This is a very good example of Mermaid's unevidenced approach to training and relationships with the police. Mermaids seem to think that what worked for the CEO would work for other families in crisis.
In fact, 'what worked' for Sally Green's child raised a lot of red flags for me
Green described how one West Yorkshire Police Officer helped them at a time of crisis and developed a relationship with Jackie Green. I don't know whether the officer was a family friend.
Green seems to think that police officers are capable and available to work with and support distressed children threatening suicide, with a bit of awareness training.
No. No. No. No. It's not the police's job. A bit of 'awareness' training from mermaids is a dangerous thing.
In any case, things have moved on and police officers themselves know that such cases need health professionals.
Green's TRA critics are pefectly right - the police have no business interfering and dispensing advice to children in need of health care. If she'd done some research instead of relying on her own persoanl experience, she would know that.
