Breitbart.com This is a bit of good news. Ben Carson’s department of housing and urban development has decided to restore single sex spaces for women in homeless shelters amid growing Democratic pressure for women to share their sleeping and bathroom spaces with men who say they have the ‘gender identity’ of a woman.

Unless of course you want me to believe that there are many squillions of trans people around me every day and I don't notice.

This has become one of the "truths" of TRA ideology. I see it all over the place now.

R0wantrees · 24/05/2019 09:30

Alexis Lightcap is also part of a US challenge which is likely to go to the Supreme Court over the protection of single sex changing rooms in school toilets and changing rooms.

Alexis describes what happened to she when she walked into a school bathroom and saw a man in there:

Where can I get me one of those Grin

Can you seriously not see the flaw of reasoning in this statement? Seriously?

Well, that is about as convincing as Poverello House administrators tell Action News federal law says they have to treat a person identifying as a woman as a woman -- and there's no way to test whether it's true."

Possession of a penis is pretty easy to spot, once in showers... so there could be some mitigation there... but somehow it is the women who are punished, removed.

Prior to the showers, I'd have to repeat, most trans do not pass. I don't see the flaw in that reasoning. Unless of course you want me to believe that there are many squillions of trans people around me every day and I don't notice.

I think group showers are used in some shelters to help prevent use of drugs?

As to tribalism, news sources, left v. right, I think Towel is right on.

It is HIGHLY insulting to a group of intelligent women capable of independent, critical thought to suggest that we can only obtain our news from "approved" sources.

You're implying that we really can't be trusted to come to our own conclusions or see through propaganda. Thank you, Father Patriarchy, but I'll pass and give you a big middle finger. (Akin to the idea of a lady brain...) I can easily figure out what is crap on Breitbart and what is legit, just like I can with the NY Times, Washington Post, etc. And, perhaps, if the left were to stop this madness and start reporting with less bias, I would be very happy to resume my readership of such publications.

OccasionalKite · 24/05/2019 02:03

It's horrendous that they've allowed a man into this supposedly women's shelter. A travesty.

But I must ask - who the fuck demands that, "the shelter requires them to shower in groups"? Why are women forced into group showers in the first place, let alone group showers with men?

Ongoing Califonia US legal case after vulnerable homeless women alleged to have been sexually harrassed in shhowers by male:

'Shelter forced women to shower with person who identified as a transgender woman and sexually harassed them, lawsuit says'
(extract)
Nine women homeless women signed on to a lawsuit against Naomi's House and its parent company, the Poverello House, saying the last place they could go to feel safe is now dangerous because they're forced to shower with a transgender woman.

The Naomi House bills itself as a gentle haven of healing and a safe haven for single, homeless women, but a new lawsuit says it put a lot of women in harm's way in a very vulnerable spot -- the shower.

It says the shelter requires them to shower in groups, and it opened its doors to a person who identified themself as a transgender woman who made lewd and sexually inappropriate comments, and leered at them while they were naked.

"This is the biggest fear they bring up, that you're going to have people who may not even be transgender in bathrooms and settings where people are naked and their privacy rights are being violated," said Peter Kapetan, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the women.

Poverello House administrators tell Action News federal law says they have to treat a person identifying as a woman as a woman -- and there's no way to test whether it's true." (coninues)

BickerinBrattle · 23/05/2019 22:32

that should read “an end to legal marital rape.”

BickerinBrattle · 23/05/2019 22:31

The fact that there are shelters of any kind for women is a result of long struggle by the feminists who came before, the same feminists that brought you reproductive rights, the right to job and educational opportunities, and to legal marital rape, even your right to have a credit card not underwritten by a man.

Males are not now entitled to the fruits of that long labour. The male taking of the fruits of female labour is the very definition of patriarchal opppression.

I’ll fight side-by-side with TW for shelters of their own or for safer male shelters. I’ll never support their taking any bed built and set aside for women.

I've been watching this board make more and more disturbing moral compromises in the service of its obsession, in league with people you wouldn't touch with a bargepole on any other issue, so don't lecture me about tribalism.

And I’ve seen the other side defend the rights of rapists to access women’s prisons; even call those who refused to refer to Ian Huntley - who isn’t even trans - bigots for calling him ‘he’.

I can’t stand Breitbart but when they hire a child rapist as their election agent we can start talking about moral compasses.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 21:34

in league with people you wouldn't touch with a bargepole on any other issue, so don't lecture me about tribalism.

You don’t understand what tribalism is do you? Nobody here is ‘in league’ with anyone. We happen to agree on this issue, should we pretend otherwise? Why? I’m not a member of any political party and never will be. I’ll agree with parties on some topics and not others. I have no interest in left v right politics and having to choose one party to agree with on all things. It’s very simplistic to think that left=good and right=bad, and it’s also just not true. This board also isn’t just for left wing people, there are all kinds of views represented. The left have let women down in a significant and damaging way that may have long term effects on our rights. Left wing media are also culpable in this erosion of our rights. I have absolutely no loyalty to the left anymore.

teawamutu · 23/05/2019 21:28

Moral compromises. You have to be fucking joking. Women have been sexually assaulted because of the moral compromises you have made.

Fucking brilliant, birds, thank you. Committing that to memory for the next time someone trots that tired old shite last me.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 23/05/2019 21:28

I've been watching this board... Another one of the tedious monitors desperate to instruct women in what to say and do. How come we're of such fascination to them?

I so wish they'd head over to monitor and hector kiwi farms, Breitbart and other male dominated forums / places. Yet here they are... on Mumsnet... Confused

Outanabout · 23/05/2019 21:26

Be fair, he's just worried we'll compromise our integrity. Very keen on us being all moral and upstanding 'e is 😂

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 21:24

Tribalism is the enemy of thoughtful debate.

feelingverylazytoday · 23/05/2019 21:09

The precedents for societies where people have to carry documements everywhere proving stuff about themselves are generally quite bad
You mean like when people have to show a document to prove they're old enough to buy alcohol or lottery tickets? Doesn't seem to cause any problems.

OvaHere · 23/05/2019 20:57

I've been watching this board make more and more disturbing moral compromises in the service of its obsession

Says the side that are happy for any woman or girl, no matter how vulnerable, to be collateral damage in order to further an agenda of male sexual rights.

Destinysdaughter · 23/05/2019 20:42

See this is the problem that we face on terms of left v right which was brought up at the WPUK meeting on Monday. The left has badly let women down by pandering to the trans ideology so we are now in the uncomfortable position of having to align ourselves to the right on certain issues in order to protect women’s rights.

FloralBunting · 23/05/2019 20:39

And can we just point out who has come on a thread about women being allowed to retain a small amount of single sex spaces and presented it as a bad thing because they don't like the politics of the man who protected those spaces.

Fuck that. Women first. Always.

FloralBunting · 23/05/2019 20:37

It's clearly a huge problem, what with the significant proportion of female born people attacking women in female spaces and elsewhere. Not a week goes by that I don't hear of a woman, identifying as a man, attacking other women.

/fairy stories to get women to relinquish all their boundaries.

NonExistentFox · 23/05/2019 20:33

This is of course ignoring the fact that a shelter would be permitted to eject such a man (once identified), whereas they were not permitted to eject men-identifying as women under the Obama-era rules. And that if official documents correctly reflected sex (as they should) this abuse would be far harder.

Yep and what about everywhere else? The precedents for societies where people have to carry documents everywhere proving stuff about themselves are generally quite bad.

If Breitbart reported that Ben Carson thinks people should be kind to animals would you start torturing puppies?

You can agree with people on some issues and not on others. You can even agree with the outcome when you know the sentiment behind it was disagreeable.

This line is getting desperately thin. Breitbart is not about fostering kindness and understanding, and the ends do not justify the means because the ends are ultimately determined by the means. I've been watching this board make more and more disturbing moral compromises in the service of its obsession, in league with people you wouldn't touch with a bargepole on any other issue, so don't lecture me about tribalism.

Most trans people don't pass.

Can you seriously not see the flaw of reasoning in this statement? Seriously? Grin

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 23/05/2019 20:17

Didn't Haddock say he was going to do that to prove a point - pretend to be a transman and try and use the women's changing room at the gym? Such a creep. Most trans people don't pass. Women pass better as men than the reverse, but I've met lots of FtM transitioners and they were still pretty easy to spot. If someone who looked indistinguishably male rocked up and claimed to be female it's hardly rocket science to ask for some proof.
