....they still scream "transphobia!"

UCLA have said that they will install a number of unisex bathrooms throughout campus. These will have floor to ceiling partitions to protect privacy. Now students are claiming that this is transphobia as it implies that trans people are all peeping toms. They get what they claim they want, but they want it on their terms not ours.

I see you

Oh ffs lol.

LimeKiwi · 31/05/2019 22:22

There's only one group that demand no debate
You general you kind of are though if you straight away piss rip and pile on.
Jessica has just said as much but in not as many words - "I'm not debating, why would I?
That's my point being made for me really.

CharlieParley · 31/05/2019 22:22

Identical? Is every single biologically born woman identical to one another? We are obviously very different to each other, we are not identical.

No, we are not identical. Apart from being born human and female, there is not one experience that all female humans have in common. However, there are experiences that only women and girls qua females can have.

The male human does not menstruate or ovulate, does not have medical investigations if he doesn't do either, worry about getting pregnant from rape, need an abortion, has breasts ironed flat or labia and clitoris cut off to keep him pure, is not forced into marriage aged 12, is not fired for being pregnant or demoted after giving birth.

No male human knows what it feels like when a nine-month-fetus seems to want to box its way out of the womb that shelters it or when another human being can survive entirely on the food his body produces.

(Not an exhaustive list)

While not all women qua adult human females share these or any of the other exclusively female experiences, enough of us share some of these experiences to make womanhood a collective experience, especially as lived by the females of one region, culture and time period.

For instance, 96 to 97% of women menstruate, 80% of UK women become mothers, 70% experience sexual harassment, 40% male sexual or physical violence and - as an example for the unpaid labour burdens that continue fall disproportionately on females - UK women aged 45 to 54 women are four times as likely as men to reduce working hours to care for a loved one. And so on.

Many of us share some, many or most of these and other exclusively female experiences.

Womanhood - the sum of our experiences as females in a male-dominated world - is the state of being a woman. A state which is based on having any number of exclusively female experiences, in common with billions of other women throughout the past and present. It is therefore something that only women qua females can experience.

Men, including those claiming womanhood, can of course share some of our experiences that are not rooted in female biology but that are nonetheless more typically encountered by the female of the species. That doesn't make them women or their experience womanhood.

Herland · 31/05/2019 22:21

@LimeKiwi

This is also not debate and is shutting down conversation -

Posters: Can you explain what a women is to you?

LimeKiwi and Mandel: You are all really mean!

Posters: Producing policy based on the existence of a soul sounds like religious dogma and public policy surely shouldn't be based on religious, unscientific dogma?

Mandela: I'm going home

LimeKiwi: You are all really mean!

You don't want debate. You don't want to acknowledge other points of view. But you are passively aggressively attempting to gaslight us all into thinking we are bad people. I see you.

Oh no LimeKiwi. There's only one group that demanded #nodebate - and that's TRAs / MRAs. They are the reason we are in this mess as they have bullied & silenced all opposition and demand that men's rights to access unclothed women, vulnerable women, women in vulnerable situations in prison / needing intimate care are unchallengeable. Transphobia and T**F are used to silence women / doxx them, get them sacked and so on. Only complete compliance from all women is acceptable.
Challenging someone on a feminist board trying to insist that TWAW bears no resemblance to the aggressive terrorism against women of the trans lobby.

OldCrone · 31/05/2019 22:05

Must be where the phrase no debate really comes in

You do realise it's TRAs who say 'no debate', don't you? Not us.

I assume that's where you're coming from as well, since you seem unable to answer any questions.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/05/2019 22:00

I’m not debating observable material reality. Why would I?

JessicaWakefieldSV · 31/05/2019 21:59

If people listened to people with other views

We’ve heard the ‘ female souls’ bullshit plenty. We don’t have to be nice about it if we think it’s bullshit

LimeKiwi · 31/05/2019 21:54

If people listened to people with other views instead of straight away piling in to back slap each other and take the piss, you'd find people would more.
All the piss ripping because she mentioned souls - you general you make it clear you really don't want to listen to anything else.
Must be where the phrase no debate really comes in - I used to think it meant you're not allowed to discuss a topic.
I think now that it must mean there really isn't a discussion to be had, it's impossible as either extreme side won't accept the other.
So where does that leave you general you?
Stalemate or something Confused

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 31/05/2019 21:48

Mandela got a sigh literally straight away, don't blame her not wanting to really!

Still no answers then.
It's almost as if discussion was never the intention isn't it.

LimeKiwi · 31/05/2019 21:47

Mandela got a sigh literally straight away, don't blame her not wanting to really!

failingatlife · 31/05/2019 21:45

limekiwi several posters asked questions of Mandala which she was unable to answer.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 31/05/2019 21:44

The problem of course comes when the Back and forth part of discussion is ignored, it tends to be like playing Tennis with a 6 year old....

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 31/05/2019 21:43

How is that a discussion

It would help if you and Mandela actually attempted to answer my questions, see it tends to take answers to create discussion.

LimeKiwi · 31/05/2019 21:39

Of course there's nothing wrong with discussion, I'm aware it's a discussion board.
Seeing as the very first comment after was a "sigh" and nothing else not to mention everything else, you general you make it clear from the off you really don't want to listen to other views.
Which isn't discussing, it's just sigh, idiot, grey rock, wipe your tears , grinny face etc.
How is that a discussion, that's a weird discussion is it not. When everyone just piles in straight away to take the piss and belittle anyone not taking the majority view

failingatlife · 31/05/2019 21:14

Limekiwi it's a discussion forum where people state their view and others question them about it. It's not other posters fault if a poster has no evidence, facts or logic to back up their opinion. I'm at a loss as to what you think discussion forums areConfused Do you think we should all just state a view and not discuss or ask questions? Would be a pretty boring discussion, don't you think?

Michelleoftheresistance · 31/05/2019 20:48

Can only comment with my personal experience since learning about the subject on MN.

If you've seriously reversed belief to go back to trans ideology because GC women's manners aren't pretty enough then you never got the issues with trans ideology in the first place. Believe what you want, I don't care in the least. I'm pro freedom of belief and freedom of speech and meeting everyone's needs, I'm GC Smile

I'm just here to protect women's rights.

OldCrone · 31/05/2019 20:42

I get the feeling that somewhere along the line we’ve encouraged debate (in schools? in the media?) to the point where opinions are considered to be concrete facts. And people genuinely cannot distinguish between the two.

I think it's called postmodernism. There are no objective truths, only opinions. I'm a scientist, though, so happy to be corrected if I've got that wrong.

LimeKiwi · 31/05/2019 20:39

JustanotherWoman I'm a regular poster in AIBU, have been for years now.
Thanks for the suggestion though

JustAnotherWoman · 31/05/2019 20:31

Limekiwi I strongly advise you go take a look at the aibu board before you complain posters are being rude to you, your view of womanhood is stuck in the 1950s

RespecttheCountryMember · 31/05/2019 20:29

Not a hunt! I'm anti-hunting. It's a -hint- !

RespecttheCountryMember · 31/05/2019 20:27

Here's a hunt, Mandela :
Female sheep: Ewe.
Female deer: Doe
Young female horse: Fully.
Adult female horse: Mare.
Young female human: Girl.
Adult female human: Wmn.
Can you guess?

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 31/05/2019 20:22

@LordProfFekko I'm all for the cause but I'm not letting any of you IN me, whether you're in "girl mode" or not.Grin

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 31/05/2019 20:16

Aw bollocks. Just wandered through twitter and saw bloody Wagamama now has gender bolocksy neutral loos. Not unisex but gender neutral. For trans women - because noone else wants them.
