I hate the term. I hate to see women blithely reduce themselves to being a subset of women.

But I know I've read more reasons as to why it is not an ok term to use. So can you share your one liners or even two liners (they need to be simple enough that I can remember and re-use them).

Thanks!

I'd love to hear you perform it, rap battle style Smile

hoodathunkit · 25/03/2019 20:02

Thank you Poster and Ereshkigal Blush

Here's another one, I might add another verse at a later date

Cis sounds like a cyst on a breast or an ovary
Gotta have it excised before it takes over me
Cis sounds like a cistern like you find in a toilet
Prefix me with a WC? Take my femininity and then spoil it?
Cis sounds like the System, the historic oppression

  • of women, you don’t get it just by putting a dress on
Ereshkigal · 25/03/2019 19:41

Love it! Wine

hooda

So cool 👍🏻👍🏻

hoodathunkit · 25/03/2019 17:11

reported my own post above due to silly typo

poem should read thus

I wish that you’re desist from this ridiculous insidious insistence of misnaming me cis
I’m insane in the membrane, born in flames
and I’m sick of your games to rename and reframe
My female self, my slow growing rose will rise and oppose all that you throw at me
Cos I got sick rhymes and I’m a slay you with poetry

Make no mistake when I say that I’m a slay you, I ain’t threatening that some day I’ll repay you
With the kicks and the punches, harassment and doxxing
you impose upon us, my superpower is outfoxing
My pen is my weapon, words my artillery, I’ve survived more icy peaks than my man Sir Edmund Hillary

We have woman, and women.
Could we not have womyn....
To denote a change .

DrWhy · 19/03/2019 23:13

Because I am a woman, the original unaltered type. I don’t have a problem with people referring to themselves as other types of ‘woman’ should they wish to do so and they can stick whatever prefix on for themselves that they like (although it does raise all sorts of issues about single sex spaces and sports for example) but I do not wish to be labelled by them as anything other than what I am - a woman.

Dothehappydance · 19/03/2019 23:00

This has been very informative, and useful. It is very maddening though that a made up term has managed to worm its way into every day language and now we are having to defend why we find it objectionable. I don't know if people genuinely don't see that it is offensive or do and are not really bothered.

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/03/2019 20:15

Because I am not an isomer, or a genetic control element. I am a woman.

3timeslucky · 19/03/2019 14:10

Not quite a one liner, sorry OP. Glad it touched some of you.

Delighted you went for a multi-line response! Thanks.

I get to decide what I am called, not some other group of people, that is why it is objectionable. Any argument past that is boundary crossing.

brizzlemint · 18/03/2019 04:58

Woman is a complete word.

BasiliskStare · 18/03/2019 03:52

waste of a syllable

AnyOldPrion · 17/03/2019 23:03

Don’t call me Cis, Cis women are sycophantic phallocentrists.

Finely worded disdain! I love it!

And I love the second quote in Lamaha’s post as well. Succinctly put.

Lamaha · 17/03/2019 10:26

Poster that was brilliant, thank you! Flowers

On a lighter note, this made me chuckle: I have been telling people for years that I'm transfat but nobody's having it. That's how I identify anyway.

And this is also brilliant, in a different way:
I'm trying to think if there's any other adjective applied to people without their consent which simultaneously is supposed to denote privilege yet clearly implies their utter inferiority.

hoodathunkit · 17/03/2019 08:16

I checked this thread today and cried (in a good way) at all the very kind and validating comments about my post

Have some flowers Flowers

I feel a strange kind of embarrassed feeling also, but I think I can live with it

:)

Also a wonderful poem by PosterPostingPosterishly
I may post some of my own poetry at some point

So many astute and thought provoking posts here

I especially like this from eccles
I'm trying to think if there's any other adjective applied to people without their consent which simultaneously is supposed to denote privilege yet clearly implies their utter inferiority.

Great thread, thanks to all the women who contributed

cis - made up term by folk who fight for the right to define their designation and fight for the right to define your designation too.

quixote9 · 17/03/2019 02:17

Some good ones here. Not so snappy, but also true:

Women get to define themselves, like every other group. They haven't called themselves "cis."

NellieEllie · 17/03/2019 00:01

I’m not a “type of woman”. I AM a woman. End of.

PosterPostingPosterishly · 16/03/2019 20:51

You ladies are making me blush.
Not actually sure where it came from....deep down inside my womanhood I guess!

I hoped it had made sense.

Not quite a one liner, sorry OP. Glad it touched some of you.

ISaySteadyOn · 16/03/2019 20:48

Poster, that poem is wonderful and powerful.

Surely trans is the backwards of cis?

Well done Poster. Xxx
