I can’t believe what I’ve just watched. Eddie Izzard is on Joe Rogan saying ALL bathrooms should be gender neutral and completely dismissed the concerns women have that Joe brought up. He dismissed it as “people always complain when there’s change”

The whole thing is so selfish and entitled.

There is an extra layer of why?

The Uncanny Valley effect. And it signals extra danger (due to perceived deception) not less danger.

Missingstreetlife · 08/05/2019 09:20

You have to distinguish between old style transexual and modern transactivist, which the activists don't want you to do. Transwomen (&intersex) gay or straight, with or without surgery or certificate who just want to live in their preferred gender are now rejecting generic trans label (see Miranda Yardley) and support women's rights, or just minding own biz.
The newer type of trans people includes non binary, and agp, and some who may be confused lesbians. Some are reasonable and some support self ID and are extremely hostile to any debate. Agp is a sexual orientation and not a gender preference, this is where the problems start. Some say they are lesbians and want to have PIV sex with lesbian women.

I used to think/know that transwomen were no threat to women. Not any more because I've seen Maria McLachlan get punched in the face, I've seen those really intimidating people at the JamJar, I've read all the threats on twitter.

I now think that transwomen are more of a danger than men, statistically speaking.

The bloke in the dress always stuck out like a sore thumb
but now the bloke in the dress has attitude, he's like 'come on make my day punk, one word from you and I'm going to start screeching about being dead named'🙄

I concur. Our brains are processing every obvious and minute marker and it's almost instantaneous. It's amazing, really. Evolution really is fascinating. This must be a skill honed over millennia.

And especially when man is disguised as female - for whatever reason. There is an extra layer of why?

Yes. I remember the first time I used that - I was nine years old, on my way home from Sunday school and was confronted by a boy who lived on my street who was a violent bully.

He still thumped me.

This too. So many girls, now women, have this experience.

VickyEadie · 07/05/2019 19:43

As is the pacifying, de-escalating smile, which males interpret as either she didn't clock me or she was quite happy with my presence when actually the truth is quite the opposite.

clocking a male is a survival skill for females

Fekko-
-way too much ‘doing woman’
Exactly! Without having the pitfalls of BEING Woman. Grrrr he is going to annoy me forever now.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/05/2019 19:20

I saw him marching down the street a few months ago - he caught my eye because he had that 'LOOKIT ME' springy walk and a rather square head. Feminine rather than 'women' clothes. Obvious makeup and male jawline.

I just saw a video of him on my twitter feed - way too much 'doing woman'. I find him very irritating now.

RomanyQueen1 · 07/05/2019 19:02

He's just a has been jumping on the bandwagon. I'm pretty sure nobody gives his opinion much headspace.
he was funny in his day though.

RuffleCrow · 07/05/2019 18:59

Eddie you've lost another fan here. I used to quote your lines ad nauseum. I used to laugh at your jokes til my sides physically hurt.

Now look at you. You're a washed up, misogynistic disgrace. I hope lots of people tweet this thread at you.

Quietlife333 · 07/05/2019 18:55

Eddie is a nobhead. How nice of Eddie (seeing as none of this affects him in anyway,) to tell all us ladies what we should be forced to do. Cheeky fucker. I wouldn’t use any pub/shop/gym/office/mixed sex anything. I would refuse to buy anything in those places too. I won’t be watching Eddie either anymore. Nob.

I was thinking about this earlier. Recently, my partner and I were in a cafe which was quite crowded. I need to add here that I have been diagnosed with poor visual perceptual skills and poor visual memory.

I was suddenly aware, almost but not quite out of peripheral vision, that one of the couple sitting about 20 feet away was a transwoman. I liken the realisation to a meerkat spotting a predator, it was such a flash of insight, seemingly for no apparent reason.

That we might say nothing clearly leads transwomen to assume they pass and we don't clock them. But even I clock them and I clock very little indeed.

I've said it before - I have on occasions failed to recognise members of my own family.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 07/05/2019 14:05

I’ve just listened to this. Izzard’s views are repellent. he clearly could not give a shit about how women feel

Ereshkigal · 07/05/2019 13:14

I have a list of men whom I shall never forgive for their betrayal of women.

Izzard is near to the top of it.

There isn't a side of fuck far enough for him to fuck off to, so far as I am concerned.

I liked the Greer quote. Humans cannot change sex. I am fed up of being manhandled through someone else's fantasy life.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 07/05/2019 06:11

I quite like Contrapoints. I don't agree with them, but they have a lightness and humour which is almost always missing from other TRAs.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/05/2019 05:40

Surely that YouTuber doesn't think they;pass? There's a definite pantomime bad fairy vibe going on.

Lamaha · 07/05/2019 04:39

I couldn't watch that video the first time it was posted and I couldn't watch it now. It's like chalk on a blackboard for me. If the arguments were transcribed and presented in a serious, non-gimmicky way I'd read.
