Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Do your kids love James Charles? He's currently under twitter-attack!

Thought it might be useful to separate this from the John Boyne thread right now, as it's a slightly different subject.

James - he's challenging the stereotypes of who loves make-up, who does what. Many tweens and teenagers will be following James.

James loves make-up, crashing stereotypes of what 'men' are.

James discusses in his latest youtube video on who he thinks are hot.

He's brave enough to discuss his sexuality on that video, and the old-fashioned Kinsey scale.

His friend:
So you're not full gay?

James:
There have been girls I've thought are truly beautiful, and also trans guys I've been really into or a moment in time

This has led to James being villified:

He also refers to himself later on in the video as: I still idenitfy myself as a guy, but I still call myself as a woman, as a joke. (Thanks James, not)

As you'll see from the Twitter thread linked above, James's comments in his YouTube video have caused ructions. Even James should never, ever, go there to suggest sex is a thing!

I'm sorry but I don't believe anybody really thinks TMAM and TWAW, not really really!

It's a very thin veneer which is easily cracked, and this is what happened here. A bit of over confidence and joking around and oops, you've said something wrong which will tarnish your reputation forever.

It must be absolutely exhausting for everyone on social media to keep it up.

@pombear

www.gaystarnews.com/article/james-charles-apologizes-implying-trans-men/#gs.62lvdo

From that article:- another person tweeted: ‘James Charles if your (sic) a attracted to a man who has a vagina, it doesn’t make you straight.’

Some people thanked Charles for his apology, but for others, the apology didn’t go far enough.

One person replied: ‘you said that being attracted to trans men makes you less gay. this tweet does NOT cover what you said even slightly. you fully implied that trans men are not real men. you can spout “you’re valid” bullshit all you want but that is NOT why people are mad at you.’

Another tweeted: ‘he clearly said something that invalidated a whole group of people! especially as an lgbt influencer with such a large following, he needs to fo (sic) better! this apology is not enough.’

AKA: James, despite being part of the LGBT, he's not doing enough in the T in the LGBt - so the message from the 'T' seems to be:

DO MORE, BE MORE, NOTHING ELSE IS ENOUGH. WHAT'S ENOUGH, YOU ASK?

MAYBE YOU'RE NOT SURE WHAT THE 'DO MORE' IS?

IT'S EVERYTHING WE SAY, EVERYTHING WE DECIDE. AND IF WE HAVEN'T DECIDED IT ALREADY, IT'LL BE WHAT WE DECIDE TOMORROW!

Where has this idea come from that we are all required to 'validate' other people? Nobody is actually duty bound to validate another person particularly if what they see/think is at odds with that validation.

It is sad he is being attacked he seems like a lovely GNC young man who is trying to toe the line. As ever, it never seems to be sufficient.
Prostate yourself lower James (actually don't - don't capitulate, it won't be enough.)

The despicable 'cotton ceiling' was one of the things which first alerted me to the problems with ;gender ideology' and I see more and more gay men being targeted too now. We all have to stand up against this kind of bullying, it is rolling back everything LGB originally fought so hard for.

I think this guy lives in New York where the age of consent 17? And disparity of power and his age (now 21)?

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 21/04/2019 17:25

TRAs starting to treat gay men the same as they treat lesbians might well be the end of all this rubbish. I thought they would stay away from this as surely they know, but it seems some are daft enough to go down that route. Same as they know sunlight is bad for their 'cause' yet for some reason cannot stop themselves going to the media..Harrop style, and gaining it all more attention!

FeministCat · 21/04/2019 17:13

I am not of that You Tube generation but I am familiar with James Charles.

I think when TRAs start going after gay men for having “genital preferences” they will quickly want to undo what they have just done when they realize that in terms of the woke they went a step too far.

Society, media, and the woke don’t want to listen to women and lesbians (sad to say), but gay men are, well, men, and have a lot more power and “allies” in media and popular culture.

There are also still enough people around who remember these homophobic attitudes of “men should just sleep with women” meant little was being done to figure out why thousands of gay men were suddenly dying.

I think even among the woke crowd, if they have to turn on their gay male best friends forever to support trans ideology...it will be just one “ask” too far.

It will also not be too hard for straight men - who have even more power than gay men - to realize they are next.

Seventeen severely reprimands Charles:

www.seventeen.com/beauty/celeb-beauty/a27206616/james-charles-addresses-transgender-comment/

Talk about kicking people into the correct party line!
While it's clear James didn't make the comment with hateful intent, the fact that he seemed to put cisgender women and trans men in the same category is incredibly harmful. His wording implies that transgender men are not fully men, which is not only incorrect, it's also a very dangerous stereotype to promote. Trans men are men. Period.

This is getting tiring.

Lamaha · 17/04/2019 13:15

Talk about shooting oneself in the foot....! Grin

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 17/04/2019 12:03

Watching with interest. The TRAs turning their wrath on gay men instead of telling lesbians they must learn to love dick, should be very very interesting.

SD1978 · 17/04/2019 10:42

Sorry @cattycattycat!

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 17/04/2019 09:45

My DD and DS (young teens) are really into YouTube, so I’ve seen a lot of James Charles and Jeffree Star videos (not really who they are into but they like Shane Dawson, so it’s the same crowd). I really liked that both JC and JS are unapologetically men with an appreciation for make up. They clearly don’t conform to gender stereotyping and do so in front of millions of people weekly. I’m not overly keen on the use of “bitch” being thrown around by this crowd.

On this topic I feel really sorry for JC being dragged to bits. He is a teenager discussing his sexuality and being open and honest which is a huge deal. The TRAs and their brainwashed gender cultists seemingly took a break from chanting “trans women are women” long enough to watch a video for the purposes of being outraged and are now tearing a teenager from limb to limb because he dared not exactly, 100% toe the line.
A gay teenager who has a fleeting attraction to someone who presents as the same sex but who is actually the opposite sex must be very confusing to them, especially in a world that increasingly wants everyone in little boxes. It would be very difficult for a teenager to say anything about this without being tripped by the trans wire.

They will try to ruin his career if he does not submit to their demands.

HorsewithnoFrills · 17/04/2019 09:10

..but I still call myself as a woman..

He shouts out his name in a pretend woman's voice?

Each to his own.

Lamaha · 17/04/2019 09:02

This is a very fascinating aspect of the trans debate, which, I think, has not yet been discussed in the MSM.

I wish a GC journalist would pick it up.

Lamaha · 17/04/2019 09:00

You would think so. But isn't this what they're saying James should do? He found the transman attractive but ultimately (I guess) rejected them because of their um bottoms. That could be counted as transphobia.
It could happen to any of us.

Don't underestimate the fury of a rejected TRA.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 17/04/2019 08:58

Yep, this is simmering because James Charles has said he is attracted to trans men, even if they have a vagina.

There will be plenty of gay men out there for whom a vagina is an absolute no no, and once they start getting some proper shit, which will surely happen soon, things will get very interesting.

OKsoWhatNext · 17/04/2019 08:53

I get that concern - but surely we are never compelled to have a relationship with anyone if we're not attracted to them? We don't have to give reasons?

Lamaha · 17/04/2019 08:37

But actually, it goes further than gay conversion. This kind of reasoning affects ALL of us, straight or gay (with the exception of bi I guess).

If, in some kind of dystopian horror future, rejecting an partner for sex or dating or marriage because they are, um, the wrong sex becomes a hate crime, then we are all in trouble. Hetero men will have to accept transwomen (ie men) as sexual partners if they (the TW) want them. (I can imagine some internal confusion there!)

I, as a hetero woman, would have to accept a transman as my husband if that was what they wanted; if I don't they could accuse me of transphobia.

Pretty much a nightmare, as well, if you actually want children and the specific genitals are crucial to that outcome!
I think many trans-allies have not thought this through to the logical consequences.

I know a very committed-to-the-cause American female trans-ally who is desperately looking for a second husband. If she's such an ally she really needs to date transmen as well. Yet somehow, I don't think that's exactly what she wants -- she recently rejected a guy because he has a man-bun. That's how fussy she is.

OKsoWhatNext · 17/04/2019 08:24

Watching this with interest.

DC (DD recently identifying as male - I guess could be described as having rapid onset gender dysphoria) is a massive fan of James Charles. Maybe this is a useful conversation opener.

littlbrowndog · 17/04/2019 07:58

Gay conversion it is

Lamaha · 17/04/2019 07:44

Another tweet:
I get it. As a gay guy, finding out you're into to a trans guy for the first time, thinking about his downstairs & being like "yeah, I want that too" can be kind of a shock. He's a guy & we have to re-examine what that means and it takes time for all the language to be perfect

So basically: gay conversion.

cattycattycat · 17/04/2019 07:39

Sorry I didn't make my post clear - the paragraph with bold was a tweet aimed at him. I agree it's nonsense, it reminded me of RM saying lesbians can get used to penis.

DianeBrewster · 17/04/2019 07:36

Cattycattycat says they are quoting someone ....

SD1978 · 17/04/2019 07:28

@cattycattycat- sorry- do you believe that you can juts 'get over' a persons genitals? That if they choose to dress a certain way with a certain personal gender bias is, then what is under the clothes doesn't matter? I'm afraid I disagree.

Wheresmyvagina · 17/04/2019 07:22

Being initially attracted to a transman doesn't challenge his homosexuality but if he were to pursue a relationship with the transman then it would, because that would not be a homosexual relationship.

Lamaha · 17/04/2019 07:14

I shall be eating a lot of popcorn when TRAs turn their attention to, and wrath on, gay men. Gay men who aren't interested in transmen. Hmmmm.....

I love that word, Schadenfreude.
