What happened between Owen Jones and Sali Hughes over the weekend?

OJ telling her off because she's apparently never even tweeted about something. Because of course if it isn't on twitter then it doesn't exist! Reminds me of Ash Sarkar's assertion that Julie Bindel hasn't done anything for women in prison based on a quick twitter search.

Sali Hughes is brilliant. However if I could be bothered to give OJ shit it would be partly because he is left wing. I expect better from people who say they are left. He is heavily invested in his good person image so to see him get high on his own farts about racism whilst being willfully ignorant of his own misogyny is enraging and upsetting. He's clearly judged that he can get away with shitting on women with his image intact.

My feeling is that many gay men feel that by their very nature they are sacrosanct, and now automatically cool, and woke enough, not to have to bother to look at or reflect upon their own prejudices. That recent letter signed by all of those prominent gay men was an act of celebration of their now cool social status. We are gay men. We have suffered. We are immune from criticism. Just by being a gay man we are on the right side of history. We know all about suffering and bigotry and stuff.....

I didn't know anything about Sali Hughes before. Good for her. She sounds like a practical sort of person. I have no respect whatever for those who disregard that and think they are virtuous because they spend their time preaching on Twitter.
