the woodwork as having had drugs (where they all threatened with outing or something?)

My first thought too. And lo! a book about Gove is due to appear this year so the drugs thing presumably had to be 'managed' with some degree of positive spin.

Grimbles · 10/06/2019 09:31

@GlamGiraffe so you were actually referring to a procedure that went wrong. Totally proving my point about spreading misinformation and omitting relevant points.

NasiGoreng · 10/06/2019 09:27

Amber Rudd is now backing JeremyH and so she must agree with the 12 week limit too.
Thanks Amber.

NasiGoreng · 10/06/2019 09:25

JH only needs to convince the C*ntservative party at the moment but he then needs to go on to convince the public. If the C's had any sense they would vote in someone who can win over the public. If they don't do this they will lose an election because people will split the vote between C's and Brexit Party, potentially letting in the LibDs or Labour by default.

GlamGiraffe · 10/06/2019 09:19

@pwelirocco123
Thank you for concurring that stories of the tablets to end foetal life do not always work.
@ChattyLion
Why would I inform the police over a completely legal process?...hence my point.

Grimbles · 10/06/2019 09:02

@pelieocco123 how would 'taking contraception more seriously' prevent the tragedy of women having to make the choice to end a wanted pregnancy?

It's amazing the amount of people who know someone who was planning to abort a viable pregnancy past 20 weeks, hey? Given how vanishingly rare it is.

pelirocco123 · 10/06/2019 08:50

A close family member had to have a termination at 18 weeks due to a serious problem with the pregnancy . She had to take a tablet to end the life of the feotus a few days before induced labour . She had a long hard labour , with the baby being born sleeping , a pretty horrendous experience for her ....not sure if this is the method they use for late elective terminations
Babies can of course be born breathing , in early labour , one would hope steps would be taken for this not to happen in terminations , although you do hear stories of this happening

pelirocco123 · 10/06/2019 08:44

What would you want as an upper limit?
I would assume this would be for elective abortions as opposed for those on medical grounds?
I am pro choice , but the idea that you can choose to have an abortion , because you dont want a baby late into a pregnancy as unacceptable tbh
Abortion shouldn't be seen as a form of contraception , and I have come across many girls who treat it as such
With so much choice regarding contraception there should be such a high need for abortions ,
I am not saying there arent many genuine reasons why an abortion is the only option , I just wish contraception was taken more seriously .
I know one woman who wanted to terminate her pregnancy but backed out of one at about 12 weeks because she was scared of needles , but was going to go ahead with one at 23 weeks because she was told she would have it under a general ...........I didnt know that was even possible .....I am sorry what that is just wrong

Muststopfaffing · 10/06/2019 08:28

Can anyone link to the breakdown of stats for percentages of abortion and reason for them? I suspect I’m about to get into a Facebook argument with someone about it and having the info to hand would be very helpful.
@Langcleg (sorry to at you) where were your stats from please?

Grimbles · 10/06/2019 08:27

Glamgiraffe dont assume that the women on here are stupid enough not to see through your misinformation and omissions when describing a late abortion.

Denying desperate and grieving women the right to end an unviable pregnancy is a very special kind of cruelty.

Loopytiles · 10/06/2019 08:20

Given his policies and actions when he was Health Secretary this isn’t that surprising, but nonetheless worrying.

Playing to Trump, or dig at Boris perhaps?

ChattyLion · 10/06/2019 08:17

GlamGiraffe assuming that’s not completely made up then you should call the police straight away and give them all the details you can so they can investigate your claims immediately. I’m sure you’d agree that it would be absolutely awful and manipulative for anyone to put about lies on the internet around this very delicate subject.

Tinyteatime · 10/06/2019 08:16

Shit. Just when I thought I couldn’t hate that man more.

GlamGiraffe · 10/06/2019 08:13

Grimbles
Sorry to disappoint you buut absolutely true. She's never got over it. She's still traumatised her 20+ years later.
Look into it. Late term abortions ate often induced births rather than surgical and there are a percentage where there live births. Babies are considered unviable so left. Do not yell me What I know to be true.

Wherearemyminions · 10/06/2019 08:01

I had what was technically classed as an abortion at 21+5. (This was 22 years ago) My waters had broken and I was told there was zero chance of baby surviving, I was offered the choice of going home and waiting or being induced. I chose the induction. I delivered about 8 hours later, baby was not alive , although I was warned that they may be and may struggle to breath for a while which would have been massively distressing, so as awful as it was it was a relief in some ways that she had no signs of life.

Anyone who thinks that 12 weeks is some kind of neat, tidy arbitrary line to draw is deluding themselves. There are a myriad of reasons and circumstances that mean people choose to terminate pregnancies and they are all valid, regardless of how other people feel about them.

Probably not articulating well but just so very tired of some men (and some women) seeming to suggest that abortion is by and large something that is done on a whim by flighty women for selfish reasons.

My own experience and that of friends and other family members is that abortion is sometimes needed, sometimes wanted, sometimes both, but when it is decided on, whatever the situation, it is necessary and that seems pretty fucking straightforward to me.

Helmetbymidnight · 10/06/2019 07:53

That's beyond acceptable and should never be allowed in a civilised world

this simplistic dumb down thinking plays well with the country. we should never doubt it.

amber rudd saying now he wouldnt change it...

Grimbles · 10/06/2019 07:44

Avery good friend had a 22 week abortion and the baby was born alive still. The nurse stuffed it in a yellow bag

What an absolute pile of steaming bullshit.

GlamGiraffe · 10/06/2019 07:39

I agree with abortion but personally for me 12 weeks is a fair limit. Sorry ladies.
A very good friend had a 22 week abortion and the baby was born alive stillShockShockShock. The nurse stuffed it in a yellow bag. That's beyond acceptable and should never be allowed in a civilised world. She wishes shed never done it. Another friend of mine who has worked in this area has said this happens not uncommonly.
(I'm not sure that is one of his main policies I think it was just as passing comment)

NasiGoreng · 10/06/2019 07:29

It wouldn't be long before we were all wearing crimson dresses and white bonnets.

Helmetbymidnight · 10/06/2019 07:29

he's playing to the crowd - and he only needs to play to cons party members for now. i reckon he thinks that will go down well with them...

Lexilooo · 10/06/2019 07:29

For anyone interested in reliving the glorious moment

NasiGoreng · 10/06/2019 07:28

Just to add, I hate that he bandied the word "conscience" around about 3 times. "Politicians will vote with their conscience", as if even if they don't vote for it, he is whiter than white because he would.

Shame his conscience was absent when he was Health Secretary.

I won't ever vote for the C*ntservatives again because they are sub human so he is irrelevant to me but JH is the lowest form of pond weed you could find in the politician sewer.

Lexilooo · 10/06/2019 07:27

So it seems what James Naughtie said about Jeremy Hunt on the today programme all those years ago was bang on. Jeremy Hunt is a Cunt!!
