If you could chose sex from birth would you live as a man?

I realised almost every bad or difficult thing thats happened to me personally most likely wouldn't happen to a guy. So if could chose, I think I would probably chose to live life as a man. This makes me a bit sad.

How about you guys?

regan, the UK is out, then. My doctors has a huge poster about FGM. They wouldn’t have that if it didn’t happen here.

Fl0w3r · 05/06/2019 22:17

Nope! I love being a woman!

Although I do wish I didn't have to deal with mega painful periods each month.

Bufferingkisses · 05/06/2019 22:13

It's a loaded question though. We are women so we know the negatives but are, generally, happy. Ask men and they would probably say similar.

Giving a theoretical person a list of pros and cons for both and seeing free choice is the only way to truly test the theory.

Personally I am pretty certain being a man is easier because I am intimately aware of the drawbacks of being a women. Men most likely have the reverse idea.

No way. I love being female. Men in spite if their privilege don't have a better deal. BECAUSE of our situation we tend to be more sensitive; less yucky and gross we get it more than men. Since I believe that spiritual growth is the aim of life, and male ego and sense of entitlement is one of the hardest hurdles to overcome, I choose female every time. Plus I love being a mother.

RaininSummer · 05/06/2019 22:02

No I don't think so. They get an easier ride in many ways but women are amazing.

Yeahsurewhatever · 05/06/2019 21:58

Yep. Without question.
I always wanted to be a boy when I was growing up - the boys and men around me seemed to have a much better deal.
Now the men my age at work aren't stressing about the same stuff I am (like how to have kids without ruining my career)- because I'm a woman.

The older women at work are struggling with childcare after the men in their lives left.

Any partners struggle with me being career focused, earning more money etc.

sex is easier, any health issues I have are due to my complicated reproductive system, no pregnancy, childbirth, breast feeding, mum shaming, slut shaming, body shaming

Plenty to not like about being a man. But I think the pros outweigh the cons by far.

ReganSomerset · 05/06/2019 21:48

*2019. Bloody phone.

ReganSomerset · 05/06/2019 21:47

Depends. In the UK in 2018, I'll stay female thanks. In Saudi Arabia, I'd go male. Also anywhere with fgm.

letsrunfar · 05/06/2019 21:40

I guess it depends on how you define "having it easier"

More likely to die at work
Higher suicide rate
More likely to be victim of violet crime
More likely to be killed
Harder to find sexual partners
If working class, more likely to under perform in education and work.

Plenty not to like about being a man.

Orchidoptic · 05/06/2019 21:38

Why would I want to be a man? A tree, now, I’ve always thought that would be a good idea.

managedmis · 05/06/2019 21:38

Man of course.

Tall, white, good looking, educated and preferably American or British. Can't go wrong really

Doje · 05/06/2019 21:37

No, because all the good things that have happened in my life wouldn't have happened.

The relationships, the fun, the dancing, the conversations are all so much better. I may get slated, but I think there's so much more going on with women than with men.

Neome · 05/06/2019 21:34

And not have fat fingers

Neome · 05/06/2019 21:33

I woukd like to live as a person in a world with other people.

fromthefloorboardsup · 05/06/2019 21:32

Logically yes because men do have it easier and sexism gets tiring and frustrating. But in reality, no. Despite all the shit we put up with, I genuinely love being a woman. I love female solidarity and companionship and I just have a very strong gut attachment to being female. I think we're great Smile

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/06/2019 21:28

No way! Even though I grumble continually about the patriarchy. Women rock.

Aquamarine1029 · 05/06/2019 21:26

Fuck no. How boring.

Missillusioned · 05/06/2019 21:26

siglingor well generally more likely 😂

Michelleoftheresistance · 05/06/2019 21:25

I like being a woman, and that's included being a tomboy and not bothered about performing femininity. I enjoy the freedoms of that, I enjoy relationships with other women, I enjoy the culture of women.

Would I like to identify out of the oppression bits of existing in this biology? Yes. That's what I'd like. I'd have liked not to have been repeatedly sexually harassed and assaulted from the age of eight onwards for owning female biology near a male who felt entitled to it. I'd have liked the same career opportunities as less talented and qualified members of my degree class who owned a penis. I'd like to be allowed to openly be homosexual without people with penises feeling entitled to make my body and sexuality all about meeting their needs. I'd like to feel that I wasn't viewed as part of a lesser class by our very broken political system.

But I'd like that while still keeping the biology please.

siglingor · 05/06/2019 21:21

missi not completely guaranteed!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/06/2019 21:18

No - similar to newtlover.

But I know I'm fortunate to never have suffered any significant discrimination or harassment, and can understand why some might feel differently.

hazandduck · 05/06/2019 21:14

Ooh good question. Yes I probably would be a man if I actually weighed it up. I think I would have had confidence to make more of my life.

But at the same time, my god I loved carrying and giving birth to my daughter, I love that I’m the only person she genuinely wants when she feels at her most vulnerable, and I do also love, if I’m honest, being small and feminine at times.

I just asked DH this question and he said he would definitely be a man...because he can pee standing up! Hmm There’s the opinion of someone who’s never thought about or experienced sex based prejudice or oppression!
