What about the women's world cup?!

Hi everyone, I read a couple of threads on the sports bit of Mumsnet and realised I was only reading about men's football. The women's world cup starts on 7th June and it's a really important year for supporting and promoting the game for women and girls. For those that don't know, a bit of history is that the women’s game was huge in the UK between the world wars (crowds of 55,000 with 14,000 waiting outside!), and large numbers of working class factory women playing in teams all over the country over many years - becoming household names and raising lots of money for returned soldiers and mining communities. Then the FA banned women from playing, for 50 years. When the FA finally lifted the ban in the 70s, women players faced horrendous treatment and the game has been struggling to come back ever since.

So it's brilliant that football is having a comeback. Here's where it's on in London londonist.com/london/sport/womens-world-cup-2019-football-where-to-watch-london-screenings

HiHoToffee · 14/06/2019 21:14

Argh!!

NoseringGirl · 14/06/2019 21:14

This England game is ridiculously frustrating. How have we not scored?!

Needmoresleep · 14/06/2019 21:09

We need that goal...

LimitIsUp · 14/06/2019 21:08

Bloody hell that keeper!

HiHoToffee · 14/06/2019 20:52

England so dominant but can't make it count, argh. Credit to Argentina for stopping them.
Bring on the second half, England can win this!

youkiddingme · 14/06/2019 20:51

Can't knock the Argentina Goal keeper. But yeah frustrating.

LimitIsUp · 14/06/2019 20:47

Frustrating first half - England should be ahead

youkiddingme · 14/06/2019 20:02

Settling in Smile Brew Cake

HiHoToffee · 14/06/2019 19:54

Come on England!

moofolk · 14/06/2019 16:05

That's a more difficult group position for England now too

moofolk · 14/06/2019 16:03

Managed to get the second half on my phone.

Blimey those decisions do go against Scotland but i thought they might pull it ha j there.

I know it came from a poor defence but fair play to Clelland that was a hell of a shot.

LimitIsUp · 14/06/2019 15:44

Goal!!!!

LimitIsUp · 14/06/2019 15:42

Decisions not going Scotland's way Sad

nickymanchester · 14/06/2019 15:19

I'm at work at the moment so I'll have to wait until I get home but the Scotland v Japan game sounds as though it's interesting

LimitIsUp · 14/06/2019 15:10

Japan has certainly played the better football whereas Scotland have been disappointing

moofolk · 14/06/2019 14:51

I'm in a soft play cafe eating nachos and catching up on the live updates! It does seem that Scotland have had a couple of harsh decisions but Japan are bloody good

LimitIsUp · 14/06/2019 14:36

Never a penalty!

LimitIsUp · 14/06/2019 14:29

Bit lacklustre so far

LimitIsUp · 14/06/2019 14:22

Ooops!

moofolk · 14/06/2019 14:13

Come on Scotland!

VortexofBloggery · 13/06/2019 23:41

Sorry to have missed the game. GO MATILDAS!

What about the women's world cup?!

I think the goal should have stood, because the woman who scored the OG wasn't impeded or hindered by the Australian player. She hadn't even seen her, so to me it wasn't an offside incident, because she didn't hinder play.

See she clearly hindered play by being there and I don't believe that the Brazilian hadn't seen her, she'd have left the ball for the goalie.

Having said that, she should have left it if she knew Kerr was offside and definitely shouldn't have heeded the ball into her own goal.

I think it's harsh but I'd have awarded the goal too I think (but as agreed with what's already been said in that I'm glad it wasn't my decision to make!).
