Spoiled ballots?

As far as I can see there is no point to the election on Thursday - the MEPs will have nothing to do wish I'd stood. So I am seriously considering using it as an opportunity to spoil my ballot with Woman - Adult Human Female.

Any thoughts?

Well, I'll accept my posts are sarcastic, arsey and even a bit twattish, Grin but not bullying or shaming.

Apologies also, if I've misrepresented you, Jessica.

I do hope people vote today, and I do think a no vote AND a spoiled vote IS a vote for Farage, (not a good thing) but I do appreciate that not everyone sees it like that.

Seriously didn't see any swearing. Which is why I said non-problem.
But if they did and I missed it I suggest you report it.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 13:07

Arguing amongst ourselves about non- problems only has one winner

I’m not sure which ‘non-problems’ you’re referring to, but others can decide for themselves what is or isn’t a problem for them. Helmet swore at me and is being very aggressive. That is a problem for a number of posters wishing to express opinions without being sworn at.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 13:05

. I now fully appreciate that AT LEAST TWO POSTERS find that opinion....

What opinion? Don’t go putting words into people’s mouths. Only one person responded to the comment you quoted directly. Don’t you misrepresent me. Your continued aggression on this thread is really unnecessary. I didn’t respond to you swearing at me before, but I don’t think you’re in a position to tell anyone else how to speak given your own posts.

bellinisurge · 23/05/2019 13:00

I read @Helmetbymidnight's posts. Couldn't see anything bullying about them. Arguing amongst ourselves about non- problems only has one winner.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 12:58

As a (non-British) EU citizen who has lived half her life in the UK I can’t tell you enough how much the outcome of these elections will mean to me. The overall percentage of remainer parties vs the Brexit lot will show me what kind of country this is. If Brexit win I don’t know what I’ll do. Probably just despair.

I agree with this poster and to hear her being told she is 'playing the victim' (on the feminism boards no less) is so sad. I now fully appreciate that AT LEAST TWO POSTERS find that opinion emotionally manipulative/shaming/bullying/disgusting and appalling. I have learnt something today.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 12:54

and decorated with an adult human female sticker.

Oh I wish I had some now... and a green crayon.

terryleather · 23/05/2019 12:52

According to some I've been letting down the Suffragettes since the early 90s as that's how long I've been spoiling my ballot in elections.

I've just done it again - wrote none over the ballot and decorated with an adult human female sticker.

No regrets.

nauticant · 23/05/2019 12:52

Is this the Brexit effect? That whenever the dreaded B word gets pulled into a discussion everyone falls out big-time?

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 12:46

You are the only one here who is going on about people's opinions being shameful, bullying, disgusting, etcShe's not actually....

I know that. How many times do I have to say this? RTFT.

Justhadathought · 23/05/2019 12:39

Im afraid on this thread, bellini, that kind of comment is manipulative, shameful, bullying, appalling and disgusting

It is clear you feel very passionately about Brexit - but your tone is dismissive, sarcastic ( aggressive) and indeed shaming in tone.
Read back over your posts - and imagine someone had posted similarly towards you.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 12:39

LangCleg Grin

LangCleg · 23/05/2019 12:38

I've spoiled my ballot. Couldn't give a single solitary shit who thinks it was a good idea and who thinks it was a bad idea.

For context: I voted Remain in the referendum but in a reluctant, frying-pan-and-fire way, regarding the EU not as anybody's saviour but as the lesser of two evils.

LangCleg · 23/05/2019 12:36

Spoiling your ballot may seem attractive, but it never serves any purpose

Spoiling your ballot may seem attractive, but it never serves my purpose

There. Fixed it for you.

Justhadathought · 23/05/2019 12:34

You are the only one here who is going on about people's opinions being shameful, bullying, disgusting, etc

She's not actually.....I mentioned earlier on in the thread that some of the urgings to vote and not spoil were bordering on emotional manipulation. And if not that, then certainly very dismissive.

People clearly feel strongly about matters, and for some Brexit is the most important issue. For others, women's rights and the whole trans issue is the single, most important issue. I can see that both are important, even though I think that the women's rights issue is far more profound and longer lasting than the issue of Brexit ever will or can be. People want to vote with integrity; and spoiled ballots are counted.

Brexit has been a huge shit show, from what I've observed. Remainers trying to belittle or downgrade Brexit voters ( see a post above who claims that Brexit voters have no valid arguments), trying to claim some sort of moral high-ground. I voted Remain, but at the same time am not some kind of evangelical Europhile - and can see that it has many faults. For example, I've just been along to vote ( Change UK - the only 'remain' party on the ballot paper not have made comments that TWAW) and yet can see how deeply undemocratic it is. I've never met or even seen any of the candidates; know nothing about them. It wouldn't surprise me in the least that they might swan around in Strasbourg on expense accounts, which are probably never throughly scrutinised, for example. Just faceless, box-ticking bureaucrats......Very nice if you can get the job.

People must vote with their conscience at the end of the day, and according to what they feel to be most important.

moonrises · 23/05/2019 12:34

I fear that coming out of Europe will make things a lot worse for women. Spoilt papers are just handing NF more of a majority. And he cares diddly squat about women.

MsMcWibble · 23/05/2019 12:24

Well I just spoiled my ballot, and no, I didn't use a green crayon, I used an Adult Human Female sticker and wrote 'stop giving away women's rights' with my Adult Human Female pen. (Perk from Brighton meeting.)
Then I went outside and told the Lib Dem woman all about self id and that the Lib Dems didn't want people like me in their party.
I don't trust any of the fuckers and none of them are having my vote.

moonrises · 23/05/2019 12:17

I'll be voting LD, probably as useful as pissing in the wind, but I have to try.

AdoraBell · 23/05/2019 12:12

I can’t spoil my ballot this time, too many Brexit Party candidates in my area. It looks like Lib Dems will be my best option Hmm

bellinisurge · 23/05/2019 12:12

Christ on a bike. I've been advocating ballot paper spoiling onhere for every election recently. I happen to think that this one is only about one thing so if people want to vote about that thing there's no problem. Is there? And obviously spoiling the paper is a legitimate thing too. But it lessens the antiFaridge impact because few shits are given in the UK for anything else in this election.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 12:09

To call YourOP's heartfelt post playing the victim was low.

Maybe best it's deleted. This being the feminism board and all.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 12:05

what prompted that

This discussion. Obviously.

Genderfreelass · 23/05/2019 12:00

I agree Jessica.

Maybe I worded my post badly - have asked for edit/deletion.

I am happy for people to vote remain if that's what they support. Others who want to spoil their ballots or vote leave are equally valid in doing so.

bellinisurge · 23/05/2019 11:58

Bloody hell @JessicaWakefieldSV , what prompted that.
Seriously, do what you want with your vote. Obviously.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 23/05/2019 11:57

And we have so many battles to fight.

Yes we do, and we are capable of doing more than one thing at the same time. We are also capable of deciding for ourselves, what is most important to us.
