That’s not going to be possible until they’ve figured out what to say! And lawyers will be over this too. So I’m not surprised it’s not being reported ... yet. But if it isn’t covered then there’s a serious question why not.

I actually cannot imagine a workplace where this is not gross misconduct at least. It is nothing to do with transphobic or homophobic - it is quite simply inappropriate for anyone to do this.

LangCleg - I don't think you're entirely right about why this isn't all over the news. Papers like the Mail normally love a story about charity wrongdoing. (Look at the huge coverage they gave the Kids Company scandal.) Most of the tabloids relish a story that involves kinky sex and misbehaviour. I think the reason they're not publishing this at the moment is most likely to be a legal one - so far it's all hearsay on the internet.

But as one of the main wankers was the manager, no one really gave a shit what the lone woman in the office thought about it. I'm sorry, I still can't get over, besides the general safeguarding stuff, how there can be people shrugging their shoulders about a man masturbating at work and filming it.
It is indefensible, whether you have direct contact with kids or not. I don't care what you do sexually, with the usual caveats, in your own home. But having a wank isn't like having a poo. It's not an absolute must do physical activity for health and hygiene reasons.

If you need to do it at work, you are someone with serious compulsion/self control issues, and you need discipline, in all bloody senses of the word.

I used to work for a children's charity. It was mandatory that every employee, in all departments, undertook safeguarding training as part of the induction process.

I have also worked in professional offices where women were a tiny minority. Never once I have I heard or been told second hand that anyone of any sexual orientation has just disappeared to pleasure themselves in a workplace toilet.

A few years ago the NSPCC asked MN volunteers to sign up for various different internet sites and check how easy it was to join and what age checks were in place. I was one of those volunteers, how quickly things have changed, the seem to have forgotten about safe guarding.

Because it never is until the dam is broken and there is no other choice. Because the horrible truth is that society will turn its head away from the abuse of children (and women) for as long as possible. It's unpalatable so everyone pretends they can't see until there is absolutely no other choice.

Why did it take so long for the Catholic priest scandal to break? The Oxfam scandal? The on-street grooming scandal? The Savile scandal? All the other scandals?

Because there are none so blind as those who won't see.

And that's why the pitchforks come out when finally they are forced to see. It's the assuaging of guilt for refusing to look in the first place.

Yes, of course, that's obvious. I am just saying that masturbation in the toilets and then telling people about it was not that unusual amongst men working where I have worked (the same industry that produces all the 50y old AGPs of course). Society has changed to normalise and accept extreme sexualised behaviour and many people like JCub are immersed in an online world full of it, supported by many people who don’t want boundaries.

It may be that this will be a test of the strength of NSPCC employment policies & judgement.

Employment policies & ethos in organisations engaged in Child Protection should be able to resist the pushing of sexual boundaries by adult employees.

To be more accurate, its comparable to a male member of Social Services Child Protection team doing this.

There are many people working in Social Services Child Protection departments who do not have direct contact with children & families eg providing admin, HR, legal, IT, maintenance work etc

All would be trained and aware of the additional Safeguarding principles which apply to this work environment.
Employees conduct would always be considered wihin this context because of the implications. Same with schools etc the impact in a service or organisation supporting children is completely & specifically different to other workplaces.

Many of them freely commented, on a regular basis, to having just had a wank on return from the toilets (luckily, still male so I used the female ones upstairs). Its not that unusual ime. This was in a London investment bank.

This is puzzling me. It's a classic tabloid story, so you'd think the Sun and the Mail would be all over it like a rash. I can only assume that it has to go through lawyers first and they're urging caution.

But I'm astonished at the NSPCC's reaction. For most employers, this would result in instant dismissal, or at the very least a promise to investigate. They don't seem to see anything wrong with an employee who masturbates in the office toilets and then posts the video footage of it online.

Well I think we'd like to ask the NSPCC why they have recently changed the definition of child sexual abuse to only be abuse if it makes the child uncomfortable. Was this intentional? And if not now that the gaping hole has been pointed out will they change it back?

Also what constitutes gross misconduct when employed by the NSPCC?
