Scotsman article here

So far they have been firm re. protecting freedom of speech, but the pressure is escalating and will continue, and they will keep a close eye on the balance of negative/positive correspondence.

The event details are here.

If any of you could write in support of the event the key recipients would be the head of the School of Education Prof. Rowena Arshad ([email protected]) and the Principal Prof. Peter Mathieson ([email protected]).

“Lost my shot at Julie Bindel. She filmed me. I’m safe.”

Presumably wanting to highlight to their followers that JB did not respond violently to being assaulted. more’s the pity

LangCleg · 05/06/2019 22:56

Stink bombs? Seriously?

Mbwashenzi · 05/06/2019 22:52

"Cathy" Brennan is a very sick man. The rest of the protesters were quiet and well-behaved but he arrived shouting and swearing and clearly unstable. The trans people inside the venue were well-behaved, apart from the stink bombs...

littlbrowndog · 05/06/2019 22:41

Safe ? From what

LangCleg · 05/06/2019 22:41

What the fuck will it take for the authorities to start taking notice?

Butchyrestingface · 05/06/2019 22:38

“Lost my shot at Julie Bindel. She filmed me. I’m safe.“

In fact, the “shOT” appears to have been a typo for “shIt” so they are admitting to having “lost their shIt” at Bindell.

I do hope the police have seen this tweet and Bindell’s footage.

Butchyrestingface · 05/06/2019 22:33

I don't think Cathy Brennan was in the room - I'm sure we'd have been aware if he was!

I think they* were outside. They tweeted:

“Lost my shot at Julie Bindel. She filmed me. I’m safe.”

*because I don’t want to get banned.

littlbrowndog · 05/06/2019 22:32

Gawd they so can’t stand that women are allowed to speak

Allowed to speak

What fucking century do I live in where women are attacked for speaking

GCAcademic · 05/06/2019 22:28

Why would they attack a woman

Male-pattern violence.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 05/06/2019 22:28

That photo was nicked from Joan McAlpine's Twitter feed. I don't think Cathy Brennan was in the room - I'm sure we'd have been aware if he was!

littlbrowndog · 05/06/2019 22:26

Did Brennan attack Julie ?

littlbrowndog · 05/06/2019 22:25

What. Why would they attack a woman

Ffs violent pigs

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 05/06/2019 22:25

Not just towntattle but others being incredibly ageist & misogynist on twitter.

They shouldn't have shown their hand to women who've had to deal with both for decades who have so much compassion for anyone vulnerable but v little patience for this shite

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 05/06/2019 22:20

Poor Julie.

SunsetBeetch · 05/06/2019 22:19

Yes, the irony SuperLoud

TownTattle is disturbingly full of hate and anger, imo.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 05/06/2019 22:16

They should really have stayed on message and not had protesters assaulting speakers in that case tbh.
And organized a trans conference that was actually intersectional

Butchyrestingface · 05/06/2019 22:11

Am assuming they want to force resignations (the principal, etc).

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/06/2019 21:43

They not that. Why did they resign - because the talk went ahead or because they were told not to talk about it? How many actual transsexuals are there on the campus? 1 or 2?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/06/2019 21:41

So that ‘bravely’ say.

SunsetBeetch · 05/06/2019 21:39

Was the attacker the lovely Cathy?

Also the University Pride Committee (I think) has apparently resigned en masse.

Genuinely appalled to hear that. I thought the protest was all glitter and crafts, not physical violence and intimidation?

Butchyrestingface · 05/06/2019 21:33

And now in the pub, apparently! 👍 was

Whyrmengreattiltheygottabgreat · 05/06/2019 21:31

Terrible. Solidarity with Julie, hope she’s ok and it doesn’t put her off coming back to Edinburgh.
“Right side of history”, folks.

Butchyrestingface · 05/06/2019 21:26

Have read that she’s shaken but unhurt. Angry

Auldspinster · 05/06/2019 21:12

Am reading that Julie Bindel was attacked leaving the eventSad
