I was called a uterus haver, in a what'sapp chat, aimed at promoting female health,in a family chat...
The person who sent it is very woke, does lots for the community, lgbt and sporting.
I didn't reply as did no one else.
I said to my partner that it is an attempt at normalising that language, the one that can't say woman...

OP posts:

And idiot is an idiot. Idiocy has not sex or gender.

Obviously. However, this idiot was a "her" and not a "penis haver"

MockerstheFeManist · 12/05/2019 11:38

Outofinspiration · 12/05/2019 11:13

I don't understand why the OP said she was called a 'uterus haver' when she wasn't? Confused

Outofinspiration · 12/05/2019 11:13

DD was not old enough to be independently registering for a surgery, but she was old enough to be considered capable of independently filling in her own health questionnaire by the doctor.

So old enough to know that she has a cervix and where it is then? It's your responsibility as her mum to ensure she knows that you know? You seem to just think it's inevitable that she wouldn't know this?

I roll my eyes at the 'my 3 year old calls it her vulva' brigade (no 3 year old says vulva), but I do think that it's parents responsibility to ensure that their children have anatomical awareness at an appropriate age.

CaptSkippy · 12/05/2019 11:11

It's very dehumanising language toward women. Like we are not female human beings, but walking incubators. This is how you end up with Handmaid's Tale scenarios.

DecomposingComposers · 12/05/2019 11:10

If you say 'people with cervices need to have regular smear tests' that is opaque and not all women will understand.
They didn't say that though did they?

The OP said it was if you have a cervix - so what is wrong with that?

It's certainly not as offensive as saying "uterus haver" which is what the title says (presumably because it's more inflammatory).

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/05/2019 11:07

Just refuse to buy into the crap. It’s male centred - must they own everything?

OrchidInTheSun · 12/05/2019 11:06

Sadly some people find the level of internalised misogyny some women display hard to believe.

OrchidInTheSun · 12/05/2019 11:05

If you say 'women need to have regular smear tests', that is abundantly clear. If you say 'people with cervices need to have regular smear tests' that is opaque and not all women will understand.

The question is whether you think scoring woke cookies is is more important than women's health.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/05/2019 11:05

And idiot is an idiot. Idiocy has not sex or gender.

SoupDragon · 12/05/2019 11:04

Why is everyone assuming it was a man that said this? The OP said her.

I've mentioned that a couple of times. No one cares.

Endofthedays · 12/05/2019 10:59

If someone said women need x test, I would know x test applied to me, regardless of my knowledge of X.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/05/2019 10:57

“I’ve got tits too” I may have responded but more likely “how fucking offensive - who gives you the right to redefine the terminology I use to describe myself as a woman (you utter arsehole)?”

DecomposingComposers · 12/05/2019 10:53

So the message didn't say "uterus haver" then? Why did you say it did?

What it said was if you have a cervix get a smear test (or words to that effect)?

Why is that a problem?

Surely if a woman doesn't know what a cervix is they might not know what a smear test is either, or why they need it, so what language would you prefer to be used to ensure that everyone understands?

I think you've exaggerated this for dramatic effect.

ixqik · 12/05/2019 10:48

prostate haver...

Phuquocdreams · 12/05/2019 10:48

Why is everyone assuming it was a man that said this? The OP said her. Just from looking on Twitter, Irish women are at least as likely, probably much more likely in fact, to come out with this shite.

BogglesGoggles · 12/05/2019 10:45

I personally prefer uterite

And health care professionals should be working with patients based on what the population do know, not what they think people should ideally know.

This. Health care information should be non obfuscatory and written in plain English. There is no justification for making it less clear to pander to a small group.

Endofthedays · 12/05/2019 10:37

DD was not old enough to be independently registering for a surgery, but she was old enough to be considered capable of independently filling in her own health questionnaire by the doctor.

Given the number of women on threads on here that don’t know the difference between a vagina and a vulva, don’t know what endometriosis is, don’t understand the position of the clitoris, don’t understand variation in hymens, I think it is fair to say many women are not that clear on female anatomy, particularly internal anatomy.

And health care professionals should be working with patients based on what the population do know, not what they think people should ideally know.

mineallmine · 12/05/2019 10:17

DpWm's response is perfect. Let that be the last comment on the thread. If it's pissed you off, you can be sure it's annoyed others too. Don't let it go unchallenged. That response isn't combative - it looks like you're wholeheartedly agreeing but you're actually correcting the fool.

Outofinspiration · 12/05/2019 10:07

Yeah just say what DpWm said and then when they object and say 'not all people with a cervix are women blah blah blah' just don't reply. That will really piss them off!

DpWm · 12/05/2019 10:05

I'd reply
"Yes I totally agree. All women on this chat, please make sure to have regular smear tests. Women in Ireland have died because of an institutional crises. As a woman I feel sadness and worry that Irish women could be at risk.
Book your smear!
Lots of love and best wishes to my lovely family xxxx xxxxxxx "

SoupDragon · 12/05/2019 10:03

See how he likes bring called an ejaculator.

The only time I can see that the OP has mentioned their gender is when she referred to the person as her

OrchidInTheSun · 12/05/2019 10:02

Woke language is killing women
