Good for her. Penis News are a disgrace.

SunsetBeetch · 03/07/2019 17:59

Oh dear, Penis News.

Last week ⁦*@PinkNews⁩ published a defamatory story about me. I’m pleased to have secured a full apology, a donation to a charity of my choice - @UKLGIG* - & full payment of my legal costs. Their apology and my statement are here. t.co/APLzed4bLr

Ooh I like "born, not worn" Grin

I also like this single ray of sunshine in the darkness that is usually Twitter mods.

I know what hope leads to though, so I will watch this space.

Is the tide turning? Someone reported my tweet presumably for telling the truth and Twitter found NO VIOLATIONS. And here's me, a woman. Perhaps they're frightened I'm trans.

Destiny, Cherry is a senior advocate here in Scotland (barrister equivalent) - she’s a QC as well as MP. It shows we benefit from skilled MPs who engage with seemingly unpopular (if actually a view held by the quiet majority) issues affecting disadvantaged groups. I’m not fussed if they’re male or female as long as they do these things. I mean Penny Mordaunt is a female MP...

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 07/05/2019 13:00

That Suzanne Moore article is great, thanks for posting Ewe

I wonder how the lefty guardian readers square that with their support for toxic transactivism

RedToothBrush · 07/05/2019 08:50

Twitter is gamer gate magnified.

I took the decision to leave other social media and just stick to Mumsnet about 10 years ago PRECISELY because of the abuse and culture elsewhere which was so hateful to women.

It was just not worth the mansplaining, abuse or harassment.

I read twitter but do not post.

Something has to change.

This seems to be the article in question.

The article was put online and was then deleted (possibly online before it was due to as its front page tomorrow)

The abuse on social media directed at Ms Cherry followed an evidence session of the Joint Committee on Human Rights[JCHR] at Westminster as it undertook an investigation into democracy and freedom of speech. During the session the SNP MP questioned representatives from Facebook and Twitter about the abuse of women MPs and women more generally on social media.

This later led to what Ms Cherry’s office described as a “large number of unpleasant tweets”. But one particularly caused alarm, which was different from the others and could have been regarded as a direct threat to the MP’s health and safety and confirmed her whereabouts at a certain time and place.

Advice was sought from the Metropolitan Police and Police Scotland, which subsequently interviewed Ms Cherry’s constituency staff and provided the protection from two uniformed officers “as a precaution”.

RedToothBrush · 05/05/2019 23:08

Front page of tomorrow's herald has something about Cherry being given police protection after death threats. I can't read the detail of why, but worth looking for tomorrow

She's also commented on the Swansea protest where Stonewall called the police on lesbians holding banners saying lesbians don't have penises, saying it's "Orwellian".

I look forward to my male colleagues quoted in this article being equally condemnatory of the vile misogyny on @twitter which has so escalated that I had to have a police escort at my constituency surgery after I called it out at @HumanRightsCtte #onlineabuse

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 03/05/2019 21:00

They honestly can't even stop themselves posting abuse can they?

So very masculine of them.

theOtherPamAyres · 03/05/2019 19:55

Joanna received a threat that was serious enough for the police to be in attendance while she conducted her Saturday surgery.

In the light of that, will Police Scotland now take time out to reflect on the one-sided nature of threats to women standing up for women? Will Twitter now accept the evidence that women who stand up for women are a target for hatred and serious threats of violence?

More importantly, will female MPs show some solidarity with Joanna Cherry, an MP who stood up for THEM? I won't hold my breath.

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/05/2019 19:06

More and more respect growing for Joanna Cherry. Women who stand up for women and stand their ground, we need a whole lot more of them in politics.

Also exposing absolutely beautifully that any woman standing up for current law and women's rights is now 'transphobic'.

Genderfreelass · 03/05/2019 18:50

Joanna and Joan McAlpine are doing an amazing job. MH is being a bit of a numpty as always, the post about standing by election promises - Joan and Joanna are, women by law are a protected characterist and deserve equality, the vast majority of AGPs do not come under any protected characteristic as they are predominately fully intact white males!

EweSurname · 03/05/2019 18:04

She's following up!

Meantime here’s what @twitter think about some of the abuse I have received since I elicited evidence about issues with their moderation policy at @HumanRightsCtte. It’s not good enough & contradicts the evidence of @katyminshall #onlineabuse

So @twitter @katyminshall what is it about the context of this @theSNP campaign tweet which means the response of “Shut the fuck up. Terf.” With a hand pointing a gun is not abusive behaviour? I can’t wait to hear. #onlineabuse

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 03/05/2019 13:47

I liked this response:

Naebody who wants to change it seems keen tae be gaun roon the doors wi leaflets stating what the change is, why, and having a chat wi voters on the doorstep

Shall we bet on the reason why that seems to be the case?

Because they know what sunlight will do their their fragile "reasons".

EweSurname · 03/05/2019 13:41

Mhari Hunter is subtweeting (and then said she's not "entering into further correspondence upon this matter" Hmm)

Just a wee reminder of the SNP 2016 manifesto which every SNP candidate was elected on. Call me old fashioned, but if you want to change party policy you should ask the party first.

The SNP manifesto also supports equality for women & lesbians & condemns abuse against women. Where rights may compete there should be respectful debate not an attempt to shut down debate & #freespeech by stigmatisation. I’m sure @SASomerville would agree

R0wantrees · 03/05/2019 09:28

The challenge & complaint is with twitter & those who have used/abused power within the organisation to silence and enable harrassment of women.

They will be male.

Aww Katy Minshall done up like a kipper by Joanna Cherry - was awesome. Star

Buzz interested typo considering the fig leaf comments.... thrown under the boss Grin

AnyOld I don’t have a twitter account, and can’t see how to report a tweet but this account is still sharing that meme:
mobile.twitter.com/daisybanaisy/status/1123664661927354368

Dunno how worth while reporting is tho, as that tweet has been retweeted 1.1k times, so feels a bit finger in a dyke.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 03/05/2019 01:19

The video wont play for me but will watch on my better computer tomorrow. Her twitter feed seems mainly support, peppered by a few misogynist asshats who are still attempting to claim that terf is not a slur and is simply an acronym that refers to both males and females equally Hmm Would think they would drop that one really given the amount of proof of its usage. Meanwhile other misogynist asshats just yelling 'shut the fuck up terf bitch!' and such. Because that doesn't rather prove her point.

Datun · 03/05/2019 00:35

Claire/MRKH is back on twitter. I wonder if Joanne's questions did that.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 02/05/2019 22:22

Tbh I thought sending in that young woman was just another act of misogyny on Twitter's behalf. Make one of your big male, moderator bully-boys take the flak, you absolute bunch of moral cowards.

Yes.

Thank you for sharing OP. It fills me with hope that people like Joanne Cherry are MPs. I have no doubt she is on MN Grin. I hope the Twitter lady pops in to this board, too Grin

Mumfun · 02/05/2019 22:20

Twitter are breaking the law in offering a different service to females as to males on the platform. Wish someone would take them to court over it!
