Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

In general, what do you feel about The LGBT Foundation using a 'gender fluid' person to promote lesbian visibility day?

No links. No judgement of any one perticular person.

Just a discussion about the GENERAL situation as my original post was removed for not being in the spirit

Yet another lesbian deletion.

Am really getting fucking sick if this.

GrumpyGran8 and the biological sex of the person in the photo was indeterminate.

Had this been the case, if would have been less of an insult to female homosexuals. As it was, they chose to centre someone who was obviously neither female nor, therefore, homosexual.

As "woman" is merely the signifier for adult human female, it matters not one bit whether a woman identifies as trans, non-binary, agender, gender fluid or a fucking unicorn. If she is exclusively attracted to other females, she is a female homosexual aka a lesbian.

It's a SEXual orientation, not a GENDERal orientation.

Like another PP I'm beginning to truly understand the importance of and the threat to the patriarchy inherent in political lesbianism.

This lesbian erasure is hateful and unacceptable and so blatantly public I find it hard not to despair and I am straight! Cannot even begin to imagine what this must feel like for lesbians (the cunty type who love other cunty types).

Genderfreelass · 26/04/2019 21:44

I'm with you OP a lesbian is a female attracted to other females, it is a SEXual orientation not gender orientation.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 26/04/2019 21:40

Apologies for any confusion duchess I totally agree with you, and the OP! I didn't mean that what you actually posted was bollocks, rather the whole situation as a whole (summed up nicely by your post) is bollocks.

Sorry if I worded my post badly. The level of obfuscation and erasure around this infuriates me so much (and I'm not a lesbian, but I'm a woman and I know what a woman is). It makes me inarticulate, apologies.

littlbrowndog · 26/04/2019 21:36

It is anyoldprion.

Fucking disgrace

littlbrowndog · 26/04/2019 21:35

The6 must all be coked up to explain this shite

AnyOldPrion · 26/04/2019 21:34

It’s shitty Chris. That lesbians cannot have their own day of visibility without the trans agenda being shoved down everyone’s throat is sickening. Sorry you”ve had a crap day.

I made a point of going out and buying a small gift and card for the teenage lesbian who lives across the road from me. I have a card waiting for my lesbian daughter from one of the wonderful lesbian activists on Twitter.

Lesbian identities should be celebrated. I hope, in time, that more and more women will stand up and say so and these men, who are determined to appropriate every fucking thing will be pushed aside.

MN, I don’t normally comment on your moderation as I understand the current situation is difficult. But this is a site for women, and this is a day that should be set aside for women. In the circumstances, anger is natural. The idea that the women who are being displaced shouldn’t be able to express that for fear of upsetting men is very wrong.

littlbrowndog · 26/04/2019 21:34

It must be drug taking. Only way this shite can be real,

BitOfFun · 26/04/2019 21:32

NotTheDuchess, I think you've misread that- I don't think that your words were being called "bollocks".

MIdgebabe · 26/04/2019 21:29

the struggles of transwomen who love women well didn’t we have a trans day? I mean I realise it must be really hard to find a partner, but trying to force women to love them is doomed to failure as well as being incredibly sexist.

OhHolyJesus · 26/04/2019 21:28

Any comments I make will be deleted. Put it this way, I was not best pleased.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/04/2019 21:23

It's gaslighting.

It's misogyny.

I'm so sorry men are going this to you.

Nottheduchess · 26/04/2019 21:22

webuiltciscity why pick up on my post? I am agreeing with the OP Hmm
I am saying, just because they don’t have descriptive names of their own, doesn’t mean they can claim to be something else!

Ereshkigal · 26/04/2019 21:21

Because they think they should have everything, Chris. Pure entitlement.

Ereshkigal · 26/04/2019 21:20

Perfect translation, Michelle.

Michelleoftheresistance · 26/04/2019 21:20

I'm so sorry that a day to celebrate you and all (actual) lesbians has become a day of erasure.

Lets face it, all these 'days' to 'celebrate' about 'visibility' have all become sentimentalised, insincere, meaningless and gesture politics wankery. Its social justice as packaged by Hallmark.

ChrisPrattAteMyHomework · 26/04/2019 21:17

What's wrong with being bisexual? Or even pansexual if you want a special name?

Why steal and warp another's name.

If, as a biological woman, I suddenly decided I identify as a transwoman and referred to myself as such there would be uproar.

The struggles of trans women who love women should also be acknowledged today. Trans women face daily abuse in the press and specific challenges that other LB women may not experience. Their right to use a dressing room or toilet is being debated online and via news outlets and as fellow women within the LGBTQ+ community we must do our best to support them and use our privilege to speak up for them when it is safe to do so.

Oh lets run that through the universal bullshit translator.

The struggles of trans women who love women heterosexual men who choose to identify as women should also be acknowledged today. Transwomen face daily abuse in the press and specific challenges that other LB women may not experience. Their right The right of male born people to use (women only) dressing rooms or toilets (and invade the privacy, dignity and safety of women who do not believe in genderism and perceive them as males in their spaces where they feel most vulnerable) is (obviously) being debated online and via news outlets (as a massive attempted infringement of women's rights, their protections in law and an attempt by men based on their male entitlement to redefine women to their own benefit against the consent and interests of a huge number of the population) and as fellow women women who don't want to be the target of abuse, experience death and rape threats or be excluded within from the LGBTQ+ community we must do our best to support them these males and use our privilege to speak up for them when it is safe to do so likely that no one will do anything mean like point out that other people have rights too.

GrumpyGran8 · 26/04/2019 21:16

If the gender fluid persons sex is female and they are exclusively attracted to other women (females) aka are a lesbian then they can crack on
The OP's point is that the LGBT Foundation chose to share, on Lesbian Visibility day, a picture of a person who described themselves as "a genderfluid/genderqueer/non-binary lesbian". The word "woman" appeared nowhere in the post and the biological sex of the person in the photo was indeterminate.
I'm not a lesbian, but the OP had every right to be upset. Lesbians are women and they are perfectly clear about their gender, which is homosexual female, not "non-binary", "genderfluid" or any of the other zillion rainbow labels.

MIdgebabe · 26/04/2019 21:16

Well it shouldn’t be someone who is biologically Male, obs. Beginning to guess that is what has actually happened? Just say8ng gender is irrelevent. It should not matter what’s the person wears, what types of work and hobbies they do, or how they tilt their head for photographs.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 26/04/2019 21:14

And we also have a word for men who have a penis and insist women should accept sex involving that penis when they don't want to.

Ereshkigal · 26/04/2019 21:14

I'm sorry too OP. It's utterly shitty and not in any way "inclusive" of you ThanksWine

StopThePlanet · 26/04/2019 21:13

I've actually CRIED today as a woman who has had many LESBIAN relationships I've felt completely erased and uncomfortable today.

OP I'm so sorry that a day to celebrate you and all (actual) lesbians has become a day of erasure.

I stand with you and celebrate you, your words, and right to choose your partners. Flowers

Rubidium · 26/04/2019 21:12

Meanwhile, over on Twitter, Pink News put up a film of lesbians telling us how proud that are to be visible lesbians, including the inevitable 'lesbian' who is visibly in possision of a Y chromosome.

Something the people commenting below the tweet have clearly noticed.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 26/04/2019 21:12

"A lesbian is a woman who is attracted to other women, so surely someone who is gender fluid can’t be a lesbian as they are not a woman? So they’ll need to find a word that describes a person that is gender fluid that is attracted to women to differentiate between that of a gender fluid person that is attracted to men (which they’ll also need a name for) and a gender fluid person that is attracted to gender fluid persons (which they will also need a name for)"

I have a name for this.

Bollocks.

titchy · 26/04/2019 21:10

I'm not a lesbian - but it's an absolute insult to lesbians to have a male fronting the promotion. An insult. A big old 'fuck you' to lesbians everywhere. Except the XY kind obviously. Angry
