MN have deleted the thread started by Maya - who lost her job for speaking up for women- because it talks about her crowdfunding for legal costs

Here is today's times article on the case https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tax-expert-fired-for-saying-trans-women-aren-t-women-tpqgnm9vj?shareToken=3f12f5cae61c02fd41040eb816fd37b4&wgu=2705255426441557045162977940f0d76fa1&wgexpiry=1564821162&utmmsource=planit&utmmedium=affiliate&utmm_content=22278

Madigan has become irrelevant, which is why they are now up in the ante.

It's just a big effort to appear significant.

Is LM Labour Student's National Woman's officer? Doesn't seem to be on this list.

littlbrowndog · 06/05/2019 10:06

You couldn’t make this stuff up tbh

littlbrowndog · 06/05/2019 10:05

Yeah I just saw the NUS women’s officer on twitter tell maya a woman to go fuck herself

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😔

Popchyk · 06/05/2019 10:02

Cross-posted with dilly.

Statement from Labour Students' National Women's Officer on the case:

"Good. Go fuck yourself".

Interesting to see where Labour positions itself on workers' rights.

That they shouldn't have any.

Labour seems to have evolved into the very opposite of what they used to stand for (mirroring Stonewall's current position that homosexuality is transphobic and wrong).

Which rather begs the question - what is the actual point of the Labour Party?

OvaHere · 06/05/2019 10:00

Does anyone remember the thread where we were discussing the high level Tory MP that wanted to push self ID through at any cost (as alluded to in a Kirkup article)?

We did some digging and discovered that one had recently met with a Pritzker in the US - I think it was Liam Fox (but can't remember for sure unless I find the thread).

dillydallyXX · 06/05/2019 09:59

Charming as ever.

James Kirkup (Spectator) makes some important wider points in the conclusion of the article above:
(extract)
"I should say here that I’ve met Forstater once and discussed her case in broad terms. I don’t claim to know everything about it and I note that CGD has said it cannot discuss staffing matters, but says that all staff ‘are expected to uphold our respectful workplace policy’. So I am not, to be clear for the benefit of the legally-minded, stating as fact that her claims against her former employer are justified.

Reaching such a conclusion is the job of an employment tribunal, and I very much hope Maya Forstater assembles the funds required to put this case to law. Because it really is about a lot more than her and her circumstances, important as they are. It’s about how free people are to express views and state facts which may well be offensive to some people, but which do not remotely justify the loss of livelihood and status. It’s about our ability to disagree with a person without seeking their personal ruin. It’s about accommodating reasonable differences of perspective in private and public debate instead of scouring all contrary views from the public square.

Even if you don’t give a fig about Maya Forstater and the trans issue, I hope you’ll bung her a few quid to ensure her case is properly heard and explored. Because this time, it’s women scared of losing jobs for saying things – respectfully and lawfully – that a few committed and organised men don’t like. But if someone like Maya Forstater can lose her living for saying that someone born male cannot become female, who knows who the targets will be next time?"

TheRedBarrows · 06/05/2019 09:41

The courage this takes is immense.

Not least because as I understand it if you lose you can be found liable for the other party’s costs. So anyone who takes this route needs to know they do have lots of support behind them.

Well done in the investigative research!

I feel this is all so unfair. There are a few people on Maya’s Twitter who do make what I see as insulting transphobic comments. The people who beat up Transpeople, call them names in the street, make offensive jokes, these are the real transphobes and every feminist woman I know would stand alongside Trans folk and fight that kind of prejudice.

And yet women who wish to reserve the right to be defined by their sex and to not have that definition obliterated, whilst supporting the right of anyone at all to extend or break down gender stereotypes, are vilified and attacked.

Wrong war, wrong enemy.

James Kirkup has written a piece on Maya for the Spectator

TimeLady · 06/05/2019 09:05

I'm not suggesting any wrongdoing, but it's evident that the Pritzker family (and their philanthropic billionaire friends) are not people you would want to piss off if you were an organisation reliant on grants and donations.

Huh, just googled JP, another ex-forces mtf...

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/05/2019 08:55

Isn't Spring a lovely time of year?

I just love watching things growing!

Datun · 06/05/2019 08:51

@FiredMaya

Did you know this? About Pritzker and CGD?! They are well known for financially supporting transgenderism, and when you have billions that's fairly significant.

Is this another aspect of regulatory capture?

Lamaha · 06/05/2019 08:36

Well done MN detectives. I spy a nice little project for an investigative journalist here.

TimeLady · 06/05/2019 08:24

Rachel Pritzker isn't listed under the current Board (or former board members). However, she is still a 'partner':

KatvonHostileExtremist · 06/05/2019 08:22

Been interesting watching the furries and the TRA thrashing around claiming this is all a right wing conspiracy.

You didn't know you were all right wing, evangelical, American Christians, did you? I certainly didn't.

If they could only face up to the amount of pissed off women there is, then they might be able to see passed their own issues....

Rachel Pritzker is also listed as a funder in the £20k-£100k category

TimeLady · 06/05/2019 07:23

Interesting report, bettybeans. I spy a Pritzker on the Board of Directors back in 2017. I wonder if that's still the case? Rachel Pritzker's uncle (not a typo) would appear to be Jennifer Pritzker, the 'first transgender billionaire'.

www.insidephilanthropy.com/home/2016/8/23/so-many-pritzkers-so-much-philanthropy-meet-this-top-family.html

Coincidence?

MinecraftMother · 06/05/2019 00:23

Although I know this would be very stressful for Maya, I'm excited at the prospect of this being tested before the Court.

A reasoned judgement would be, I think, quite something to read.

Have given my supports and so will my husband tomorrow.

Best of luck x

OccasionalKite · 06/05/2019 00:14

Thank you for that link, bettybeans.
Quote from the top of page 5:

2017 HIGHLIGHTS
Increasing the Number of Women Peacekeepers

A higher proportion of women in peacekeeping operations is associated with lower rates of sexual violence by peacekeepers and more sustained peace.

So - how do they propose to define and identify "women", then? Eh?!
