Extraordinary. Buck reacts to someone saying the word transexual hurts people's identities:

Well done Buck for championing trans services rather than trying to take away women's services. It is surely so much more appropriate as staff can be trained specifically in dealing with trans people and there needs.

FloralBunting · 10/05/2019 12:41

I’ve always said I would be happy to join the fight for trans rights if trans activists were asking for solidarity in matters of inequality that have a material basis

So much this. In fact, before I was repeatedly called terrible things by Anti-woman transactivists and led down the rabbit hole by their behaviour to see the awful, inexcusable things they endorse, I was very much in the 'Of course I am an ally of trans people and they should have all the basic rights everyone else enjoys'.

That is still my position, but the AWAs weren't asking for that, they were asking to demolish women's rights and expecting us to roll over and let them.

If someone were to actually do what Buck is doing, I would have been on board from the get go.

DuMondeB · 10/05/2019 11:57

Buck - the ‘terves and swerves’ of Mumsnet are here with Gin if you need us!

I’ve always said I would be happy to join the fight for trans rights if trans activists were asking for solidarity in matters of inequality that have a material basis - wtf is going on with trans people and HIV rates in the US (especially black transwomen) for example? And if Transmen are being missed off of U.K. cervical cancer screening, for example, why aren’t we looking for ways to record sex and gender identity as seperate categories, so that transmen get a cervical screening letter addressed to ‘Mr’ AND an opportunity to make an appointment with a staff member with extra trans sensitivity training? Hell, big cities could probably offer occasional days where all patients attending are trans or NB identified people .
What about elderly transpeople with dementia, who are struggling with their modified bodies and minds that don’t remember why they had those surgeries?

Creating a legal fiction and overwriting birth certificates is bad for sex based rights, and bad for the actual health and well being of transpeople.
One of the recent school shooters in Colorado is a 16 year old FtM person - transgender Redditors are saying ‘this makes us look bad’ and ‘the sheriff has misgendered him, this is unacceptable’. Yet terfy ol’ me over here is worried about where this female bodied, 16 year old person is being held, because insisting on calling this mentally unhealthy vulnerable young person ‘him’ has an end point of putting them in a male jail/prison/secure psychiatric facility - why are pronouns are higher priority than physical safety and minimising the risk of sexual assault?

So yes, well done to Buck for supporting and fundraising for a trans specific shelter - addressing a material need in the trans population without overriding the rights of women.
This isn’t ‘segregation’, it’s thoughtful, tailored services for different groups of vulnerable people.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/05/2019 11:15

Buck has also been posting about a shelter for homeless and ex-prisoner nb/trans people thatthey are raising money for. This is Buck doing what we've always wished trans people would do: put their time, money and energy into creating trans-specific services, rather than simply stealing women's services and excluding women from those services.

I'm genuinely impressed.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 10/05/2019 00:20

Buck has been posting or retweeting lots about detransitioners lately too, and saying this needs to be talked about more/defending them against the aggressive TRAs! Go Buck!

ArcheryAnnie · 09/05/2019 22:59

It's also another signal that if you are female-bodied, it doesn't matter how far you go down this route, there is nothing that will protect you from all the "bigot", "evil cunt", "TERF", etc, etc, stuff. As well as being trans, and a poster child for every TRA who posts Buck's picture with a "DO YOU WANT BUCK PEEING IN THE LADIES? HUH? HUH? GOTCHA!" message, Buck is also an adult film star. There is nobody female who has distanced themselves further from "SWERF" and "TERF" than Buck, for the best part of thirty years.

Except there is Buck, physically-transitioned Buck, trans trailblazer Buck, getting called "bigot", "TERF" and "transphobe" by a bunch of blue-haired babies.

ArcheryAnnie · 09/05/2019 22:54

I feel a bit mumsy-worried when a transitioned person starts to take on GC arguments - it must be quite emotionally stressful, when the logic part of your brain says one thing, but the dysphoric part has dictated your life story so far

I resemble this remark. It's one of the reasons I take my hat off to Miranda, who has voluntarily let go of all the language which previously signalled that Miranda wanted to be perceived as female. It's the right thing to do, but by god it can't have been easy.

I am very reassured by Buck's uncompromising "FUCK YOU" responses, though. (I resemble that remark, too!)

Pepvixen · 09/05/2019 21:12

Completely predictably Buck is being called a TERF.

Coyoacan · 05/05/2019 05:44

Has anyone seen this thread on twitter?
twitter.com/yooniefucks/status/1123572333267030016

This young transperson, after years of dysphoria suddenly found that the dysphoria had disappeared and is detransitioning. But the reaction of the TRAs is something to behold.

BettyDuMonde · 04/05/2019 18:39

I found the Miranda Yardley/Kinesha YouTube upload really moving in parts (especially towards the end). Miranda points out that Kinesha is looking for self-soothing loopholes/tells Kinesha that Kinesha will never truly pass/asks why Kinesha can’t fulfil their life ambitions as a feminine man?

It feels like spying on a private therapy session, it’s so intimate.

Miranda is a fantastic, realistic mentor/supporter of younger trans identifying people (you can see it in Miranda’s friendship with Fionne).

Perhaps Buck will take up a similar position in time?

IKWYM I’ve seen posts on here from trans people trying to reconcile their transsexual status with their new understanding of GC arguments. Total headfuck for them. Sad

Genderfreelass · 04/05/2019 16:02

Wow! The trans that 90% of the public consider as trans are now transphobic!

Fair play to Buck and several others on the thread that just got peak trans'd

FloralBunting · 04/05/2019 15:34

Fucking hell. Buck, mate, all power to you. If you are engaging with this, I am so pleased that you have a chance to hear the voices of women who very definitely want the best for you, want you to live your life as you wish, free from unfair discrimination and certainly being able to access decent, effective healthcare. We are not enemies. Most of us only ever wanted to be allies. Much respect for not shutting down the conversation.

Bluestitch · 04/05/2019 12:35

TRAs won't be happy, they regularly use Buck as a weapon in their arguments for access to bathrooms etc. Just awaiting Harrop, Comerford et al to start lecturing him on his wrongthink now.

BettyDuMonde · 04/05/2019 11:59

Wow.

Luckily for Buck, there is already a small number of people in Buck’s position to connect with. Must’ve been really pretty shit for the trailblazers like Miranda.

SunsetBeetch · 04/05/2019 11:49

Well. Buck has now tweeted this:

WATCH THIS!!’A Woman's Place is on the Frontline, Kristina Jayne Harrison, Hastings ... t.co/UrD4PJnm6Y via @YouTube #transsexual #valid #sexchange

I think this just highlights the extreme views the tra’s hold. It is literally their way only...#nodebate was just aimed at women but anyone challenging the group think.

I think this extreme-ism is evident to a lesser extent when you look at other areas of this age group 18-24. Tribalism around influencers, celebrities, politics .... it’s very extreme. I can’t think of a better word.

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/04/2019 09:24

Miranda has a temp suspension from Facebook for for saying tranny earlier this year.

SevenHex commented on Miranda's suspension and threw in a load of extra Ts for good measure. Received a warning and possibly suspended also, I can't remember. I did chuckle.

SarahTancredi · 30/04/2019 09:21

It's also a chilling reminder of the damage this new wave of activists are doing to the cause.

They will be the reason people have enough of all of it. And people like buck who just wanted to go along with their life minding their own business having fought for the right to not be discriminated against are the ones who will suffer the most.

Datun · 30/04/2019 09:11

The only way to counter trans ideology is using consistent, relentless logic to blow a hole through the middle of it. Unfortunately that's an option that Buck Angel doesn't have.

The argument that says I can do more impossible things than you can, doesn't really wash. 'i've changed sex more than you have', might be a testament to the number of surgeries, but that's merely about quantity.

Lamaha · 30/04/2019 09:08

You gotto love one of the replies on that thread:

Absolutely Agree!! Im not Trans, but i feel a DEEP respect for Trans people we (Gays and Lesbians) are in a HUGE debt with the Trans community all the advances we have today are because TRANS people fight for us! So lets RESPECT, SUPPORT AND LOVE them like they DESERVE!

Guess this person has not yet been informed that it's transphobic to be gay or lesbian.

Melioration · 30/04/2019 09:08

Sadly, Floral, you are spot on there. With so many youngsters being referred to GIDS being female, this will probably be a growing issue. Trans men are more acceptable, initially, in male space because they can be easily dismissed.

FloralBunting · 30/04/2019 08:45

Yeah, Buck won't thank me for pointing it out, but Buck isn't the sex that gets all the soothing strokes for being angry about other people who disagree with them. Therefore Buck is going to cop some flak for this from the shitty grifters in Buck's movement who demand people patreon them money for being trans etc.

If Buck had ever had an actual male anatomy they could say what they want. Sadly for Buck, they haven't so their opinions and anger mean fuck all to these people.

BettyDuMonde · 30/04/2019 08:18

The attempt to take away the term ‘transsexual’ (and indeed, it’s colloquial diminutive ‘tr*y’) from those who have come to terms with it as a descriptor for their own experience reminds me of the removal of ‘Asperger Syndrome’ from the DSM 5. People who had been content to self describe as ‘aspies’ had that language taken from them.

There were sound political and practical reasons for the switch to ASD (and I suppose you could argue that as no one actually changes sex, there is a sound reason for retiring ‘transsexual’ too) but unlike Asperger/ASD, retiring transsexual does absolutely nothing in practical terms for those whom’s life experience it is currently used to describe.

It’s a different battle to ours, but it’s a strikingly similar situation, fought on the same battlegrounds against the same TRA enemies.

Bluestitch · 30/04/2019 08:09

Just in case there was any doubt that it's only transwomen who matter to TRAs.
