Some weekend flowers, cake and wine for Mumsnet

I'm not sure how this'll go, as I know not everyone will agree (pfft - ie, as in almost every thread on Mumsnet, ever!)

I thought it might be lovely to send some weekend-thanks back to the Mumsnet team, the site owners, the moderators, just the team in general really.

I know there's a lot of frustration about what we can and can't say, particularly within FWR.

But Mumsnet has held its ground, enabled a conversation, a two-way dialogue that just doesn't happen on many other sites right now.

They haven't shut the conversation down, when I'm guessing often it may have felt easier to do so given external pressure being exerted by certain groups and people (and hopefully the number of clicks on FWR as a result have been good for businessSmile)

There will be those who say 'oh, but look at the pile-ons' etc, this site is 'transphobic'.

But this site doesn't delete threads that often, so the evidence remains to the contrary. Threads that show intelligent, mostly calm discussion when people disagree with each other.

(I particularly find the terminology of 'pile-ons' interesting - often deployed when a poster finds lots of people on the thread disagree with them. If I recall, that used to be defined as 'hmm, most people seem to disagree with me' - now re-identifying as a 'pile-on' once 'more than two people disagree with me' as if it disagreement = act of hate and aggression! I suspect many visitors who solely come to FWR wouldn't cope with a wedding-thread/parking thread disagreement!)

And I'm pretty sure the Mumsnet team doesn't have a 'hive mind' just like none of us do here, so your office team meetings must be fascinating!

So to the moderators, the leadership team, to the person on reception who probably worries sometimes who's going to walk through the door, given some of the aggressive tactics we've seen from those who wish to silence women's voices:-

I'd like to thank you for keeping this space open to enable everyone to have the conversation.

Flowers Cake Wine Gin Glitterball depending on what floats your boat!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 31/03/2019 09:25

Happy mother’s day, MNHQ, with many thanks for your support.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 31/03/2019 09:21

Adding my warm wishes too. I really appreciate having a space to learn and discuss women’s rights. It means in my very small may I can be part of a movement for change, and that is awesome.

Seems like the pinned message about MN rules has been removed

As far as I can remember this happened before because stickies automatically expire.

Lamaha · 31/03/2019 09:03

Seems like the pinned message about MN rules has been removed... wonder why and if they'll be back

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 30/03/2019 23:20

Well this went OK Smile

Glad it went down well at @MNHQ And thank you yetanotherBeckyfor the Conchords link - sent me back down a Conchord-rabbit hole I was't expecting to go down this weekend.

And to the poster formerly known as apparentlyladydicksareathing - come back if you're reading surreptitiously! Halo

This space is incredibly important. Which is why other people want to take it down.

Keep talking people Smile

I bought my mum A Star Is Born. I said to her (we live on different islands in the North Atlantic), when your mum, my gran, looked at you after she gave birth her first thoughts was 'A Star Is Born'. My mum was my Gran's first born child.

We women know.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/03/2019 18:25

I'd love a radicalised on mumsnet t-shirt too! Grin

Thanks from me too MNHQ, you do a difficult job in difficult circumstances and I too really appreciate having this space Smile Flowers

Aw Becky 😭
I also remember all the support I got here when DS was DXd with ASD. MN is a great resource, thanks to all who make it what it is.

Feminism&WomensRights (the old name commonly referred to as FWR)

Lamaha · 30/03/2019 16:59

As a relative newbie I'm in awe of the wealth of information and the articulate discussions I've found here, and would like to join in the thanks to those who enable this platform for us to speak out mind. It was so frustrating, having these strong opinions and outrage but nowhere to speak them -- and then I came here.

One question though: what is FWR?

teawamutu · 30/03/2019 16:49

Radicalised on Mumsnet

Smotheroffive · 30/03/2019 16:33
