A theatre company are looking for playwrights who identify as female mothers. The responses are fabulous, I'm particularly loving 'Daphne's' reply.

I know Mumminmum
What if I want to identify as the mother of someone else's kids when mine are annoying me with their endless requests for exact location of missing belongings?
Or maybe, next time DS1 is telling me that it's cool at so-and-so's house 'cos they've got a VR headset', I can give him a nudge to identify as one of their kids?
There are so many possibilities with this self-identifying lark.

Mumminmum · 22/03/2019 17:32

I think that it is unfair that you can identify as a mother but not as a playwrigth. I don't write and want to do an interpretive dance for them which they can then turn into a play...... Oh no wait. I can't dance either. .... I will ...... I will ... I will either sew a garment or cook a dish which they can then turn into a play. What am I saying: I can just identify as someone who can dance. Wow! This "identify as" solves everything.

"We’re seeking plays that identify as LBTQ+ themed for a week slot (Tue-Sat) with us"

Holy crap...

AssassinatedBeauty · 22/03/2019 16:09

According to their submissions information page they also think that people can self identify as disabled, and that plays can actually identify as LGBT+. I quote:

"We’re seeking plays that identify as LBTQ+ themed for a week slot (Tue-Sat) with us"

Glad it’s in the mail. Mail readers definitely recognise this as utter shite. But how do we get them to realise that actually it’s really dangerous shite that will impact on them, their children and grandchildren and that they need to write to their elected representatives about it. They need to challenge any organisation using gender instead of sex and ultimately they’re probably going to have to MARCH.

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 22/03/2019 15:11

yikes!

Lamaha · 22/03/2019 15:10

It's in the mail, so even more exposure and ridicule.

I'm guessing after reading all the responses that they just want actual women who have actually given birth. But you can't say that any more without offending someone. Also including transmen who have given birth makes less sense because they don't even want to be women anymore, so since they dn't feel like women and deny they are women, does their perspective belong in a narrative about women until they have straightened out their issues? I feel like that population is probably a small one at any rate, as many transmen do whatever is possible to avoid childbearing, although I do know one who had a child prior to transitioning.

Bluestitch · 22/03/2019 15:02

Bluestitch I believe that is called being ‘ratioed’.

Ah thanks, I keep seeing that term and wondered what it meant!

Bluestitch I believe that is called being ‘ratioed’. I am learning so many new words following this farce.

Bluestitch · 22/03/2019 14:59

Look at the number of likes too. The 'female identifying mothers' tweet from the theatre has 26 likes, Daphne's response has 750! You'd think that would tell them something.

"Haa... I'm still laughing at the first reply.
And others."

Yes, that was a perfect example of "feMANinity" Grin

Well found! That's some very bendy logic on display!
I think her brain may have been replaced with a root vegetable facsimile.
So, ''mother is no longer a gender-specific term'', it's ''just a word for a set of qualities''? Fnarp, tell that to my reproductive system!

BlooperReel · 22/03/2019 14:44

Can we have 'woke-itis' entered into the medical books? It's a disease or infection surely?

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 22/03/2019 14:44

please direct me to Daphne I'm laughing too much to find that reply.

RepealTheGRA · 22/03/2019 14:41

Who is this person? WTAF is wrong with them?

Words. Mean. Things.

Oh I love DaphneGrin

MrsWinkly · 22/03/2019 14:20

Oh my word. Time to clone Joan McAlpine I think, so we can all have her as an MP.
I love the pushback below, someone asking what a 'womxn' was and if it was like a yeti!

As for the 'bleeders' and 'cervix havers', it's beyond insulting. If someone suffers from such cognitive dissonance that, whilst claiming to be a woman, they can't accept the word woman then they need help to adjust. We shouldn't have to accommodate their inability to deal with the reality of what they are. Particularly if it puts women at risk.

Bluestitch · 22/03/2019 13:57

'Womxn' has reared it's ugly head again, I linked further up thread, have you seen this nonsense?

mobile.twitter.com/screenscots/status/1108390950248857601

Not to mention bleeders and cervix havers!

OP posts:
MrsWinkly · 22/03/2019 13:55

Oh yep, I'd forgotten the 'womxn' episode.

MrsWinkly · 22/03/2019 13:53

Sometimes I can't believe how quickly and willingly 'wokeness' has crawled up its own bum.
That we've got to a stage where women with/without kids are described as 'menstruators', 'gestators' or 'female identifying mothers' is beyond parody.
We're now living life through the pages of Viz and Pseuds Corner.

Woke will eventually eat itself.
