Please can Harry be dropped from the Fair Cop campaign. Having an overt racist involved will just damage it. Thank you

Just googled. Sargon may not be very nice. I think this is him:

"Carl Benjamin is a British political commentator, anti-feminist, polemicist and YouTuber with the online pseudonym Sargon of Akkad. He is a UK Independence Party candidate for the European Parliament's South West England constituency in the 2019 election. Benjamin grew to prominence through the Gamergate controversy."

However a quick look at twitter suggests that there is some odd TRA politics/pile ons affecting Mark Meechan, another UKIP-per and You Tuber who produced a good and sympathetic interview with Rose of Dawn a few months back. Rose of Dawn does not seem happy.

Time to take a step back and just be glad that Harry is getting his money, and that the courts will be able to take a view.

(And to ponder about the younger generation. I really like Rose of Dawn and her willingness to say it as she sees it, albeit from the perspective of a transsexual, on the TG "debate". But don't really get the gamer stuff, nor the UKIP links with the YouTube friends, other than a party that promotes Lily M is unlikely to welcome Rose.)

I will give Harry some more nice things, am very proud if the UK, my country, will be the one to set the precedent in this pile of horse shit and stop any more of this ridiculousness taking hold.

We do indeed need some court cases for clarity.

Sargon is Carl Benjamin of the Jess Phillips rape joke fame.

Genderfreelass · 17/05/2019 09:03

Just gave Harry some nice things. Glad to see word is spreading, don't know who Sargon is but thank you. If other countries see a precedent set in the UK I imagine they will jump on it to try and regain sanity in their own countries.

nauticant, you did better than me to read through my typos. In fairness it was a lovely sunny day and I had two hours to kill, so spent it drinking wine on a cafe terrace. Wine and posting...

My guess is that TRAs are very worried about UK feminists getting financial support from the American right. They will know that a majority in each country are sceptical about a human's ability to change sex. Elements of the American right have some pretty abhorrent views, but do have money. So far transgender policy in both countries has happened by stealth and without public debate, with TRAs have been quick to write off RedFems as the same small group meeting in different places.

Harry and Posie are different. They don't have the radfem background, but instead are trying to force public debate. If we get proper debate in the UK, including safeguarding, medical ethics, sport etc, we almost certainly won't end up with self-ID. Such a debate would then empower GC people in the US. Not just the right, but GC democrats, and those ordinary people who don't like to see girls lose access to athletic success, worry about their kids being pushed into a medical route, want single sex restrictions in refuges etc.

Harry's fundraiser seems to be taking off, with lots of new donations from men, some of whom clearly are not in the UK. TRAs have not objected to the generous pro-bono legal support available to the LGBT+ community. However prepare for some teeth gnashing now. We have long known that the the Stonewall and friends interpretation of the law used in their training and policy advice needed to be tested in court. This is a good opportunity. What happened to Harry should not have happened.

Just read a few more comments - Australia, America again, and Sargon sent me. Youtuber, right?

teawamutu · 17/05/2019 07:40

13,439 nice things! And the most recent comments refer to Texas and Canada. Someone must have picked it up across the pond.

SocksKnitter · 16/05/2019 18:52

OP, with regard to the burka tweet, perhaps you should remember that the MP who today announced his campaign to become our next Prime Minister was paid £5000 by the Telegraph for an article in which he compared women wearing burkas to pillar-boxes. That article was seen by millions, whereas Harry's tweet reached a few hundred at most. Your outrage seems rather manufactured to me, I'm afraid.

No. From the men.

Staffori · 16/05/2019 18:08

Harry isn't a racist and the 'I hate Muslims' post - as is clear from the context - was about what one can say with impunity and what one can't. I think he was making a fair point but, in any case, we can't know whether it reflects what he thinks today because it was posted a few years ago, when he had no idea he was going to be thrust into the limelight.

Had he known that someone with an axe to grind would go trawling through his timeline trying to find something to use against him, he would probably have been more careful, although I find it immensely saddening that we have to be so careful of what we say and how we phrase things because we can never be sure that whatever we might say won't be noted and used against us in the future.

Frankly, I'm sick to death of people who profess to be on the same side throwing each other under the bus. What exactly does it achieve apart from giving succour to our enemies? Harry is a friend to feminists fighting the cult and I, for one, appreciate that he is willing to put his head above the parapet and use his appalling treatment by the rozzers as a springboard for a sorely needed fightback.

By the way, slycooperatemysocks, you've mentioned looking through facebook but I'm not clear what we should be looking for?

nauticant · 16/05/2019 17:56

It's voices like yours on FWR that makes it such a great place to learn stuff Needmoresleep.

Needmoresleep · 16/05/2019 17:44

Andyoldlabour it seems like we are destined to agree on a whlle load of threads (I am booked to attend some of the later rounds of the football world cup so may well revive that thread - the England women's kit is great, forst tle they have had their own one.)

I am lucky enough to speak the language used in a Muslim country, so have a Muslim adoptive family who I stayed with when I did immersion. I was there recently for the sons wedding.

The spread of Wahabism has profoundly altered religious practice there. Bloody
Saudi money. (In many sesnse of yhe word.)

I am more than willing to praise and criIslam, or rather the way it is practiced in equal measure. Does that make me an Islamophobe? The day to day generousity of the family I lived with to those less fortunate was truly impressive. Yet women I know are campaigning to prevent the creep of Sharia in very much the same way as women her, and Harry, are fighting gender bollocks. Misogny is everywhere. I dont understand, but womens rights are threatened everywhere.

I also speak three Euopean languages aside from English and have lived in two other large European countries. I am European sceptical, though decided not to vote in the referendum. I dont think Junkers and pals have a vision beyond self interest. And am worried about the resurgance of the right in countries in the East.

This, according to my super woke Momentum friends, apparently makes me a racist. Even if they cant place Poland on a map.

Well bollocks, bollocks, bollocks. And go Harry go!

MIdgebabe · 16/05/2019 17:27

THEN You should know how this place works, what is likely to make you seem a newbie, and what FWR and regulars are and are not capable of influencing

slycooperatemysocks · 16/05/2019 17:20

I am posting under a new name/anon because there is a history of threats. Again, I am not a TRA.

OP posts:
DancingRaven · 16/05/2019 15:17

Well well well. Interesting that the TRA's are doing an archaeological dig on Harry, but seems they're just ignoring their golden children.

Actually not interesting, just highly predictable. Hope Joss is taking note

Goosefoot · 16/05/2019 14:32

I suspect that the charity sector and their relationships with Government needs reviewing.

Yes, I think so. It's been really corporatised. The same kind of explosion of management you see in all other sectors. I think that is usually bad for everyone.

It's tricky though, when you think more in terms of a grassroots community group, or say, a union. Because they are important in terms of making sure that other large powerful entities - like developers or corporate employers - don't have more influence then they should.

lucasthecat · 16/05/2019 14:29

It is worth pointing out - Harry the Owl did not say he hates Muslims - he made the point it is currently acceptable in many Woke circles to state - I hate Tories - but not acceptable to say I hate Muslims - Tory is a political belief - Muslim is a religious belief - No Tory currently want to execute or punish gay people - Quite a lots of Muslim countries do /. Just for the record I think anyone who announces they hate any group or type of person - Immediately marks themselves as an idiot - and I hate idiots (joke)

SunsetBeetch · 16/05/2019 14:25

Same, Royal.

RoyalCorgi · 16/05/2019 13:57

TBH, if Peter Tatchell was questioned by police for saying something offensive, I would still support his right to say it, even though I despise the man.

SunsetBeetch · 16/05/2019 13:56

Well, gosh. Noted TRAs Stephanie Hayden and CursedE must be feeling very conflicted about Harry and Fair Cop...

"so why should Harry the Owl get a free pass for saying he hates Muslims? Its fair enough to take people at face value and in good faith. But racism isn't something I can just ignore."

It isn't racism it is Islamophobia.

My wife and the better half of my family are Muslims, and I love them, but it still doesn't stop me being hypercritical about some aspects of Islam, which would certainly have SOME Muslims accusing me of Islamophobia.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 16/05/2019 13:54

Peter Tatchell doesn't get off the hook for comments he has made in the past

Because his position is the same today. He hasn’t changed his mind and his comments previously, and currently, are far more disturbing than anything Harry has tweeted.
