AIBU to think the US deserves the Govt it's got?

I know there are other threads about this.

But am I being unreasonable to think that America deserves the president it has because so many people - of which a ridiculous amount were women - voted for this cretin? I know he didn't get the popular vote, but he did get the job.

He put Kavanagh in there, and now if Roe vs Wade goes to the Supreme Court, the GOP plants will overturn it.

I'm so angry about this, but I feel as if America has brought this on themselves, and if that man wins in 2020, which let's face it, he almost certainly will, they've got no-one to blame but themselves.

Argue back. Please. Tell me I'm unreasonable, and why. This is all so depressing.

Trump has a certain amount of charisma and cunning but he is also just not very bright, he can't tolerate anyone who can think above him so he will end up surrounding himself with people who are even stupider than he is
This weakens him

Most American voters didn't think he was best. Lots didn't vote, because people have forgotten why it's important. And of those who did vote, most voted for Clinton. Add in those (mainly Democrat) voters illegally denied a vote and there's a massive amount who didn't vote for him.

The noose is tightening, the consequences of the Meuller report are still unfolding, soon we will be seeing tax returns, and there is still the sdny to go....

I know, and I've acknowledged that, Terry.

agree that real life people (who didn't vote for him) don't deserve it - at all - but I'm just so angry that there aren't enough of them, and that most American voters thought he was the best option.

I'm that angry, that I do think they (the country) deserves him.

And I still think he has enough support to get a second term. I hope to God I'm wrong, but I bet I'm not.

I am an American. I didn't vote for him, and I am just as appalled as you are. But we are fighting back. We've got the house of representatives back from the GOP. By 2020 he will be rotting in jail with all his cronies. Mueller got John Gotti (head of the Gambino crime family), Trump's days are numbered. We're not sitting back, we are fighting!

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/05/2019 12:48

And technically more people voted for Clinton. But she lost because of their system.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/05/2019 12:48

Women of colour didn't vote for him in the main and they will be adversely affected by his policies.

Government after government in the US and UK have tried to destroy education, learning, media... it's not people's fault that they now struggle to see the way economics and politics work.

Yanbu that it's depressing though. Between brexit, trump and climate change I often wonder what will finish us off first.

SmallBee · 11/05/2019 12:43

I mean, I can't argue intelligently on this but my gut response is that the actual real life people don't deserve it, anymore that we deserve the disaster that is brexit.
Yes technically more people voted for it than not but regardless of the initial vote, most of the population now feel powerless, unheard and terrified for the future.
The only positive of the US situation is that presumably Trump will eventually not be in charge, whereas brexit is forever.

YemenRoadYemen · 11/05/2019 12:42

I didn't think he would win in 2016.

I don't think he will win in 2020
