Ok I wasn’t sure whether to post this in a more general section or here but has anyone else been following the Moby controversy with his initial autobiography and weird follow ups?

Most sane men seem to go to desperate lengths to deny being a pervert or their predatory past times but here is a guy who had a relatively good reputation as a lefty with no previous accusations against him who seems to be determined to tell everyone how much of a wrong un he was and is! Is the bloke going mad or just totally lacking self awareness of how bad he’s coming across. It’s like he’s determined for everyone to hate him or something

Looks like Moby is feeling the backlash - his book tour has been cancelled

The apology should any one want to read it.

I don't feel that this alters my feelings about the doubling down. It feels like a non-apology a PR piece to get out of a sticky situation.

I have to say that this whole business has made me introspect about my own past behaviours and I'm ashamed to say that I have behaved just like he has.

Basically a mix of self aggrandisement, self denial, purposefully misinterpreting a situation and reinforcing self delusion and lies.

Not painting a good picture of myself here.

I think this has highlighted a common behaviour in men, one I hadn't really realised that I had been doing, mixing fantasy and reality and then reinforcing it.

I still find that I want to minimise and mitigate my behaviour because it's an uncomfortable realisation, but I'll work at not doing so.

Overall, Moby has gone down massively in my estimation (much like I have about myself) and this us yet another thing to add to my list to ensure I support my dds over when It happens to them.

Looks like he's issued an "apology"

powershowerforanhour · 26/05/2019 05:18

Sounds like he got his head flushed down the toilet a lot in secondary school and will be trying to make up for it for the rest of his life.

disneyspendingmoney · 25/05/2019 22:00

Like most blokes his whole life is proped up by ensblers giving him the time and space to massage his own ego.

Caucho · 25/05/2019 20:47

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with ‘unattractive’ people having the audacity to even contemplate or worse still action trying it on with someone who is good looking in how we define them as a society. I find the out of your league and ‘punching’ thing a bit distasteful as if you should be grateful for someone deigning to find you attractive. That said you do need to know how life works in general and that the bookies odds suggest a 20 year old stunner is not going to be interested in bald 45 year old with a pot belly. It’s how you approach things and act which is important.

Desperate unattractive guys hitting on young attractive women. It goes on day after day. Then, when rejected they turn on them. He’s doing what every dick head bloke does. Except they are usually younger. Sad

GraceMarks · 25/05/2019 19:48

It's funny, but he was considered extremely uncool back at the height of his fame. Loads of people owned a copy of Play but you'd be hard pushed to find anyone who would admit to liking him as a person. He was a sell-out, and there was the matter of those cringeworthy essays that were in the CD box. Everyone thought he was a bit of a twat.

Now that sort of self-consciously pretentious wokeness gets you loads of internet fanboys, it seems.

Upzadaizy · 25/05/2019 19:29

Friend of mine who knows the rock& roll scene on east coast US said to me once "He's a pig. He's slept with any woman he can get."

I like his music, but I"m not going to do the fan adulation that a lot of people - many many young men interestingly - seem to give him. His website messageboards are amazing for the total fanboying.

Guerlainista · 25/05/2019 18:22

What I’m coming away with from this whole creepy episode (and I didn’t need creepy Moby to teach me this) is that it’s fucking creepy as hell when older guys of any ilk (but somehow especially the slightly inadequate ones that can only go off their fame or wealth) hit on girls young enough to be their daughters.

Just stop it, you creeps.

Freespeecher · 25/05/2019 18:07

Moby soon to get a 'present from Mathilda'.

disneyspendingmoney · 25/05/2019 16:14

If he'd gone "yep she's right, I was showing off", then we'd have more respect and it would have been forgotten about. He's now placed himself firmly in the Trump camp of mysogyny and self centered arrogance and worse denial.

One if the realisations I'm getting from Moby, is that we're (men) not taught how our creepy entitled behaviour affects people. and how not to do it in the first place. I've had to learn from my own mistakes and poor behaviour.

I say this because it is a very common complaint about male behaviour. and all he's doing is enabling the self denial of the creepy entitled bloke.

Dljlr · 25/05/2019 13:54

it was kind of gratuitously, Partridge-ishly dropped in, like “I know you wouldn’t think it to look at me, readers, but I am a Sex Person.”

This made me proper lol Grin Brilliantly put

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/05/2019 13:45

I’m sure most of us on here have had this type of encounter with a man making assumptions for us and not bothering to read signals as they simply don’t feel they need to

Creepy entitled men too many of them around and too many justify their actions as the general underlying belief is men can’t really help themselves Angry Angry Hmm

Disneyyou appear to have posted your letter to moby, on the Mumsnet feminist board

It was a good post.

disneyspendingmoney · 25/05/2019 13:30

Whatevermission because he is not interested in the meaning of it, he's shown that by his current behaviour.

nauticant · 25/05/2019 13:20

(In case that's unclear, misread it as Whateveremission and thought "yep, that's about right".)

nauticant · 25/05/2019 13:18

Ha, that's a fair comment.

I feel your username is somewhat appropriate on a thread about Moby Whatevermission.

God I'd forgotten about those disgusting "count downs". And what the hell is wrong with Moby, nice guy creep.

GraceMarks · 25/05/2019 11:50

Natalie Portman has had so much creepy, inappropriate shit to deal with from such a young age. I can remember when Leon came out, grown men were blatantly and openly lusting over her, despite her character in that film being 12 years old. I think she was a bit older in real life, maybe 14, but still underage and she was very much styled as a little girl. So the fact that she has featured as the fantasy girlfriend of this older, right-on man does make sense in a sick sort of way. Men like that were thinking of her as this precociously sexual child-woman pretty much from when she first became famous. I saw her comment elsewhere that there was an online countdown to when she became "legal" Angry so that men could wank over her without having to think of themselves as paedophiles.

disneyspendingmoney · 25/05/2019 11:28

Transparency first
I'm a 52yo bald, bearded, speccy man (+ lone parent to 2 dds under 13, primary carer 100% residency). Progressive, Social justice & Vegetarian (one of the dds isn't). Yep, I rock the moby look I'm quite the fanboi. Still am, for the moment.

Moby, mate, you are so doing it wrong, I read the Guardian article. Man, you have got it so wrong. In a long rambling way let me explain.

In 2000, I was working in broadcast media in West London, actually I worked for three of the big players. We've been in the same building, I've even stopped you in the foyer to go "your music's great man - f4€king awesome", you went "yeh, Cheers thanks" in an utterly indifferent non committal way and I put my arm around your should and gave you a manly hug squeeze. You looked a bit wide eyed freaked and smiled it off. You know that moment in your life as a celebrity, when a fanboy gets too close for comfort - yeh that feeling. Hold on to that memory mate for the rest of this.

I'll freely admit, I've hit on women much younger, back when I didn't have responsibilities, There is that moment, as a man when your chatting to a 20 something and your in your 30s when you think, "Yeh I'll ask you out", but then as a self aware adult (not a celebrity) you read the change in temperature. What has gone from a pleasant conversation to an uncomfortable situation for the young woman, because I oversteped a boundary and she has to extracate herself with the minimum of bother. Believe me, Moby mate, we men are bothersome to women because they are unsure what level of manchild temper tantrum we will have.

you're having one right now, Ms. Portman is well within her rights to define the interaction as she sees fit, actually that under plays her rights. Respect how she feels about it, not how your ego wants the world to know about it.

Remember that feeling I asked you to hold on to. Now use that and mentally emitionalky switch places with Ms. Portman.

Please respect her and please introspect your role as a man in this.

Finally, on a separate note, when I was 18, I was having a moan to a nurse who was very feminist. She looked me in the eyes and said "You are a white man you have all the privelege in the world, you have nothing to worry about". Her world's have lived with me to this day. Maybe Moby consider what your privelege is doing right now and how to use it for the better.

Pinkarsedfly · 25/05/2019 11:27

I’m shocked. I thought he was gay.

justju · 25/05/2019 11:16

That photo! That's the "I need a security team" smile of someone next to a crazed fan.

Bluestitch · 25/05/2019 11:14

Apparently one of his favourite games was getting his penis out at parties and seeing how many people he could touch with it. I guess he was feeling left out of MeToo.
