College of Charleston, in South Carolina:

philosophy.cofc.edu/faculty-staff-listing/mckinnon-rachel.php

It was on this page I discovered McKinnon authored a paper entitled:

“Sure the Emperor Has No Clothes, but You Shouldn’t Say That.”

I kid you not.

AncientLights · 30/03/2019 10:30

Def works in the U.S.- one of the Carolinas. I've seen & heard McK & no way would I think woman.

FermatsTheorem · 30/03/2019 10:30

Actually that's a very interesting point Howyouall. How does MK, with MK's tendency to narc rage, handle students who disagree in seminars (and remember the discipline MK identifies as teaching is philosophy, where rational argument and disputation are key elements)?

FermatsTheorem · 30/03/2019 10:27

So MK believes MK passes, yet thinks Sharron Davies looks like a man. Okay then... (There's a certain level of delusional thinking that's just past engaging with unless you're an actual psychiatric professional.)

Howyoualldoworkme · 30/03/2019 10:19

I.think they work at a University in Canada?
And we all know how GC Canada is Hmm

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/03/2019 10:15

I find it amazing that the university doesn't have a problem with McKinnon's violently aggressive tweets bringing the university into disrepute, but also - would you let your child go and study under someone who acts like this, flying off the handle and screaming capitalised abuse on Twitter?
Hell no.

Ereshkigal · 30/03/2019 10:14

I found this an interesting example of how they see themselves

Very. What I am not sure is whether that lack of self awareness is genuine or affected.

CatandtheFiddle · 30/03/2019 10:12

I just cannot believe that this person works in a university. It is almost impossible to get an academic job these days and yet this person does? Just how?

GCAcademic I wondered too. But there are plenty of fairly tin-pot colleges in the US. And I suspect that they got the job before transitioning. Masculine privilege, and the confidence of the mediocre white man.

Major derail alert for Archers fans.
That list Justhadathought exactly sums up the odious, raping, gaslighting wife abuser Rob character in The Archers. It really was a well done and educational story line.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 30/03/2019 10:11

Wouldn’t dare.

calpop · 30/03/2019 10:10

RMK is clearly mentally ill right? I'm amazed no one from the University HR has has a word.

CharlieParley · 30/03/2019 10:04

Justhadathought thank you, that's very interesting.

Narcissism is the pursuit of gratification from vanity or egotistic admiration of one's idealised self image and attributes. It is characterised by grandiosity, pride, egotism, and a lack of empathy.

Psychiatrists Hotchkiss and James F. Masterson identified what they called the seven deadly sins of narcissism:

Shamelessness: Narcissists are often proudly and openly shameless; they are not bound by the needs and wishes of others. Narcissists hate shame and consider it "toxic" as shame implies they are not perfect and need to change. Narcissists prefer guilt over shame, as guilt allows them to dissociate their actions from themselves - it's only their actions that are wrong, while they themselves remain perfect.
Magical thinking Narcissists see themselves as perfect, using distortion and illusion known as magical thinking. They also use projection to "dump" shame onto others.
Arrogance A narcissist who is feeling deflated may "re-inflate" their sense of self-importance by diminishing, debasing, or degrading somebody else.
Envy A narcissist may secure a sense of superiority in the face of another person's ability by using contempt to minimise the other person or their achievements.
Entitlement Narcissists hold unreasonable expectations of particularly favourable treatment and automatic compliance because they consider themselves special. Failure to comply is considered an attack on their superiority, and the perpetrator is considered an "awkward" or "difficult" person. Defiance of their will is a narcissistic injury that can trigger narcissistic rage.
Exploitation Can take many forms but always involves the exploitation of others without regard for their feelings or interests. Often the other person is in a subservient position where resistance would be difficult or even impossible. Sometimes the subservience is not so much real as assumed. This exploitation may result in many brief, short-lived relationships.
Bad boundaries Narcissists do not recognise that they have boundaries and that others are separate and are not extensions of themselves. Others either exist to meet their needs or may as well not exist at all. Those who provide narcissistic supply to the narcissist are treated as if they are part of the narcissist and are expected to live up to those expectations. In the mind of a narcissist, there is no boundary between self and other.

I’ve worked long enough to see people get their comeuppance. Sometimes it’s been 20 years and I’m not one to craw but am willing to make exceptions for people who caruse so much harm.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 30/03/2019 09:28

They will get what they deserve. People usually do

Yup.

Artesia · 30/03/2019 09:27

Just looked through the twitter responses to the image Notevenmyrealname posted above. It’s terrifying how people are jumping on the charming “die in a grease fire” bandwagon. I am not on twitter but should this be reported? Literal violence and all that...

They will get what they deserve. People usually do. If you stop around being a bossy git the only people who are nice to your face are scared of you - and they aren’t forever. Well the workplace is like that - then you have a massive fall because no one have taken you aside and said ‘look you are being a complete arse’.

Who/what is kinda Riley?

Notevenmyrealname · 30/03/2019 09:14

So trite and humble. Realising that what they said was unacceptable.

Not really, just unhinged.

Rach, love, we're not gonna call you "she" because biology. It's not transphobia, it's material reality.

LizzieSiddal · 30/03/2019 08:36

Linda Riley is an utter disgrace.

lottiebel123 · 30/03/2019 08:36

Linda Riley tweeted last night in response to the McKinnon banning, to say that she knew people at Twitter and would speak to them. She then responded with Yay and lots of support for McKinnon when she was reinstated on Twitter.
Give someone enough time and they eventually reveal who they are.
Even TRAs, except the most ridiculous ones, avoid McKinnon because they can see exactly the sort of person they're dealing with. The fact that Riley is happy to support such a person defies belief.

LizzieSiddal · 30/03/2019 08:36

I hope RM has been reported again for the threats they posted last night. “Run scared, dear transphobes”
