A wonderful breakfast thread to ensure all the good women of fwr start the day right with substance and not just dross. I’ve already failed and partaken in consuming shite but it might not be too late for lots of you!

I like making egg free pancakes by substituting the eggs fro mashed bananas- works a treat.

LangCleg · 05/04/2019 12:29

Are you alright Lang ?

I have a Lindt bunny and I bit its head off.

FingonTheValiant · 05/04/2019 11:20

OMG Ewe that cake is amazing!

I'm amazed by people who can do such fabulous cake decorating. I dream of it... But I'm just not that patient.

Are you alright Lang ?

I used this mould

www.amazon.co.uk/Millya-Silicone-International-Chocolate-Fondant/dp/B072X8XQVG?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

And this recipe for the cake

thecharmedcupcake.com/2013/04/21/checkmate/

Perhaps instead of a checkmate cake, it could be a checkwoke cake Grin

How did you do the chess pieces, ewe? Between that and the minecraft cake, that's my inspiration for the 2 dc's birthday cakes sorted, thanks for posing your excellent creations Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2019 11:01

That's a wonderful cake.

Meanwhile, I'm happily brunching on oat bran banana egg custard porridge with cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.

Datun · 05/04/2019 10:59

OMG all these cakes are amazing.

'I have a cake to ice' suddenly makes sense!

EweSurname · 05/04/2019 10:44

That’s an a amazing cake bernard. Bet DC was thrilled with it!

Here was my cake from last week. Sadly no one actually wanted to have a game, which was probably a good thing else the pieces would’ve been even more melted and mishapen!

Lymphy would that not have left a tell tale sour milk smell? When our uniform inspector got wise to us using sellotape we moved to double sided sticky tape. Twas even easier than wundaweb.

LangCleg · 05/04/2019 10:32

I'm rather partial to WBH. But better than that is caramelised weetabix. Two bixes, hot milk, liberal sprinkling of brown sugar, with or without banana, then microwave/under the grill until caramelised. Sometimes I add raspberries. Lush.

wrathofVitriolKlop · 05/04/2019 10:29

Light the candles and stand back...

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/04/2019 10:17

The cake was for DS 1’s birthday party

It’s a Minecraft TNT block btw

I can see that if you don’t know that it could look like a somewhat aggressive coded message Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2019 10:17

We made basic flour and water paste in craft lessons back in the dark ages 1960s.

wrathofVitriolKlop · 05/04/2019 10:14

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly
Who was that cake for? Shock

wrathofVitriolKlop · 05/04/2019 10:13

Homemade wallpaper paste, who knew?
We must go into schools to encourage this.

Don't know where I'm going with this

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/04/2019 10:08

I can’t believe I missed talking about cake last night, all because I decided to read a book instead of MN. I mean feminism is OK, but I bloody love cake.

God bless fondant icing, even with my cack handedness I can make something vaguely recognisable

Use of the aforementioned substances as adhesives is obvious when you consider wallpaper paste.

^Homemade Wallpaper Paste Recipe
1 1/2 cups white flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 Tbsp alum*
3 cups of water
Combine flour and sugar. Slowly add 1 cup of cold water and beat out any lumps. Put mixture in a saucepan. Add 2 cups of water. Stirring constantly, bring the mixture to a boil on medium heat. When stiff, remove from heat and add alum. Store in an airtight container. It should keep several weeks. If the paste hardens, soften by mixing in small amounts of warm water as needed.
*Alum is a pickling spice found in the spice section of your store. It’s a preservative.^

I found some weetabix stuck to the piano this morning Envy

terryleather · 05/04/2019 09:47

Floral Im partial to a mandarin orange but in a hot milk/Weetabix combo I have to agree, it's almost reaching the "heights" of the WBH - something I didn't think was possible.

Lang I admire your year round commitment!

wrathofVitriolKlop · 05/04/2019 09:47

Weetabix is nice, but I swear it has the hardening properties of polyfilla.

I therefore declare that you have permission to use weetabix off script.

I will have a stockpile of weetabix so I can spread this idea far and wide.
Maybe go into schools to show them how I can fix the pin holes in the classroom walls.
My hope is that many children will be encouraged to do this.

Pinholes in walls need fixing.
Weetabix is your friend.

I don't usually have breakfast either, but sometimes have French toast or porridge for lunch. I got woken horribly early this morning so I think I may need brunch today. And then I'll probably want something at afternoon teatime. #silverliningtoeverycloud

it can also be used as a building material

True. Also a good bonding agent. I used it to hem my sons school trews in lieu of wonder web.
