MN have deleted the thread started by Maya - who lost her job for speaking up for women- because it talks about her crowdfunding for legal costs

Here is today's times article on the case https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tax-expert-fired-for-saying-trans-women-aren-t-women-tpqgnm9vj?shareToken=3f12f5cae61c02fd41040eb816fd37b4&wgu=2705255426441557045162977940f0d76fa1&wgexpiry=1564821162&utmmsource=planit&utmmedium=affiliate&utmm_content=22278

Quote on the thing:

Here's a second donation for being allowed the last word against an ill-informed panel on the Daily Politics

I think every time something awful like this panel (I didn't watch it but it sounds awful) happens in public we should all return and support again.

theOtherPamAyres · 08/05/2019 23:26

I noticed that Molly Scott Cato took control of the direction of the panel discussion to make a party political broadcast about the Green Party's stance on Trans rights. It was at this point that the panel was diverted to talk about the benefits of self i/d, I thought.

It suited her to have a different discussion and to ignore the fact that a woman had lost her livelihood for disagreeing with Scott Cato's own beliefs.

No doubt the Green Party will tweet the clip so that no-one has to watch the programme to get the message - a particularly effective tactic aimed at younger voters in the European elections.

It was opportunistic and cynical to derail the discussion. Jo Coburn seemed to zone out and allow a different discussion to the one that the audience might have expected.

Green Politicians, eh? They say they want to do politics differently and then they show themselves to be just the same as the rest.

Justhadathought · 08/05/2019 21:40

No longer about facts and information but about personalities and being on trend

I think you're right. Aligned to that is the use of ever younger presenters and commentators, who really don't have much of a clue, and much experience.

merrymouse · 08/05/2019 20:44

But I still don’t understand why the panel all started bleating TWAW.

Because from their point of view not all humans have equal value. Your value is determined by your membership of a tribe. Anyone can be accepted in the tribe. All that is demanded is loyalty. This is why you can join the 'Womanhood' or the 'Queer' tribe without being female, bisexual or gay. To exile somebody from the tribe is to pretend that they don't exist, or worse, might be a Tory.

On the other hand in a legal system far, far away, we have rights because we are human, but in order to benefit from human rights legislation some people with protected characteristics need additional rights and protections.

They were bleating on about TWAW because they live in a parallel universe.

OvaHere · 08/05/2019 20:14

I think they have to keep bleating it because it's the cornerstone that underpins their whole ideology. At some point it's going to be legally challenged and I think we are seeing the beginnings of that in the sporting world.

Then it's all going to come crashing down quite rapidly and there will be a rush amongst the woke to distance themselves and pretend that's never what they actually meant.

littlbrowndog · 08/05/2019 20:03

But I still don’t understand why the panel all started bleating TWAW.

That wasn’t what the discussion should have been about.

It was like they were all so gasping to show their wokieness that they completely missed whole point

And that is mainly because jo coburn led the way with her stupidity and vacuous questions

She paved way on this for how the bleating sheep responded

Ereshkigal · 08/05/2019 19:58

That's an excellent way of framing it, merry. So true.

merrymouse · 08/05/2019 19:32

I don’t think the people you were talking to understand why particular groups of people need specific rights and services.

They are completely focused on affirming identity without realising that the point of a protected characteristic is that it allows discrimination.

I don’t have an equal right to use all the seats on the bus, but that isn’t because I’m oppressed, it’s because I am able bodied.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 08/05/2019 19:26

quite aside from anything else, criticising the content of your tweets and giving you no chance to respond is just very bad manners. I thought better of the BBC (although fuck knows why).

S1naidSucks · 08/05/2019 19:24

I really did have a good chat with the taxi driver Try to remember that the people who live outside of the woke BBC bubble have a more realistic view towards what the trans juggernaut is doing to women’s rights.

Floisme · 08/05/2019 19:23

I'm not surprised the best conversation you had was with the taxi driver.
Ordinary people get it, once they know about it.
You raised £60,000 in - what was it, 3 days? That's how much people get it.
Well done for keeping your cool. We're rooting for you.

borntobequiet · 08/05/2019 19:18

You were good. They were rubbish. Well done.

FiredMaya · 08/05/2019 19:05

I really did have a good chat with the taxi driver..... I was trying to think of something positive to say Angry.

Anyway thanks for all the support. Soooo much appreciated.

stumbledin · 08/05/2019 18:49

@LangCleg

And ... ?

OvaHere · 08/05/2019 18:24

I haven't watched this. Just reading the comments here is enough to send my blood pressure up.

It's like an invasion of the pod people.

Ereshkigal · 08/05/2019 18:01

I think it is more worrying than it just being about trying to attract a younger audience, I think it is realising that the news is no longer about facts and information but about personalities and being on trend.

And spin, virtue signalling and social engineering based on a prevailing political agenda. See Lang's Regulatory Capture thread.

stumbledin · 08/05/2019 17:52

re BBC and other news media outlets

I think it is more worrying than it just being about trying to attract a younger audience, I think it is realising that the news is no longer about facts and information but about personalities and being on trend.

And unfortunately to do with the type of education and expectations those more recently leaving higher education think is how you "do" the news.

News programmes often seem to be not about the issue itself but about presententers showing off or competing with colleagues and rivals. They want to have the scoop. Not a scoop in terms of proper investigation, but geting someone (preferrably a politician) say something stupid live on air. Then they can spend the rest of the day endlessly re-airing their "scoop". Its Big Brother politics.

And of course, in terms of a younger generation coming into broadcasting from university, they will all have had an education that is steeped in the gender queer politics that was part of the back lash against Women's Liberation. So when it comes to trans rights versus women's rights they dont even think, they just like good pavlov dogs say what they have been brainwashed into thinking.

LangCleg · 08/05/2019 17:51

But in another forum discussing this case it was pointed out that Maya Forstater didn't lose her job, but her contract came to an end and it was not renewed.

Asked and answered more than a dozen times here alone.

stumbledin · 08/05/2019 17:42

Sorry if this has already been discussed, haven't had time to read all this thread.

But in another forum discussing this case it was pointed out that Maya Forstater didn't lose her job, but her contract came to an end and it was not renewed. Obviously if she had an expectation of renewal and / or had been told it would that would be different. But in terms of a legal case it isn't the same as losing your job.

Not saying that it isnt disgusting the way she has been treated, but knowing how unsatisfactory legal arguements are as they deal with technicalities not what is right or wrong, am wondering if this is going to make the court case more difficult.

And of course the information I am passing in on may be wrong. Blush

RoyalCorgi · 08/05/2019 16:42

Love Harry the Owl: "You were great, Maya. Where did they round up that bunch of woke nutters or do they keep them at room temperature in a BBC cupboard?"

It does come to something when on a panel of four people they can't find one who understands the importance of free speech.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 08/05/2019 16:41

I would love to see a (for example) Muslim woman ask a man why he think his right to ladyfeelz his way into female spaces on a daily whim is greater than hers, who is now excluded entirely.

Datun · 08/05/2019 16:23

Asking Maya are you transphobic? Are you?

Is discussion of the current law and proposals to change it transphobic???

Ffs.

Fools. Sexist fools.

Justhadathought · 08/05/2019 16:18

I used to bloody love the BBC. I still think it’s a good thing on balance I’d just like the grown ups back in charge now sad

The BBC realises that in order to survive going forward that it needs to appeal to younger more 'woke' generations; they will not be able to rely on their faithful older audience for much longer. Young people don't want to be paying a license fee for a service that they don't use, and which doesn't represent them.

Hence all of the highly politicised and 'woke' decisions they now make when it comes to what they cover. Note the new BBC2 drama series 'Pose', as an example; and the fact that they now, reputedly, employ a very high ratio of LGBTQI ( two spirit, one nose, and a unicorn horn) people. Channel 4 is not far behind.

welshgendercrit · 08/05/2019 16:16

Tom Harwood is really very sure he's right.

Thanks for that link R0wantrees. I clicked on it to find that I must have blocked him in the past for being an insufferable twerp. Grin I almost never block, other than for abuse.
