...and defends the Mermaids jelly baby scale. I'm so pissed off at people like this who have apparently done zero research and yet are happy to put their woke two cents in whilst also casually using misogynistic slurs. How can they not see how utterly sexist it all is? How is calling other women by a derogatory slur at all productive? How is using gender stereotypes in any way helpful? How about if we used them for race? Where would you fit on the race scale? Do you like eating watermelon and ribs or do you have a good sense of rhythm? Then you're more at the black end of the scale. No no no no no. The stereotypes are the problem, we don't need to work with the stereotypes we've got and be told to pick a place on the scale, we need to escape them altogether. FFS.

The baby is a girl- we “chatted” about breastfeeding when she was a newborn.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/03/2019 08:37

Out if interest - what sex is her baby? Has she ‘gendered’ the poor mite?

ChattyLion · 20/03/2019 08:36

Maybe it’s about pulling the ladder up behind you? BTW noticed this in various industries too.
Combination of career advancement plus early trauma creating narcissistic persona. Oddly the narcissism helps with career advancement because no fucks are given and others are smeared and trampled on. Interesting!

A bit fucking rich though- like in the case of Josie Long- to want to colonise feminism as your own, when you views are massively sexist.

borntobequiet · 20/03/2019 08:29

Fekko - I think that many (not all) of the women fairly high up in the Conservative party are like this. In other parties too, but not to the same extent.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/03/2019 07:53

Some women really don’t like women though. We’ve all met them - love to be surrounded by the attention of men but will hiss and spit at other women.

ChattyLion · 20/03/2019 07:38

Wow... that quote from Josie Long.... Shock
What a tragic bootlicking she is doing.

Why do handmaidens feel the need? Are they seeking some kind of personal career, social, financial, sexual advantage over other women? Scared not to completely capitulate to a male agenda? Internalised misogyny? Are they extremely thick and privileged and don’t understand what they are posturing about is deeply political and that these issues have real meaning in other people’s lives?

Are they playing some kind of fucked up woke bingo on social media and feeling in need of more woke points and attention? Building up their social media profile and follow numbers by promoting glittery shit? Building up their social media profile and follows by trying to bait feminists, free speechers, and (well, anyone of rational thought) by being ‘controversial’?
Are they ‘Keeping themselves relevant’?
Maybe flat out trolling? I.e. not believing a word of it but taking the piss out of vacuous privilege of the woke by pretending to be vacuous and privileged?

Do handmaidens ever think about how free they would feel if they or someone they disagreed with ever wanted to post on Twitter as out-and-proudly saying the opposite ie giving the gender critical point of view?

Handmaidens know that they would get an absolute world of shit, and threats, and abuse, right? How do the handmaidens really feel about that, if they stop and think about that?

Do they really truly, though, deep down, support a movement that for it’s own greater political advantage hurries kids and young people away from talking therapies into taking permanently-altering medicine, hormones and health and rushing them down the track to surgery (whether that’s genital cosmetic surgery or invasive egg collection and expensive annual storage fees, or double mastectomy) ? What about the risks to short term and long term health?

What about the majority of these young people who will desist and are left to deal with the physical and emotional consequences?

I mean.... WTF?!

I feel the same about factphobic men spouting self-serving nonnsense but I can clearly see the advantage for them in this posturing. I just don’t get why women would do it.

The gain in attention, social reward, or gratifying power over other women that they might feel they want is surely such an obviously illusory win, because it’s all on men’s terms? They’re actively propping up a harmful, sexist status quo... while they claim to be feminists who don’t like sexism?

pancaketosser · 20/03/2019 06:46

"The ONLY version of feminism that feels dogmatic and unnatural is how strictly transphobes police what women are supposed to be."

It's always nice when it's so obvious that someone doesn't have a fucking clue about what they're talking about.

LizzieSiddal · 20/03/2019 06:34

*on R4

LizzieSiddal · 20/03/2019 06:33

How come she’s employed by the BBC yet allowed to shout at people and tell them to fuck off on Twitter.

As an aside to nothing in particular I always switch her programme off in R4. I cannot stand her simpering voice.

hipsterfun · 20/03/2019 01:42

Frankie Boyle is deeply unpleasant and another virtue- signalling lefty.

We don’t disagree there. Katie Price has my full respect for her dignified response to Boyle.

EcclesThePeacock · 20/03/2019 01:37

I should listen to more John Finnemore. Just had a pleasant few minutes scanning his twitter.

beagadorsrock · 20/03/2019 01:19

She has always struck me as unfunny and, yes, dim (Hannan went to Oxford too, as did Johnson... the list is long)

LassOfFyvie · 20/03/2019 01:17

It’s a challenge to be properly funny when you’ve been socialised to be agreeable

Not buying that for one minute. It is a challenge to be properly funny when you lack any original thought, have no stage presence and nothing funny to say.

One of the funniest comedians around at the moment is John Finnemore. You could not get any one more pleasant than John Finnemore. None of his material uses swearing, sex, politics or punching down. It does involve imagination, wild flights of fancy, clever use of language and convoluted shaggy dog punchlines which are incredibly clever when they get there.

Frankie Boyle is deeply unpleasant and another virtue- signalling lefty. He isn't funny either.

EcclesThePeacock · 20/03/2019 01:14

Or rather, she's a baddie because some blokes might happen to agree with her on something.
Hmm

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 20/03/2019 01:04

Blue Yes, and Germaine is a baddie for agreeing with someone of an otherwise different political persuasion, because we must fall in with our own tribe at all times and when the other side is speaking stick our fingers in our ears and go 'lalalalala, not listening'.

CaptainMarvelBunting · 20/03/2019 01:00

I need me some Ani Difranco at this point, for some skilful, interesting music. I wonder if she's a TWAW bot now too. I used to love her stompy folksy rock when I was at uni.

Anyway, as you were.

Blueblueyellow · 20/03/2019 00:54

LassOfFyvie
not clicking on the YouTube link, don't want to add to their video views but thanks for the discription of their singing style Grin
Someone please tell them to spend a few seconds on Wikipedia. Talks about patriarchal structure (bad) and then goes on to mention Germaine Greer.(also bad... ) Oh the fucking irony.

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 20/03/2019 00:53

Lass Grin sad but true. Also couldn't get through the song you posted. Completely bland musically before we even get onto the lyrics. Good art doesn't dictate. The great protest songs had poetry and passion, they convince you of their message by making you feel without telling you what to think.

Josie Long has been spectacularly not funny for her entire career. I've just watched a few clips on YouTube to remind myself how not funny she is.

She is so not funny she could be an undercover agent for a men's rights group to provide irrefutable proof that women (certainly this woman) aren't funny.

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 20/03/2019 00:30

TWAW isn't a problem for her personally, as a middle class, priveledged white woman who isn't likely to end up in a refuge or prison.
I think the world is quite simple for women like them, caring about the underprivileged is more about the tradition of middle-class moral competitiveness between peers, rather than having anything at stake or any genuine intellectual engagement with the issues involved. When the shit gets real and there is more than one underprivileged group with conflicting rights, they can't handle the harsh reality of it all. I actually think their heart is in the right place, they just want everyone to get along, but as they lack the courage in themselves to face uncomfortable truths, instead they go along with the easiest option - selling women out, because we're always at the bottom of the pile, it's expected we move over and sacrifice our needs for others, and it's least likely to tar their reputation because no-one gives a shit.

I am literally a cisgender woman.

More power to your elbow love, but do your best not to get underfoot of women who eschew the patriarchal boot on our necks and are working to help other women and girls.

Dexra · 19/03/2019 23:50

Euch. My partner put her Netflix standup show on recently and I was grinding my teeth after about five minutes and had to switch off. Doesn't surprise me at all that she's so vapidly, self-righteously "woke" on this issue too. I find it hard to believe she's several years older than me. Interesting how she posits herself as so compassionate whilst not giving two fucks about the vulnerable women attacked in prison by Karen White, because TWAW isn't a problem for her personally, as a middle class, priveledged white woman who isn't likely to end up in a refuge or prison.

LassOfFyvie · 19/03/2019 23:44

I loathe , loathe, loathe this lefty, ranty, virtue signalling, oh so laboured singing in a working-class accent , minimal to non-
existent actual musical ability type of performer. Even in the dim and distant past when I was sort of on the left this talent-
free clap trap set my teeth on edge.

Anyway you gender critical feminists might be interested in the lyrics to this. Don't build your hopes up at the first 4 lines tho- wait to the Terf War bit.

And her rhyming "fuckya" with "patriarchical structure" makes me want to slap her. I bet she's so pleased with it.

Well it’s a jungle out there
The year 2018, I didn’t think
We’d still be sorting babies into blue and pink
And all our progress
Well I wonder what it means
That the only girls clothes that work for me
Turn out to be boyfriend jeans

Well that’s fine
Cause I decline
A narrow set of rules that just don’t work
Cause these red lines
They’re not mine
And if you need me you can find me ironing my shirt

Cause I’m in black tie tonight
Get a postcard to my
Year 11 self in her year 11 hell
Saying everything’s gonna be alright
No you won’t grow out of it you will find the clothes that fit

And the images that fucked ya
Were a patriarchal structure
And you never will surrender
To a narrow view of gender
And I swear there’ll come a day
When you won’t worry what they say
On the labels, on the doors
You will figure out what’s yours

And it’s a bloody nightmare
Tryna fight the spread of bigotry and fear
That’s uniting Piers Morgan and Germaine Greer
And all our progress
Yeah I wonder who it’s for
When I dared to utter that trans lives matter
Yeah and all I got was a TERF war.

Well that’s fine
Cause I decline
Your narrow set of rules they just don’t work
These red lines
They’re not mine
And if you need me you can find me ironing my shirt

Cause I’m in black tie tonight
Get a postcard to my
Year 11 self in her year 11 hell
Saying everything’s gonna be alright
No you won’t grow out of it you will find the clothes that fit

And the images that fucked ya
Were a patriarchal structure
And you never will surrender
To a narrow view of gender
And I swear there’ll come a day
When you won’t worry what they say
On the labels, on the doors
You will figure out what’s yours

You will figure out what’s yours
And that it’s got
Nothing to do with fitting neatly in a box
That was constructed to make it seem
Like people come in just two teams
And anything that’s in between ain’t good enough
And you will love
And you’ll be loved

Well you’re in black tie tonight
Get a postcard to my
Year 11 self in her year 11 hell
Darling everything’s gonna be alright
No you won’t grow out of it
You will find the clothes that fit

And the images that fucked ya
Were a patriarchal structure
No you never will surrender
To a narrow view of gender

And there’s folks you’ve yet to meet
But you’re exactly up their street
And they’ve been waiting just as long
To hear someone sing this song
And better days are on their way
When it won’t matter what they say
On the labels, on the doors
You will figure out what’s yours

And girl you’re gonna be so happy
And girl you’re gonna be just fine
And girl you’re gonna be so happy
Down the line
Down the line
