This is sickening: www.nytimes.com/2019/03/06/theater/maddie-corman-accidentally-brave.html

There's another interview in the Times too. All about how awful it's been for her and zero concern for the children who were raped for her husband's sexual pleasure.

Ben Stiller is gushing on twitter.

Grim.

No. It is not sad for that reason. This woman is an adult making her own choices. She is furthering her career because of this. There's always someone comes along making excuses, no matter how badly a woman has behaved.

I'm in agreement with you - I wasn't making excuses for her. If you read my preceding post I think you would get my meaning. My apologies if I was not clear.

She has no recourse, no excuse, no way to talk her way out of it.

Quoting my preceding post to that which you responded for clarification, [h]ow can people make excuses for this situation? What is wrong with people? No one cares that these little girls' lives may have been ruined by this abuse and now videos of them being sexually abused circulate on the web.

Maddie and Jace don't deserve empathy or sympathy or concern. Maddie isn't fit to be a parent - shown by keeping her children in the same home as a pedophile. Jace should be in prison and should never have contact with children not even his own children unless supervised (not by Maddie) but by a court-appointed chaperone.

My point in stating [i]t's really quite sad isn't it? ... was more of a general statement in relation to women with internalized misogyny feeling they are worthless without a man leading (I know some - I love them but their outlook makes my brain bleed).

I wasn't referring specifically to Maddie but to women with those perspectives in general. Reading back I wasn't very clear... about generalizing or my tone. Sometimes I forget that I am crazy animated - you can't see or hear my snarkiness (I am a very physical expresser and speak out loud while writing posts with all the flair Blush). And now I realize my snarkiness was kind of asshole-ish and didn't read as intended. My apologies. I meant what I said but I didn't communicate effectively via text and should have left out the leading sad comment. If anything I should have checked my snark as it is my responsibility to help women of the aforementioned perspective to see the light not to denigrate them. Bad feminist, ^^

Yea the abused becoming an abuser bollocks is mostly debunked now.

It's no excuse! Even IF it's true (which I'm deeply sceptical of and certainly doesn't excuse her actions!)

I'd also like to know wtf the producers, backstage workers and theatre where this is being performed were thinking in agreeing to be involved!

Moralitym1n1 · 19/04/2019 22:08

*how

Moralitym1n1 · 19/04/2019 22:07

They are both trying to position themselves as victims of pornography

So did Ted Bundy.

Also the implication he was abused himself is an older than the pyramids line abusers use. Funny his lots of victims of abuse don't abuse children when they grow up, because they don't want anyone to suffer what they did and are decent people.

Graphista · 19/04/2019 21:31

Completely and utterly disgraceful!

Wtaf the likes of mariska and Ben are thinking by aligning themselves with these disgusting people?!

Judging by the responses on Twitter though they could well have shot themselves in the foot in terms of loads of people vilifying them for this and saying they'll never watch their work again.

But honestly it's getting to the point what/who can we watch?!

If actors, directors etc aren't offenders themselves then they're supporting these creeps!

We NEED to do what we can to hit em where it hurts - in the box office!

Stop watching & buying the shows and films not only the perpetrators profit from but their sympathisers too AND tell them, the studios etc who employ and support them that we are doing this and why.

I have never and will never watch anything relating to Polanski, woody Alan etc I've contacted several radio stations regarding the playing of Michael Jacksons music and I turn off if it comes on and again would never buy it.

It may seem a small action but if enough of us do it, it will affect profits and if for no other reason than they're losing money as a result then these disgusting perverts will find it harder to find employment.

We have to stand by OUR Convictions too.

It's really quite sad isn't it? Internalized misogyny to a point where a woman feels she has no value unless there is a man walking in front of her... leading the way and parsing out the woman's allowed thoughts/behaviors. I don't think the women who exist this way have any understanding of what they have succumbed to because they chose their indoctrination or were indoctrinated before they had a chance to make that choice

Jeez.. some women. Any man is better than no man mentality.

What concerns me even more is the little girls who follow in these women's footsteps.

Bookworm4 · 19/04/2019 20:05

*brave not brace

Bookworm4 · 19/04/2019 20:04

It's very odd that celebs are supporting her yet careers have been destroyed in the #metoo movement; the majority without convictions yet here her husband is a convicted sex offender and they're brace!!
Double standards are breathtaking 😡

Erythronium · 19/04/2019 19:02

Luvvies like child rapists/abusers. Remember how they all rallied round Roman Polanski.

Erythronium · 19/04/2019 19:00

How on earth is it "brave" to stay married to a convicted paedophile? It's the cowards way out. Her bar is so low it's underground.

The other childen being ignored here are hers. What is she thinking of republicising what their father did by writing a play about it, which will only be successful if lots of people hear about it and go to see it? It will be awful for them to be confronted publicly again with his crimes and know that everyone else knows as well.

Really it's just disgusting. Disgusting that she thinks that this is worthwhile material for a play, disgusting that she is being feted for staying with this person. Most of all it's disgusting and evil what he did.

JustAnotherWoman · 19/04/2019 18:46

Coyoacan I hadn't realised it was curtailing the lives of children to quite that extent in place she like Mexico.

Obviously it's horrific for the children abused like this but the ripple out impact affects more than I'd realised.

Anyone supporting men who fuel this industry is abhorrent

Given she says she didn't know he used porn, I'm rather surprised she feels she can be so confident that he's not physically abused their own children or any others.

Who is funding his documentary (and her play, come to that)? They should be left in no doubt of the damage to their reputation done by funding a child abuser to publicise himself and his acts further.

failingatlife · 19/04/2019 18:12

I don't understand why their children were not removed.

I was wondering the same.

Daughterofmabel · 19/04/2019 18:10

Gingerkittykat · 19/04/2019 17:52

Why am I not surprised that behind every sex offender there is a woman who will happily excuse him and speak for him. It means he has a buffer between himself and the wold who will rightly condemn him as all of the anger is directed towards the wife.

Don't get me wrong, I am angry with her too but the worst of the backlash should be directed at him and not her.

StopThePlanet · 19/04/2019 17:39

As if my post wasn't long enough, one last thing...

All profits for her ill-conceived play should go to the victims of her husband's desire. The fact that Jace is making a documentary about being a victim of porn is so insanely fucked up I can't find the words to express my disgust.

The celebs supporting them are just as delusional and repulsive as they are.

WombOfOnesOwn · 19/04/2019 17:38

It's not dismissive to call images of child sexual abuse "child pornography," because very nearly ALL pornography, almost without exception, involves images of abuse. If it's not an image of abuse, it's a clear exception, not the rule.

And that's how these men lose their humanity. They start by watching images of abuse of adult women, and once they're totally desensitized to the suffering of at least nominally consenting women, they move on to watching young girls suffering.

It's impossible for men, as a class, to believe in the humanity of girls when their primary sexual entertainment is watching the dehumanization of women.

In that way, pointing the finger at porn is exactly right. But all this proud and brave stuff is embarrassing. Bravery would have been poisoning his stew and telling him "this is for those little girls" as he realized he'd been poisoned.

StopThePlanet · 19/04/2019 17:31

Majority of replies show how difficult the choice is. It’s not a choice most of us think we would make.

It is a very easy choice if you (1) have any self-respect whatsoever, (2) care about the welfare of children, (3) are committed to safeguarding your own children.

She's not a victim, Jace isn't a victim - they are poor excuses for human beings. There are so many things that can be forgiven but keeping a known pedophile in your home with your children is unforgivable. Waxing poetic about your victimhood, and gushing about what a good father the pedophile is is completely delusional, self-absorbed, and repulsive.

What about the twelve-year-old, what about the six-year-old? These little girls will never be the same.

How can people make excuses for this situation? What is wrong with people? No one cares that these little girls' lives may have been ruined by this abuse and now videos of them being sexually abused circulate on the web.

Maddie and Jace don't deserve empathy or sympathy or concern. Maddie isn't fit to be a parent - shown by keeping her children in the same home as a pedophile. Jace should be in prison and should never have contact with children not even his own children unless supervised (not by Maddie) but by a court-appointed chaperone. In prison he would likely receive just treatment for his crimes (from inmates), he would find out very quickly exactly what it's like to be violated - but any sexual abuse he may receive would still never come close to what he paid to have happen to those little girls.

Hopefully he never touched their children - but no one will know unless they eventually find the confidence to report any abuse.

I would not want to agree with her choices but would defend her right to make them.

Yeah sure whatever she has a right to make whatever decision she wants. But just because she has a right to make a decision doesn't mean it's a good decision or that it's a moral decision or that it's in the best interest of her children.

Personally, if my partner was found to have committed such an atrocious act I would be at the forefront of a mob insisting on his imprisonment. I would condemn him far and wide - all love for him would disappear upon his confession because the person I believed him to be would have been a lie.

People that sexually abuse children do not deserve a life they do not deserve freedom or comfort they deserve to spend the remainder of their lives under state surveillance (post prison release). Child sexual abusers deserve nothing except to be forced to devote their lives to ensuring that their victims have all of the psychological support they need.

IDGAF what Jace's childhood was like we all make choices. I get it he was apparently abused as a child - that's pretty common unfortunately. But as soon as an adult makes the choice to abuse a child they lose all credibility and their childhood demons cease to matter.

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/04/2019 17:26

I bet he'll have to watch a lot of porn, to make that documentary about porn.

I thought exactly the same tinsel.

MindTheMinotaur · 19/04/2019 17:25

I read The Times article. As others have said, her behaviour is repulsive and utterly tonedeath. Profiting from child rape while painting oneself as the victim is beyond most people's comprehension.

Hearhere · 19/04/2019 16:58

I agree, these 2 seem to be following the narcissist playbook
