“Trans day of visibility” being on Mother’s Day

All right, I know it’s probably because the Trans day of visibility thing is American driven and their Mother’s Day isn’t today...

But i’m feeling petty, and it feels like announcing today as the Trans Day of visibility feels like one more way to say “budge up women, we’re sharing your day; please focus on us today, no one cares anout what your uteruses have done; not all women have uteruses you know” etc etc.

My local police force have made a Facebook post showing a photo of them proudly flying the Trans flag at their HQ. So far absolutely nothing recognising all the mothers that work for them.

Happy Mothers’ day to all Flowers

Lockheart · 31/03/2019 14:30

I did see this on twitter earlier and it got a wry smile, but it's clearly just coincidence.

Thinking about it, the UK's Mothering Sunday is a moveable feast, whereas TDOV is ALWAYS on 31 March. So it could be argued we're stealing TDOV's thunder and not the other way around Wink

LimeKiwi · 31/03/2019 13:56

Exactly, over50. Everyone can have their day, they celebrate their mums too

over50andfab · 31/03/2019 13:49

I really don’t care if Trans day of visibility is the same day as Mother’s Day, and - I might be mistaken - but haven’t seen any trans people asking the same thing. Rather I’ve seen messages from them on social media celebrating their mums Flowers

LimeKiwi · 31/03/2019 13:29

Mother's Day changes every year though, if the trans day is on 31st of March every year as a pp said, then surely it hasn't been done as a "they won't even let us have one day!" as someone said upthread.
Coincidence, and really nothing sinister

AdultHuman · 31/03/2019 12:15

The search option in moonpig gives zero results for 'trans'.

It would appear wokesters are happy to Tweet about trans issues and aren't so keen to put their money where their mouth is.

Dothehappydance · 31/03/2019 12:14

So it’s only annoying like once every seven years?

Not even that probably, as the date of Mother's Day is in relation to Easter which moves.

I am staying away from FB ion the whole today, my mum isn't on there so any posts would be virtue signalling and for many of my friends it will be a difficult day and I went to bed last night having been 'told' to get over the fact that a woman can have a penis.

And I will start ranting about Brexit and green waste collections no doubt

AncientLights · 31/03/2019 12:11

Dyrne please stay out of your box. It is a coincidence that the 2 days have fallen on the same day but may be telling how some orgs mark one and ignore the other.

Does anyone know if they produce 'happy trans visibility day' cards? Just interested, not planning on buying. OTOH it could be a good business idea and I could donate the money to Vancouver Rape Relief. Grin

Dyrne · 31/03/2019 11:56

Aargh “Gender non-conforming” - what does that even mean? I’m wearing trousers today and no makeup, so does that mean TVP are flying the flag for me today as well?

Posting here has helped me articulate why I’m so annoyed - it’s not so much the fact that the days happened to have coincided, it’s once again seeing that where organisations could easily have acknowledged both, they’ve prioritised Trans Visibility day and given no mention of Mothers.

Thames Valley Police’s Facebook post says ‘We are flying the Transgender flag at our HQ to recognise the victories of all transgender & gender non-conforming people 🙂’

Whatisthisfuckery · 31/03/2019 11:41

My local police force have done the same, not sure if it’s the same one. Safe to say it hasn’t gone all that well.

AdultHuman · 31/03/2019 11:38

In 2024 there will be a clash with Easter Sunday, the day a man is celebrated by some for having risen from the dead, leaving his dead body and that life behind.

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 11:29

Is there a significance to 31 March at all?

buzzbobbly · 31/03/2019 11:22

I think we share the same police force OP.

If you later see a comment about how it's lucky they aren't West Yorkshire Police, don't out me! I have restrained myself so far...

visitorthedog · 31/03/2019 11:21

I guess if they’d avoided March then they could have avoided this issue.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 31/03/2019 11:17

So trans people might have to think of their Mothers on their special day. And it’s not all about them. Grin

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 11:14

Was puzzling over that then realised it was a leap year! Blush

hipsterfun · 31/03/2019 11:10

Don’t worry, Dyrne, 31st March is a Tuesday next year.

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 11:10

This year they have posted on a pink background happy mothers day including dads, carers, anyone wirh the role of mother!

Hope they do the same for Father's Day,

Dyrne · 31/03/2019 11:07

Oh all right, I accept i’m being a grumpy cow Grin

I’m not even a mum, so I don’t know why it rubbed me up the wrong way.

Probably the post from the police. How many mothers will be beaten in front of their children today; the domestic violence conviction rate is woeful; but don’t worry folks, they’re flying a flag...

I’ll get back in my box now!

invisibleoldwoman · 31/03/2019 11:04

On Facebook and Twitter I should have said.

invisibleoldwoman · 31/03/2019 11:03

The driving organisation IAM Roadsmart forgot Mothers day last year. This year they have posted on a pink background happy mothers day including dads, carers, anyone wirh the role of mother!

hipsterfun · 31/03/2019 11:02

I’m delighted it’s not on a weekday this year, so I don’t have to waste energy suppressing my Problematic Attitude in my place of work woke.

Instead, I’m being adored by the fruits of my womb and having Problematic Attitude on FWR.

Happy Mother’s Day all Flowers

Ereshkigal · 31/03/2019 10:50

Yes I think so. I'm not going on Twitter today, and am planning to spend it with my lovely mum. So it won't annoy me. It's utterly irrelevant to the vast majority of the population.

BettyFloop · 31/03/2019 10:49

My local police force has posted 'Happy Trans Awareness day' on their FB page too. The Great British Public aren't buying it...
