Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

If Glinner is such an 'ally' why is he working only with white men?

I'm a GC feminist, but I do find all the fawning around Graham Linehan to be pathetic. He's barely given a peep about women's rights in the past, and suddenly he's jumped on the anti-TRA bandwagon, centering himself in what is and should a women-led movement (i.e. feminism).
The last straw for me is seeing fellow feminists fawn over this tweet - he posits himself as an ally, yet shows 0 interest in opening up the world of comedy beyond the thoughts of white men.

A heterosexual man being critical of transgenderism =! feminism

OP You may want to do a bit of research rather than rushing in and making yourself look rather silly.

His last project was Motherhood, a successful series on BBC2, written alongside 3 women.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost because I have functionig eyes and am capable of distinguishing the sex of a fellow human being Hmm.

Zippey those two are not gender critical not even close! They are conservatives who are patriarchy 101. My enemy's enemy is not my friend, and right wing men are no better than woke bros

I think it’s all right. Even women won’t agree what feminism constitutes. He should care as much for women’s rights as you care for men’s rights.

It’s like Peterson or Shapiro who are also gender critical but don’t believe in gender pay gaps.

AnotherLass · 29/03/2019 13:42

I'm happy to fawn over Graham

Literally no other person of his level of celebrity is doing what he is doing. That doesn't mean that I agree with the guy on everything (I don't). He's still a total hero.

And it is ludicrous to say that he is doing this for attention - he's taken a huge amount of shit for what he's doing, and literally nobody speaks out on this issue for popularity

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/03/2019 13:42

How do you know they are men?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/03/2019 13:42

So just to get this straight, you want Graham Linehan to pretend the people who made Father Ted 30 years ago were not white men?

nauticant · 29/03/2019 13:36

Glad to hear you're bearing up SharkBastard.

NappyDisco · 29/03/2019 13:35

Janice Turner also gets a lot of atte tion. And JK Rowling everytime she has a middle aged moment and gives herself away.

Robert Webb seemed promising but seems to have shutup when he realised it was going to be hardwork, and ironically not a lot of fawning.

SharkBastard · 29/03/2019 13:33

I'm good, thank you for asking. Some days easier than others, but I'm made of stern stuff!

NappyDisco · 29/03/2019 13:33

And I won’t stop criticising any man for any reason if they are perpetuating patriarchy. I’m glad he supports the protection of women only spaces, but it frustrates that he seems to get more attention then women who say the same as him

He is in the news precisely because he is famous. Fake McNotALawyer chose him to hassle for this reason. He hasn't chosen to centre himself. He has been centred because he has been attacked (due to being famous).

They can go after Bindel but she's been tefblocked by everyone and no one woukd see it. She also likely doesnt have the money he has to make suing for fun worthwhile.

How do you think he should be doing this?

StephsCaddy · 29/03/2019 13:32

Plinytheprettier - I’d ask for this to be deleted if I were you. I’m cringing on your behalf.

nauticant · 29/03/2019 13:30

This thread is making me think of this:

A must-watch for anyone worried about the rise of authoritarianism on the Left.

Bluestitch · 29/03/2019 13:28

What I meant was in this tweet it implied that his current project was led by white men.

Yes his current project is the Ted Musical so those pictured were involved in the original Father Ted. One of them is the co-creator, another of them did the original music. Or are you saying he shouldn't have worked with them 25 years ago so this didn't crop up?

GirlDownUnder · 29/03/2019 13:26

Ummm ...was in this tweet it implied that his current project was led by white men umm how?

Are you basing this on a picture?

Doyoumind · 29/03/2019 13:26

The majority of glinner's Twitter content is him retweeting or drawing attention to tweets and content from women. He has the ability to reach a larger audience than many of those individuals.

nauticant · 29/03/2019 13:25

What I meant was in this tweet it implied that his current project was led by white men.

Are we supposed to view this as some kind of crime?

Datun · 29/03/2019 13:25

Well perhaps say that - instead of accusing him of not working with black people and saying that women supporting him are fawning and pathetic!!

Knicknackpaddyflak · 29/03/2019 13:24

Ensuring that GNC males don't colonise womanhood is not the be all and end all of women's liberation

Oh what a giveaway.

Yes OP, it really is.

GirlDownUnder · 29/03/2019 13:23

SharkBastard, how are you?

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 29/03/2019 13:21

FYI Easter hols started in my region today... just sayin’...

Knicknackpaddyflak · 29/03/2019 13:21

Ooh look it's dividing and conquering attempt #379 Grin

There are no 'allies' mate. No sides. No membership badges. That word is one specific to a political movement. Nothing but pissed off women here.

howlsmovingcastle84 · 29/03/2019 13:21

I disagree.

Pretty sure Katherine Parkinson (the head of the IT department in the IT Crowd) is a woman

Funny this thread appeared today....

Plinytheprettier · 29/03/2019 13:20

What I meant was in this tweet it implied that his current project was led by white men. I can see why that was unclear. I am not new to mn, I’ve posted to this very board several time.
