A pleasant surprise

NC for this as very outing.

I came across a number of Tweets from a user whose profile described him as a serving officer with the Met. This is the complaint I sent yesterday:

Jon Killen, a emergency response officer in the MPS and LGBT+ officer, is issuing Tweets that I consider misogynist. His Twitter account (@LDNResponseCop) clearly identifies him professionally, so he cannot argue that he's only offering personal opinions. I cannot think his social media presence is doing anything good for the Met. It seems highly unprofessional. Certainly I would have less confidence were I involved in an incident and had to deal with Jon Killen than I would in a generic officer. Please look at what he's saying - and the response from many LGBT Twitter users who find his Tweets offensive. The police must be seen to be impartial.

I got a call from an inspector this morning. He'd gone through the officer's Tweets and agreed with me. He said it wasn't a disciplinary matter as there were no personally offensive Tweets but that the Tweets definitely overstepped the bounds of what a serving police officer should be saying on social media. A conversation was in order and he would be talking to the officer soon.

Only a small step, but I was pleased the Met seems to have taken it seriously.

I came to this thread to check it was real and not a joke. I quickly learned it is most definitely real! Someone genuinely complained about that good news tweet!

so you didn't come to learn and be informed then? You came here as a joke; one that you could back to your allies and laugh and get outraged about.

I think if you stuck around you'd actually learn a lot. There are some of the absolute best women here. The most informed; intelligent; educated; experienced. Give it a go. However, more than that, try reading some materials ( plenty of links on here), or some literature.

This is a chat board. A place for people to come together to share information and to organise.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/06/2019 19:42

Before you go, Zoe, these assaults that you mentioned? any more on them?

In all honesty trying to justify my womanhood to you comes under the banner of “taking homework assignments from strangers” and my days of writing essays for free (or at great personal expense in the case of being a student) are far behind me I’m afraid
Yeah, no we dobt want an essay, 5 pithy one liners about a woman is?

And it's not your womanhood we are asking about, its jy, its Rachel McK, its Madigan, its especially pips/Philip as hes only a woman part time. Yes explain pips.

Oh no!

There´s a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird
Is popping out to say "cuckoo"
Cuckoo, cuckoo
Regretfully they tell us Cuckoo, cuckoo
But firmly they compel us Cuckoo, cuckoo
To say goodbye
Cuckoo!
To you
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu
So long, farewell, au revoir, auf wiedersehen...

Women’s Studies brand of feminism

Yes that's right. Feminism is about the position of women as a class. a class based on their sex. Inter-sectional feminism, by contrast, just sound like a load of dense bollocks. Almost intentionally so.

And feminism has always included all women - whatever their social class, race or religion.

in contrast Inter-sectional feminism seems to identify black women, for example, in very racist ways -as being some kind of sub-group of women, in much argument that people have attempted to introduce here.

I identify with women - regardless of their differences. What unites us all is our position as women in a male dominated society. Biological sex is not a social construct. Gender is.

Zoecb · 04/06/2019 19:38

Argumentative mobs do have a pack mentality, yes. Very deliberate choice of word.

Zoecb · 04/06/2019 19:37

I came to this thread to check it was real and not a joke. I quickly learned it is most definitely real! Someone genuinely complained about that good news tweet!

Surely it’s a board for mums or it would be called femalesnet?
(To be fair either could conceivably sounds like a porn site for those with a breeding fetish.)

I will stick with my inclusive intersectional feminism thanks, it’s a lot more relevant to me and my communities in today’s world.

SophoclesTheFox · 04/06/2019 19:35

Do you even know how your words betray you, Zoe? You’ve dehumanised us by describing us as a pack, a word commonly used for a group of animals.

Also, your dismissal of second wave feminism and mumsnet as 4 chan with prams sits ill with your alleged understanding of internalised misogyny- step one in that is dismissing the experiences of you foremothers, your mother, and everyone else’s mother. how did you miss that bit in your studies?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/06/2019 19:35

Thanks LangCLeg I did for my own amusement, but it is nice to know someone noticed it Smile

I thought the double hit of We Are Pack was quite good, no... it was fucking amazing. I never thought I'd get 7of9 and Phyllis into the same quote Grin And look, I swored.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 04/06/2019 19:35

Zoe, every time you want to write 'T*s', just replace it with 'witches'

Grin

or 'disobedient women'. you don't feel any mystical kinship with them I expect, do you Zoe?

JackyHolyoake · 04/06/2019 19:34

Erm, I’m not using witches as a substitute for transphobes

"Transphobe", just like "transphobia" are meaningless, fictitious terms.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/06/2019 19:33

thats better

HumberElla · 04/06/2019 19:33

Right I’ve stopped laughing now.

Breathes

You shouldn’t laugh at men of course, because I hear they are afraid of women laughing at them.

What were you saying again about the ‘bra mansplain rapport’ thing Zoe? Actually no don’t, I’m not sure my pelvic floor is up to it!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/06/2019 19:33

Why is there only one *
*
*
**

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/06/2019 19:32

Use transphobes then

Just no more *** for the love of god

Justhadathought · 04/06/2019 19:32

I really don’t, I hate arguments, it’s all very tiresome but for some reason I am stubborn today and have been replying to the whole pack on my own. I think I might need someone to cut me off!

So why do you come onto a board on which you know people come together to discuss a particular shared view and experience? Having been closed down everywhere else? We're not ignorant of your view. Quite the contrary! However we are never going to agree with you so long as you attempt to insult, pressurise or insist. You are wasting your time; mainly because you don't want to understand - because to understand would totally undermine the ideology you seek to live and express.

The ideology you seek to express is in direct contrast to the reality that we all know exists. Trans women are not women. Women have their own unique position as a sex class. That is what unites us. Even if we are all shades of colour, creed and background.

There can be no common ground except to say that we must surely all agree with basic civil rights for all human beings.

Zoecb · 04/06/2019 19:31

Erm, I’m not using witches as a substitute for transphobes. I don’t think trans witches would be impressed!

I’ll just post some Verboten terms a few times...

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/06/2019 19:29

Pack?

Ive been as good as gold on this thread...its just the continued thats grating

JackyHolyoake · 04/06/2019 19:29

have been replying to the whole pack on my own

"Pack"?

... could you be any more insulting?

Mumsnet is a community for females, Zoe ... if you cannot cope with that perhaps it is wiser that you take your leave from it.

LangCleg · 04/06/2019 19:28

Maybe I’ll post a bunch of swear words in my next post so I get banned!

What makes you think swearing gets you banned from MN? It's renowned as a sweary website. Are we not womaning in a sufficiently unsweary manner?
