Ok I wasn’t sure whether to post this in a more general section or here but has anyone else been following the Moby controversy with his initial autobiography and weird follow ups?

Most sane men seem to go to desperate lengths to deny being a pervert or their predatory past times but here is a guy who had a relatively good reputation as a lefty with no previous accusations against him who seems to be determined to tell everyone how much of a wrong un he was and is! Is the bloke going mad or just totally lacking self awareness of how bad he’s coming across. It’s like he’s determined for everyone to hate him or something

Oh you've come to my rescue. Thanks!

Here is a share token for the Caitlin Moran article. I hope the Times doesn't track its subscribers' use of share tokens. I might be blacklisted!

Ugh. It reminds me of when I was younger, you have been on a date with someone or kissed them and they tell their mates you slept with them.

Except that he is in his fifties, he actually wrote it in a book and there was literally nothing between him and NP.

What a sad, delusional cockwomble.

Whatevermission · 25/05/2019 05:38

Yeah, Eminem had him pegged from the get-go Grin. He's gross

Goosefoot · 25/05/2019 01:24

Guys like that really rub me the wrong way. When I was in the workforce I worked with a lot of men, and most of them were what you might call unreformed, and mostly I liked them and got along with them really well. And I dated some and they were actually quite nice to date for the most part. They never creeped me out the way the lefty vegan smooth guys do.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/05/2019 00:08

He is a pathetic weasel

Sadly so many men are so entitled any women that find attractive who pays them attention they make the decision that the women is interested

I glad NP has called him out it happens so often

I remember reading an interview with Moby in a mid-1990s music mag (maybe Select?) where he mentioned apropos of absolutely nothing that walnut oil, as well as being nice in salad dressing, is an excellent sexual lubricant.

My “ew, WTF” reaction has stayed with me. It wasn’t that he mentioned sex, it was more the way it was kind of gratuitously, Partridge-ishly dropped in, like “I know you wouldn’t think it to look at me, readers, but I am a Sex Person.”

pachyderm · 24/05/2019 23:32

Wouldn't have thought he was on a Savile level, just a common or garden perv. We didn't have the gloriously dismissive language we have now, as his sort have revealed themselves over the years. Okey dokey wokey blokey. As someone pointed out, the likes of Eminem were spewing out their messed up misogyny and psychic baggage and mummy issues all over the place but at least they were honest about it. I have no idea whether this is true or not, but on a gut level, observing Eminem over the years, I got much less of a creep vibe off him than Moby.

Guerlainista · 24/05/2019 22:27

He comes across as a complete creep. Natalie Portman gave him short shrift, didnt she?

Urgh.

beeyourself · 24/05/2019 22:21

I'm going to an event we're he talks about his new book. Should be interesting now...

nauticant · 24/05/2019 22:11

I was just going to post about Savile. Before he died I assumed there were two groups of people: those who knew nothing and those who had looked into the nature of Savile and had become instantly aware that there was something very nasty indeed. After he died I was astonished to find that there was a third group, those who seemed to know much about Savile but were apparently completely in the dark that there was anything wrong.

Babblepook · 24/05/2019 22:09

I’m sorry one can be a ‘creep’ but that doesn’t make them on a par with child sex abusers. Why will there be ‘more serious allegations’? Maybe he’s just a twat that thinks a lot of himself and tries it on with women.

Caucho · 24/05/2019 22:04

Shouldn’t be surprised though. Just look at Rolf Harris. Was also going to mention Jimmy Saville but he was obvious to me after that Louis Theroux doc

I don’t know if it’s because I’m a man just found it fascinating and so odd that he actively attempt to draw attention to this. It’s not as if he was subject to any accusations publicly beforehand.

An yes some people are too good to be true. Oh look at him he’s great. He cares about animals, is anti racist and vegan and calls out Eminem for his misogynistic rap lyrics. These guys are far worse than the old fashioned white van man making some inappropriate cat calls as they claim moral superiority. Like that Eninem example. Got no idea about Eminem but probably behaved far better than that fucking hypocrite

TheSpottedZebra · 24/05/2019 21:57

I can't read that Times article - and I'm no teenage editor of a music mag - but even I knew that Moby has had an awful reputation. Always has. Just a common or garden creep, with fame, money and power, who was also vegan.

nauticant · 24/05/2019 21:50

I thought his dodgy nature in this regard had been generally known for many years.

Caitlin Moran did a find job in today's The Times:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/caitlin-morans-celebrity-watch-when-moby-met-natalie-portman-0bjm8qkkw

The section about Moby is at the end and is cut off. No great exposé, just an appropriately cutting summary. Maybe some kind person will come along with a share token.

FermatsTheorem · 24/05/2019 21:48

The whole thing reminds me of that scene in the film Juno. She spends time hanging out with the couple who're going to adopt her baby (they're planning an open adoption - supposedly possible in the US, though I'm not sure how often it happens in practice). She thinks of the bloke as a father/elder brother figure and is really enjoying hanging out with him and playing guitar - right up till he hits on her.

Same creepy vibe coming off Moby, in spades. Which is a shame because back in the day I liked his music.

Caucho · 24/05/2019 21:37

If he tried this on with famous actresses and singers in their own right fuck knows what he was like with the plebs and fans. I foresee some more serious accusations coming out but don’t want to be libellous. Just making an educated guess

OP posts:
Tattletale · 24/05/2019 21:35

That article. What a load of self indulgent tripe!

OhHolyJesus · 24/05/2019 21:30

What a total wanker.

RuffleCrow · 24/05/2019 21:27

I hope the Lana Del Rey story is true. Grin

foreverhanging · 24/05/2019 21:23

That article is just...... wowwww

RuffleCrow · 24/05/2019 21:16

Another yawny creepy vegany misogynistic woke bro. Ick.

I do like the fact that the world has finally woken up to the fact that being Woke and being a generally decent human being are not in any way interchangeable.

MashedSpud · 24/05/2019 21:15

The only good thing about that book is the proceeds go to an animal charity.

Caucho · 24/05/2019 21:13

I don’t think he did much shagging either. He seems to resent the fact that despite being mega wealthy and famous women still didn’t want to sleep with him (when it should be a piece of piss to get laid as a rock star).

The Guardian article was good and why I started this but unfortunately they changed a lot of the content and the headline after originally publishing it for some inexplicable reason. Originally referred to misogynist and woke ‘Beta men’ and they amended it to nice guys or something similar
