As usual, only in Brighton. Coming soon to your local school?

If this were the US, it would launch a thousand jokes all ending with: “Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges.”

Whatisthisfuckery · 03/04/2019 18:51

Oh dear, I don’t see this going well. Kids can come up with creative ways to rebel, and are not known for their sensitivity. Basically the only takers will be the easily intimidated, the piss takers, and despotic little shits who will enjoy the power trip.

There’s nowt more inclusive than wearing a badge to show how different you are.

BillywilliamV · 03/04/2019 18:05

Every child I know would be swapping badges with a member of the opposite sex, just for a laugh.

Natsku · 03/04/2019 17:59

One does not like to be so vulgar as to claim pronouns for oneself.

DangermousesSidekick · 03/04/2019 17:44

Can you use the pronouns 'majesty', 'supremeness' and 'wonderfulness'? After all it's literal violence not to accept my declaration.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 03/04/2019 16:38

I love the poster on here a whike back who said that their pronouns are

OD/FOD

I would love that on a badge!

Or I could add 'you cunt' onto one of the my pronouns are they' badges, in homage to that Jam Jar event. Smile

MockerstheFeManist · 03/04/2019 16:19

I&I if one is Rastafarian.

(and any kids who self-ID as Rastas are not allowed to wash and must smoke cannabis as a sacrement.)

andyoldlabour · 03/04/2019 16:11

"Trans rights campaigner Sophie Cook, who ran as Labour Parliamentary candidate for Worthing in 2017"

That explains a lot.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 03/04/2019 14:53

Nice to meet me. Grin

Nice to meet me, too. You'd think this might catch on with narcissists.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 03/04/2019 14:43

are you allowed to not accept badges or forced pronouns as labelling is "so, like, regressive"? Is that not a youth thing nowadays (thankfully my teens/young adults are STEM types who understand science)?

theOtherPamAyres · 03/04/2019 14:34

As far as I'm concerned, putting on a pronoun badge is a political statement. it says:

I support the idea that...

  • people can change sex
  • gender identity is a thing, and needs to be validated

This is a cult. If you want to be seen as compassionate, liberal, progressive and don't have time for rational thought, science and biology, then the badges are for you. You'll look like a dick, though.

RocketSurgery
Forgive someone new to all this, what is an ahf T-shirt?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 03/04/2019 14:21

Dp I'm almost hoping someone will ask me. Because either you get to self-ID or not. I'm really looking forward to someone trying to respect my pronouns of choice. I didn't realise I was selfgendered, though Smile.

DpWm · 03/04/2019 14:18

Yes I'm absolutely dying to say my pronouns are
"I, mine and my" !! (Because I'm selfgendered)

But no one's asked me recently Sad

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 03/04/2019 14:12

How ridiculous.

If anyone ever asks me what my pronouns are I'm going to say my pronouns are 'I' and then see if they manage a single sentence referring to me without tying themselves in knots.

Since actual normal usage of the English language doesn't seem to be important or a defence against misgendering any more, I really don't see why not.

Lamaha · 03/04/2019 13:22

I used to work at Brighton University school of Arts. Some of the students were really weird. Their art projects very quirkily creative like the student whose artwork consisted of her dirty knickers of the week attached to board, crotch-side out, when she had her period. There was a very obvious obsession with sex and genitalia the more outlandish and taboo-breaking, the better. Not really to my taste, as a 50-something!

They had these in my local library. I think it's fucking ridiculous, but hey that's Brighton for you.

Estcarpwitch · 03/04/2019 13:09

I thank God every day I no longer teach science in Brighton. I would be sacked Sad

Those stickers say ‘my pronouns matter’ in text and background very similar to the ‘black lives matter’ campaign. I find that quite offensive piggy backing.

I’m not normally a conspiracy theorist it was just the first thing I thought.

Lamaha · 03/04/2019 12:52

I am wondering id Mermaids is behind/sponsoring/funding this. I find it hard to believe that the council came up with the idea and went to the trouble and expense without some backstage power pushing them.
