Here you go. My eldest was one of the first group of cadets. Only 22 of them. Only 10 boys. Youngest in 3rd wave. Still 65% girls.
Both have been to pride, refugee support groups. Both have been to muslim, sikh, buddist events. They have both spent 36 hours overnight on the night challenge working with kids in care and post care.
Eldest has given up at least 55 days, over 28 months, to work with girls and boys who are on the edge of crime and CSE to get them back into society.
Not surprising neither have been invited to work with women's centres or groups of vunerable women.
But eldest best friend, cadet of the year, and 3 others, ALL GIRLS, have spent as many hours if not more, working with womens groups
But slag off kids who work, free of charge, for at least 3 hours a week, to improve their communities.

Funnily enough, 7 of 11 cadet leaders are female. All are under 30. Because old coppers like Harry, don't want to assist.
But there are brilliant former officers giving up time to support the cadets.

All cadets, wether working with WOMEN'S AID, LOCAL WOMEN'S CENTRE, bame, lbgt and the care kids, report that all say they won't report the likes of Harry or Tommy Robinson or racists, because they don't believe the police take it seriously or care after all they police are white middle class men and women.
Then they meet the cadets and change their minds. Reports go up.
I am proud of my boys, their cadet mates and staff and officers of Humberside.

I look closely at the people I support and fund

Scrimshaw. Yes liberty and amnesty are really annoying. Especially liberty. They still have aims on their Web site all about how they want to review speech laws in this country, because all the different laws encroach on our right to free speech in unpredictable ways, but in practice they seem to have abandoned it.

LangCleg · 05/06/2019 16:37

Hmmm. But not womens' groups.

Says it all, really, doesn't it?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/06/2019 16:33

Yup, it may have been a shit poem and HtO may be a dick, who cares?

Doesn't matter. This is an important challenge to establish freedom of speech and our civil liberties. Especially since the organisations I used to support to do exactly those things (Amnesty and Liberty) appear to have been organisationally lobotimised when it comes to this issue.

Thank you, Harry et al.

Needmoresleep · 05/06/2019 16:21

lots of brilliant Humberside police officers and support staff, including both my sons who are volunteer cadets, who have spent hours working with local LGBT charities to them to report hate incidents and crimes. Plus local refugees and BAME groups. All thick Harry the owl is a prat.

Hmmm. But not womens' groups. The issue here is that there is direct conflict between changes that Transgender groups want (GRA reform) and single sex protections that women want to retain.

So the police are happy to boast that they spend hours working with some lobby groups, but appear completely uninterested in hearing women's concerns. Police think HarrytheOwl is a prat because he is campaigning for, interalia, women's voices to be heard.

And I suspect that many on this forum will think that male posters who pop up to tell us how women should think and/or spend their money, are prats. There is a lot of work WYP could be doing to help protect vulnerable women and girls on their patch, including in Holbeck, and indeed within the Asian community. But no, they are too busy to hear our concerns. Prats too.

Surely it's not that difficult to understand that when you have an important principle such as free speech, the principle still applies even when the person exercising it is a complete tosser. I mean, how fucking difficult can it be?

Exactly. How on earth have people come to think that free speech means speech you agree with and not anything said by someone you don't like?

It's really, really not difficult. Free speech is a principle. It's a specific principle that ignores both the content and the integrity of the person speaking.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 05/06/2019 15:05

2Boys so you are saying lots of Humberside police officers, support staff and voluntary cadets have spent hours working with local LGBT charities encouraging them to report non-crimes?

RoyalCorgi · 05/06/2019 14:26

Manderleyagain: Spot on. I constantly feel downhearted at the number of people on social media who cannot separate their feelings about a particular individual from the principle involved. It makes me wonder sometimes why we bother sending people to school or university. Surely it's not that difficult to understand that when you have an important principle such as free speech, the principle still applies even when the person exercising it is a complete tosser. I mean, how fucking difficult can it be?

LikeothersIamjustme · 05/06/2019 13:29

Think it was pretty clear who the article supported :-)

Manderleyagain · 05/06/2019 11:33

People on here and elsewhere who argue against supporting this law suit because they don't like Harry the Owl, are missing the point of the legal challenge.

I personally didn't like the poem and wouldn't have put it on my social media either. I am sure I would completely disagree with him about some things. He may be a complete prat for all I know. All those things are irrelevant.

I don't want to live in a society where people can be 'brought in for questioning', rung up by the police to check their thinking, or have the possibility of being accused of a 'non crime hate incident' for expressing their opinions, or sharing lawful material. It gives the police (the state) powers to harass people and dampens public discussion on public issues. It is gender identity today. What will it be in 10 years?

If lobby groups can frame a discussion about policy/the law (in fact any issue) as being against a group who are protected by hate speech laws, and sell that framing to the police, then they can shut down any public discussion of it.

littlbrowndog · 05/06/2019 11:02

I hope that the police anywhere are speaking to men’s groups and telling them not to sexually assault and murder women at the rate of 2 a week

Are there men’s groups and communities. ?

ZebrasAreBras · 05/06/2019 10:53

All thick Harry the owl is a prat.

Yeah - people don't really like it when someone holds them to account.

You really think it's a valid use of your son's time to spend half an hour on the phone to people for "liking" limericks on Twitter?

Or ringing up Margaret Nelson, a retired humanist celebrant, about her blog on human skeletons?

I think it's an appalling waste of police time and resources.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 05/06/2019 08:12

2BoysandaCairn
I trust that honourable man

The you'll agree Harry commited no crime, there was no victim and no justification for police to phone him.
As ACC young admitted himself.

JackyHolyoake · 05/06/2019 08:01

2BoysandaCairn

I think you may have misunderstood what Harry's legal case is about.

Harry is challenging the College of Policing on the grounds of infringement of Article 10 of the UK Human Rights Act 1998:

www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/42/schedule/1

2BoysandaCairn · 05/06/2019 07:42

I know lots of brilliant Humberside police officers and support staff, including both my sons who are volunteer cadets, who have spent hours working with local LGBT charities to them to report hate incidents and crimes. Plus local refugees and BAME groups. All thick Harry the owl is a prat.
But you throw all the above groups under a bus, so Harry and his anti muslim mates can say what they like.
He approves of Tommy Robinson. FGS.
ACC Young has explained why he was spoken too. I trust that honourable man before any twitter keyboard warrior.

Christ if you win, it will be back to
No blacks, Irish, Gays and dogs.
I despair.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 05/06/2019 06:38

Brilliant.

ZebrasAreBras · 05/06/2019 00:31

This is very welcome news, I support Harry wholeheartedly - this needs challenging.

MereMinion · 05/06/2019 00:00

MilletSentToForceIt · 12/05/2019 18:58

I’ve contributed. Fair Cop is a great name too. Thanks Harry.

RoyalCorgi · 12/05/2019 14:49

Well done, Sanchez and Joani. Apart from anything else, I'm glad to see the infamous tweet referred to correctly as a "poem" rather than a "limerick." Grin

Nephilim1964 · 12/05/2019 11:47

Thanks Lang
