Spoiled ballots?

As far as I can see there is no point to the election on Thursday - the MEPs will have nothing to do wish I'd stood. So I am seriously considering using it as an opportunity to spoil my ballot with Woman - Adult Human Female.

Any thoughts?

Ok so to be clear to you, I am not ‘policing’ what people can say, or vote. I am saying I find the manipulation and guilt tripping on the thread annoying and crap on a feminism board. I’m allowed to respond to others posts without being accused of ‘policing’ things.

Women can vote, not vote or spoil votes and not have let down the suffragette. Ok.

PantsyMcPantsface · 23/05/2019 11:52

I voted Lib Dem - cannot bring myself to spoil a ballot paper with how strongly I oppose the whole Brexit shit show and Change UK would be seen as endorsing the awful Soubry around here so no way... website says I should vote Green tactically but that's a step too far.

nauticant · 23/05/2019 11:41

This is the kind of discussion where sarcasm can really cause a mischief. (Not sarcasm.)

Just to be clear my post was being annoyed at people policing the thread and declaring what kind of posting was and was not permitted. I really dislike the flinging around of accusations of emotional blackmail, shaming, bullying etc. (Also not sarcasm.)

I'm in the non-spoil faction but people can do what they want. (Not sarcasm as well.)

Oh dear @Helmetbymidnight . And we have so many battles to fight.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 11:35

goading not guarding!

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 11:35

Helmetbymidnight I find your sarcasm and guarding to be really uncalled for on the feminism boards. It’s certainly not going to encourage anyone to vote, if that’s your intention.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 11:34

Helmet, actually there are more than two of us who find the emotional manipulation on here to be OTT. RTFT.

People who spoil ballots are generally perceived as the green crayon brigade.

See ^ there is shaming and judgement about spoilt ballots throughout this thread.

Women fought for the right for all women to have the choice to vote. Feminism is about the liberation of women. I will do whatever the hell I want with my vote and I will not accept other women attempting to guilt trip me by bringing the suffragettes into it.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 11:32

Im afraid on this thread, bellini, that kind of comment is manipulative, shameful, bullying, appalling and disgusting.

nauticant · 23/05/2019 11:31

emotional blackmail by some people on this thread quite disgusting

Having been raised by a narc I find attempts to shame/bully absolutely appalling

I'm very unimpressed by this kind of behaviour. It feels manipulative to me.

bellinisurge · 23/05/2019 11:25

Spoil if you want but this is is unique election when we all have a chance to stick the middle finger up at Leave or Remain. It's likely to be a meaningless election in that we will be out one way or the other soon enough.
I'd say "Pick your battles", this isn't one for now. But you are free to do what you want.
To my mind anything that isn't a clear Remain party is a vote for Faridge. We have lots of shit to stop but I'll start with him.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 11:21

Apologies, there's at least two of you here think people's posts are manipulative, shameful, bullying, appalling and disgusting.

Grin

Unbelievable.

Genderfreelass · 23/05/2019 11:17

Helmet others have also made similar comments re manipulative posts, see Jessica post 2nd from top of this page (3) incase my post goes to next page. There are others throughout the thread. So nice try at making me out to be the only person who thinks that but people can read and see for themselves.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 11:12

Everyone has the right to vote, not vote or spoil as they so wish.

Obviously.

You are the only one here who is going on about people's opinions being shameful, bullying, disgusting, etc.

BTW the idea that exiting the EU we will get "a more local governing body/more accountable." is absolutely laughable. Under WTO rules we will have no power, no control, no say, no accountability whatsoever.

Genderfreelass · 23/05/2019 11:06

I'm not telling people to spoil their vote I'm saying it's up to each individual. I have considered spoiling mine but this thread convinced me otherwise. I also considered voting SNP due to Joan and Joanna but Teddi put a stop to that.

Everyone has the right to vote, not vote or spoil as they so wish. No one should tell them it's wrong whatever you choose. If you support remain go vote remain, if you support Brexit vote for Brexit, if you don't care about Brexit and want to spoil your vote then do that - personal choice.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 10:59

Wow, a brexi voter telling people to go ahead and spoil their ballot paper is fine, but a remain voter asker people not to do so is shaming, bullying, absolutely disgusting.

Grin

You couldn't make it up.

Genderfreelass · 23/05/2019 10:57

Discussion is not the same as shaming, emotional blackmail - see @yourOp playing the victim, others telling people they shouldn't spoil their ballot...

Feel free to discuss my reason for supporting Brexit as stated in previous post.

Darkattheend I agree with what you say about EU/US but like I said a more local governing body is to me more accountable.

Langrish · 23/05/2019 10:37

People who spoil ballots are generally perceived as the green crayon brigade. It doesn’t achieve anything at all.
Use your vote tactically (RemainVoter.com or whatever the opposing view equivalent is if that’s your bag).

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 23/05/2019 10:34

But Brexit is important

It is an important issue. On the website linked above, it advises for me to vote green to give the best change of remain parties to have a say.

Unfortunately, the greens have shown a shocking disregard for safeguarding (will duckworth, the Challenors, probably many others we dont know about). As important as Brexit is to me, safeguarding is more so.

I'm not going to vote for a party who doesn't protect children and vulnerable adults to send a message to the Tory's and labour. They probably won't listen anyway.

FreckledLeopard · 23/05/2019 10:33

Does anyone know Change UK's position re: women's rights and the Self-ID debate? I'm not able to bring myself to vote for Lib Dems or Green as a way to try and prevent Brexit, but reluctant to spoil my ballot if Change UK offers a viable solution?

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 10:17

I find the attempt at emotional blackmail by some people on this thread quite disgusting.

ridiculous thing to say.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 23/05/2019 10:14

X-post. Shame and bully genderfree? Really? It's a discussion board. You do a good job of reminding me that Brexit is for those who don't like discussion.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 23/05/2019 10:11

I would love to just spoil the ballot in the name of women's rights. But Brexit is important. I've repeatedly said that either we stay in the European sphere of influence as a partner, or we'll be used by the American one however it pleases. Of the two the EU is a much safer place for women, and in some countries women have achieved near equality.
That would leave me voting green in my area, and turning green as I do it. Politics is such a disgusting game in a corrupt system.

Genderfreelass · 23/05/2019 10:08

I find the attempt at emotional blackmail by some people on this thread quite disgusting. This is a board for women's rights, our right to vote for who we choose, not vote, spoil our ballots.

My husband is an EU citizen and we will both be voting for people that support Brexit. He will still be entitled to live and work in this country - their is a simple app that can be downloaded that is very easy to complete for any EU national. The further distanced from the people the less accountable government/ruling bodies are - it is not racist, xenophobic or anything else to hold this view.

Childrenofthestones · 23/05/2019 09:57

Waste of a vote.
If you want to protest put it on a banknote.
